Frank Neubelt, an award-winning yacht designer and naval architect, has made significant contributions to the superyacht industry for over three decades. 35 years ago, he initiated &nbsp;his career under his studio label <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/27" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Newcruise (Company)">Newcruise Yacht Design and Project</a> and later went on to establish <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/5552" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="German Yacht Couture by Frank Neubelt Yacht Design (Company)">Frank Neubelt Yacht Design</a> (<a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/5552" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="German Yacht Couture by Frank Neubelt Yacht Design (Company)">FNYD</a>) in 2013, along with the international project development and technical design hub <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/5552" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="German Yacht Couture by Frank Neubelt Yacht Design (Company)">German Yacht Couture</a> (<a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/5552" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="German Yacht Couture by Frank Neubelt Yacht Design (Company)">GYC)</a>. Frank's work spans a diverse array of international projects and clients, including both sailing and motor yachts. His collaborations extend across Northern and Southern European yards, and various other yards in the US and Asia.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/317513/image/large-52fe63c9c6a6b9d0d694af9092d0de30.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/317513"><a href="https://www.superyachttimes.com/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="">SuperYacht Times</a> writer Enrico Chhibber had a lengthy discussion with Frank, delving into his life story, the evolution of superyacht design, and the industry’s changes over his career, as well as his current and upcoming projects.Frank has been immersed in the maritime lifestyle since he was eight years old, growing up in a family with a strong sailing tradition. Describing sailing as a ‘family thing’, Frank recounted, “Every weekend, we would take to the water in dinghies and other boats. By the age of 13, I was allowed to sail on our yacht, which I still own today”. The sailing yacht is a 44-feet <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/122" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Royal Huisman (Company)">Royal Huisman</a> yacht named Baleia, designed by Alan Gurney, is one of the very first aluminium-built <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/122" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Royal Huisman (Company)">Huismans</a> with a wooden superstructure.&nbsp;From a young age, Frank and his family sailed around the world onboard the Baleia, exploring diverse locales from Scandinavia and Britain to the Mediterranean and his dream city, New York. He still owns the sailing yacht today and spends several months each year cruising in the Med, describing his voyages as a ‘think-tank’ for his design developments. Frank’s lifelong passion for yachting inspired him to study boat building in Flensburg, Germany, where his IOR 1-ton racing activities deepened his interest in yacht design and construction. He fondly recalls; “The world of yachting was a kind of heaven, so I studied naval architecture with the hope of becoming a yacht designer one day.”<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/229573/image/large-c8ce78e521caac8d2bcef6f139e3997a.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/229573">Recounting his first foray into the industry in 1987, Frank shared how his path crossed with Niels Jeppesen, the designer and founder of &nbsp;<a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/6087" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="X-Yachts (Company)">X-Yachts</a>, while he was still a student. "I asked him if I could do an internship at his yard," Frank explained. At that time, <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/6087" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="X-Yachts (Company)">X-Yachts</a> was gaining recognition, particularly among younger sailing enthusiasts. Initially just an internship, the stint extended as he was asked to stay for another year. Although he had hoped to continue working as a technical co-designer at <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/6087" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="X-Yachts (Company)">X-Yachts</a>, ultimately, Niels decided to let him go.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/317514/image/large-d566da1e43cf805069dae68c915d6146.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/317514">What seemed like a little disappointment at the time actually became the catalyst Neubelt needed to strike out on his own as a designer. Frank recounted Niels's advice: "you are truly passionate, why don't you open your own studio?" Reflecting on his uncertainties, he admitted, "okay, but nobody knows me. At that time, I was recognised only in the racing scene and among yacht clubs in Germany." Despite these concerns, Niels encouraged, saying, "Why don't you try?”In 1989, Frank Neubelt, along with two fellow students and friends, established <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/27" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Newcruise (Company)">Newcruise Yacht Design and Project</a>. Frank took on the responsibilities of yacht design, while his colleagues focused on engineering and development. "About 35 years ago, we began a collaboration with a Swedish shipyard, designing 40-foot and 50-foot yachts for them," Frank recounted.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/302908/image/large-1fe043c7be7600da7fdba3912247228a.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/302908">Initially focusing on sailing yachts, in 1995 <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/27" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Newcruise (Company)">Newcruise</a> expanded to include motor yacht projects following client requests. Describing the transition, Frank highlighted his initial reluctance, stating: "At that time, I was not very keen on the idea, as the cultures of sailing and motor yachting were quite distinct, each attracting different types of enthusiasts."The expansion into motor yachts proved successful, as Frank explained:”'I designed a 60-foot motor yacht that was built by <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/130" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Moonen Yachts (Company)">Moonen</a> for a German client, along with two additional 60-foot sailing yachts in the 1990s, constructed in Hong Kong. The success of the <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/130" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Moonen Yachts (Company)">Moonen</a> yacht garnered the interest of another German owner, who approached us with a request to create something special, potentially up to 40 metres”. The result was the 34-metre <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/1106" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Xanadu 34.0m (111'7&quot;)Moonen Yachts1997">Xanadu</a>.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/251871/image/large-68fb01098c6145efb44c917d2d96ec44.jpeg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/251871">Frank has collaborated with shipyards worldwide, including Russia and Poland, where he designed the 39-metre award-winning <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/835" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Hotchya Shipyard (Company)">Hotchya</a> motor yacht <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/1212" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Gaja39.0m (127'11&quot;)Hotchya Shipyard2006">Gaja</a>, followed by the Gdansk built 26-metre sailing yacht Opium. His work led him to collaborate with shipyards in the USA, Turkey, China, and Italy. Describing his experiences as adventurous, he noted, "I was never afraid to collaborate with unknown builders because I strongly believe that assembling the right group of professionals allows you to build wonderful yachts of quality and excellence. It all comes down to knowledge, enthusiasm, and creativity, coupled with mutual respect. With these elements, you can create the perfect yacht for any owner, provided they are trusting on the analysis to cover their new-build projects seriously."<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/56176/image/large-6ce3d14946cf2deab3c70815a7c192af.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/56176">As the conversation progressed, Frank highlighted the evolution of his projects, noting a significant increase in size from 2000 to the early 2010s. “During that decade, I brought in a young co-partner and we transformed our operations into a fully-fledged project and design house,” he explained. “At the same time, I co-founded the German Yacht Industry pool, Deutsche Yachten, and facilitated a client's order at <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/5" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Nobiskrug (Company)">Nobiskrug</a>, which helped establish their transition to a superyacht builder.” Frank designed and his team oversaw the construction of several award-winning yachts, including the 68-metre <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/2" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Triple Seven68.0m (223'1&quot;)Nobiskrug2006">Triple Seven</a>, the 73.5-metre yachts <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/15" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Siren73.5m (241'2&quot;)Nobiskrug2008">Siren</a> and <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/1712" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Lady Vera73.5m (241'2&quot;)Nobiskrug2011">Lady Vera</a> (ex Sapphire). He added, “Moreover, my hull designs and naval architecture formed the technical foundation for superyachts like 73.51-metre <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/1713" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Mogambo73.51m (241'2&quot;)Nobiskrug2012">Mogambo</a>, 73.55-metre <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/1714" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Dytan73.55m (241'4&quot;)Nobiskrug2012">Dytan</a>, and the 73.8-metre <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/2824" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Odessa II73.8m (242'2&quot;)Nobiskrug2013">Odessa</a>.” His largest project to date is the 115-metre <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/1075" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Lloyd Werft (Company)">Lloyd Werft</a> explorer superyacht <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/1752" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Luna115.0m (377'4&quot;)Lloyd Werft2010">Luna</a>, delivered in 2010.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/94275/image/large-d20626c7591959d8947fc520d6de10c5.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/94275">As a result of the 2008 global financial crisis, work at the studio began to dwindle, leading to internal debates about the need for restructuring. During this challenging time, Frank felt compelled to leave his life's work and the <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/27" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Newcruise (Company)">Newcruise</a> label. He described the decision as “extremely painful”. Seeking solace and reflection, he spent one and a half years sailing on his boat. Unfortunately, after his departure, <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/27" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Newcruise (Company)">Newcruise</a>'s reputation suffered, and the studio ceased operations two years later.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/37510/image/large-1e6cbfcee8de7751942a02ae2f9be75e.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/37510">Frank Neubelt founded <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/5552" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="German Yacht Couture by Frank Neubelt Yacht Design (Company)">Frank Neubelt Yacht Design</a> in 2013, a boutique studio located in Hamburg, with its co-branch in Palma by the <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/7199" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Real Club Nautico de Palma (Company)">Real Club Nautico</a>. This initial venture evolved into the establishment of <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/5552" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="German Yacht Couture by Frank Neubelt Yacht Design (Company)">German Yacht Couture</a> (<a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/5552" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="German Yacht Couture by Frank Neubelt Yacht Design (Company)">GYC</a>). Neubelt views <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/5552" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="German Yacht Couture by Frank Neubelt Yacht Design (Company)">GYC</a> not just as a project agency but as a collective design hub. He explained, "<a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/5552" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="German Yacht Couture by Frank Neubelt Yacht Design (Company)">GYC</a> serves as a collaborative space where carefully selected &nbsp;affiliated cooperatives with long years in the industry come together to create a dynamic environment that aids clients in preparing and realising the construction of their bespoke superyacht."<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/309919/image/large-fe75f61e8880b36fd5b49549e5954e4f.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/309919">Frank remains actively involved in both ventures, ensuring a seamless integration of design innovation, naval architecture, project development and its &nbsp;management, exterior styling, Interiors &nbsp;and client engagement. Stating: “My personal philosophy is that any owner ought to &nbsp;enjoy the journey of creating their personalised yacht from the first sketch to the launch. That's the goal, which is challenging my passion in this wonderful job every time again. ” &nbsp; &nbsp;Reflecting on his most influential project, Frank affirmed, "Each one propelled us forward." He explained that every project provided a new key, unlocking further inspiration and opportunities for innovation. "It's a continuous learning process that enhances our expertise and enriches our design capabilities, whether for sailing or motor yachts."<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/272819/image/large-e618a3b835757ed5918ce7f599729404.jpeg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/272819">A particularly sophisticated project for Frank was the 73.5-metre <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/15" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Siren73.5m (241'2&quot;)Nobiskrug2008">Siren</a>. During her construction, he pioneered an innovative building system that has since been widely adopted. This technique involved constructing both the hull and superstructure entirely in steel, with the superstructure formed from rough steel boxes. Composite materials were used for cosmetic styling. Advances in 3D CAD/CAM and CNC-milled section production around 2005 significantly enhanced this process, enabling seamless module construction across the entire production line. This approach allowed the yard to utilise the same hull across different designs while customising the styling on top, thereby saving both money and construction time. Reflecting on this, Frank stated, “<a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/15" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Siren73.5m (241'2&quot;)Nobiskrug2008">Siren</a> exemplified innovation in both her design and production methods, marking a significant milestone in yacht building”.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/317517/image/large-845efcea4fcfeb476b6d78f0350f21c1.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/317517">When asked about the transition from designing sailing yachts to motor yachts and the associated challenges, Frank explained, "The first challenge was rethinking the design to accommodate how people live on these vessels, their usage, and their values. Motor yacht design focuses on creating a functional vessel that enhances the experience of being on the water. This includes ensuring that all luxury amenities one would expect in a well-appointed villa are onboard, such as optimal illumination, superior and quiet air conditioning systems, and interiors that are both functional and aesthetically pleasing, whether modern, traditional, or any style in between."<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/317515/image/large-c9430dcfd5e4fb2a97df786e68aff3ad.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/317515">He further noted, "When promoting motor yachts, clients expect the design to exude relaxation and splendour, as well as a bespoke individual elegant aesthetic. They view these yachts as high-performance vehicles on the water, requiring excellent stability and smooth handling to prevent seasickness. Additionally, for any type of yacht over 40-45 metres, designing discrete crew quarters is crucial to ensure that staff can operate without disturbing guests."<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/317516/image/large-83336212539ffe19b8b97124cf417527.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/317516">Frank Neubelt's studio and the <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/5552" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="German Yacht Couture by Frank Neubelt Yacht Design (Company)">GYC agency</a> are influencing the yacht design scene with innovative projects. Among these is the 42.7-metre aluminium-carbon performance sailing flybridge cruiser, the C-140, which is being constructed at <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/2229" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Conrad Yachts (Company)">Conrad Yachts</a> and is set for delivery in 2026. Created and tailored for newcomers to sailing, this yacht offers a design that emphasises speed and safety, making it ideal for world cruising. It features a saloon deck akin to those on 24-30-metre motor yachts, merging comfort with the practicalities of performance superyacht sailing.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/247382/image/large-d7ec6fd647156672b1638491a81be0f4.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/247382">In addition, Frank has developed a unique 71.6-metre hybrid world cruiser concept named Screen, potentially in collaboration with <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/2013" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Ares Yachts (Company)">Ares Yachts</a> in Antalya. Moreover, <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/5552" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="German Yacht Couture by Frank Neubelt Yacht Design (Company)">GYC</a> is set to unveil another 95-metre explorer concept. Frank is currently seeking a high-quality shipyard to realise this vision of a world cruising explorer superyacht. Enrico Chhibber sat down with the titan of superyacht design, Frank Neubelt, to discuss his life and passion for sailing.

German shipyard Nobiskrug has just announced the signing of a new 77-metre project. Nobiskrug collaborated with Winch Design for her exterior design and Sinot Exclusive Yacht Design for her interior.&nbsp;<img src="/uploads/store/photo/31293/image/large-f227b19b6d5dac4545361e1954d1c832.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/31293">Imperial acted as the broker in the sale of the new project and will continue as owner’s representative and construction supervisor throughout the build. Commenting on the new project, Julia Stewart, Director of Imperial, says: “This new superyacht is an exciting project we are impatient to start. It will be the second over 70-metre length superyacht we will build together with Nobiskrug after the magnificent Project 783 delivered in 2012, and this project is calling many others to be developed. We are delighted to initiate new strong and successful collaborations with Andrew Winch and Sinot Design, making this new 77-metre Nobiskrug superyacht an outstanding vessel at her delivery and most certainly a class of her own.”“With the two remarkable teams of designers and an experienced superyacht management company, we are truly excited to realise this bespoke project,” added Holger Kahl, Managing Director of Nobiskrug.Completion of the project is scheduled for Spring 2021, and the yard has stated she will be built under the new Tier 3 regulations and the Red Ensign Group Yacht Code Part A.&nbsp;

Having been listed for sale for the first time in July this year since her delivery in 2012 by central agents Imperial, the 73.5-metre motor yacht Project 783 has today been announced sold. Seen here anchored off the island of Capri together is the 73.5-metre motor yacht Flying Fox and her support vessel 6711. Built by Nobiskrug in 2011 as Project 783, the Reymond Langton-designed yacht was launched as Grafitti with an all-white exterior and was shortly after renamed and painted in her distinctive ocean grey hull tone. The 67-metre Yacht Support Vessel that follows her every move is painted in a matching exterior finish and provides air, tender and crew support to her mother ship.

Here we talk to CEO, Evgeniy Kochman, and Director, Julia Stewart, in a rare candid interview about the philosophy of the Imperial Yachts brand, their insights into the state of the superyacht market, and why Imperial are confident that the future of superyachts lies in the 200+ metre segment.Imperial Yachts is a family owned business. Tell us more about how the responsibilities are split between you.Evgeniy: Being family-owned is an important element of Imperial, actually. For our clients, it gives another element of trust to what we’re doing. With a family business, you’re putting your name on the line, and responsibilities are all yours, together. I’m CEO, and Julia is the Director and is responsible for the legal part of the company. Julia is the tough one.Julia: I think the most successful family business is a business where all responsibilities are ultimately divided between everyone. It’s a more productive business model. So I deal mostly with the running of the Monaco office which is the heart of our operation. We deal a lot with the legal structures, the contracts, the issues of the VAT, the import, the exports, and the relationships with the banks, which are hugely important. We also deal with recruitment and other new trends.<img src="/uploads/store/photo/49201/image/large-dea89e31689441d1f686019576c03709.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/49201">Tell us the Imperial Yachts story.Evgeniy: We started in 2001 in Russia with much smaller boats. From the start, we experienced quite a lot of success, because when we opened our doors there was a growing market in the country. We opened up with the Regal yachts from Azimut. In just a couple of years’ time, we were selling up to 30 boats per year. It was really booming and we were in a unique position.I then decided we needed to develop our business of yacht distribution in Russia, so we looked at Princess. In Russia, something produced or manufactured in the UK holds more weight that Britain's neighbouring countries. We started distributing Princess’ yachts, and we quickly became one of the biggest distributors in the Princess family. In the best years we were selling up to 40 quite big boats.In 2005 we had grown so much that we had to develop our business to meet our clients’ needs. We decided to offer a full management service, and that’s how Imperial was born. We’re different from other companies in this way, as we’re actually more of a management company, with brokerage as part of the service we offer.Imperial Yachts is quite mysterious to the average industry professional. Do you like to keep it that way?Evgeniy: Yes, well, this is the first interview we’ve ever taken actually. I don’t really like interviews…Julia: And, of course, discretion is key in the business. But people know that we have a wonderful reputation and that we’re one of the best brands on the market, the mystery is the who, how, what and why behind that.If we look at Imperial’s track record, there are a lot of new build projects and brokerage sales were you represented the CA. Is new build something your clients are typically very interested in?Evgeniy: Yes - we grow with our clients like parents with babies. They do tend to like new build projects and that is reflective of one of our strongest qualities, the fact that we have a lot of knowledge regarding construction and that we competently manage these boats once they’ve been delivered. In the past 12 years, only two clients have left us for another well-respected company. They returned to us after a short while - they know the difference in service is insane!<img src="/uploads/store/photo/31707/image/large-8afc30a394575a82b958f6d8321b04b2.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/31707">You have sold a lot of Amels projects. Is the Amels model of building on speculation particularly interesting to you because of these demanding requirements from you clients?Evgeniy: Damen and Amels both have a great business model in which they build very good, very high-quality yachts. We’ve focused on Amels because we’ve visited the yard and in terms of price, quality and delivery times, they’re one of the best shipyards out there. We have excellent relationships with all Dutch and German shipyards.Superyachts are getting bigger and bigger each year, and there has been a substantial amount of talk regarding the development of 200+ metre projects. What’s your view on this size range becoming a reality?Evgeniy: We’ve seen that our clients are definitely growing, and yes, the market in general is growing. If somebody told you 10 years ago that you would see the amount of vessels that there are on the market today, they wouldn’t have believed you, but these deals are happening. The middle-sized yacht has jumped from 60 to 90-metres. In 10 years or so there will be a lot of deals happening in the 200+ metre market.Do you think that is realistic?Evgeniy: Yes, I will make it happen. That is our target - we’ll make sure we invite you to the first launch of the 200-metre Imperial yacht! But seriously, we are finding more and more clients who are seriously interested in going to this size, so yes I do think it’s realistic. We have a target to make this a reality within the next 10 to 15 years. We need to move the world towards another direction.Lürssen is the obvious choice, but are there other shipyards where you would consider undertaking such a project?Evgeniy: In regards to infrastructure and the ability to manage a project of that size, I think that, at the moment, Lürssen is the only yard truly capable of executing such a project. We’ve worked with them since 2009. Peter Lürssen has this incredible energy and could definitely manage yachts of these sizes. Of course, many yards in Italy could also say that they could do it, but I don’t think I would advise a client to go anywhere but Germany for this scale of a project.<img src="/uploads/store/photo/63029/image/large-c467dcb8bb952dcf2204fe6ea0e2822d.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/63029">Is the 100+ metre market difficult?Evgeniy: I don’t think it’s a difficult market. These days it’s a good investment, and the very wealthy people who purchase these boats do not want to wait. If it’s the right project with the right shipyard and the right design and specifications, you will be successful. Look at the recent sale of the Fincantieri boat, which after four years of usage was sold relatively quickly. The owner did not want to wait for five years to enjoy his new boat.Do you think some shipyards should build 100+ metre projects on speculation?Evgeniy: I do not think that many of these shipyards have the financial resources to really put that into action. So no, I would not recommend it. I would tell them to use Imperial Yachts!With your extensive knowledge of yacht construction, would you ever consider starting your own shipyard?Evgeniy: I can tell you, more or less every client of mine has said to me, ‘Evgeniy, let’s run a shipyard. You are doing so well, let’s do it.’ Running a shipyard is a very difficult business with a huge financial risk which is determined by the state of the economy, which will go down again eventually. It’s obviously nice to buy yards when the economy is growing, but we see that the worldwide economy is not so good currently.So at the moment, we’re not ready to be a shipyard. We need to concentrate on what we are doing, and there are some areas of improvement - which of course is natural. If anyone ever tells you they are the best, run.<img src="/uploads/store/photo/65180/image/large-d515196d2c65a4d6365cf6fbf8195055.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/65180">Where do you see the superyacht market headed in the next five years?Evgeniy: I think from an exterior design perspective, we’ll see some very interesting projects. Ten years ago everything looked the same, more or less. Now we see some real stand-out exterior design features. It’s very niche when something is so different to the others. Sizes of the projects will also definitely be bigger. There’s a trend we’re seeing at the moment from a certain group of people in larger and larger gross tonnage.Can you shed light on some of the projects that are currently underway at Imperial?Evgeniy: We’ve got a lot of projects in Holland at the moment and we have a few projects in build which will be coming very soon… actually, every year for the next five years. They’re all big projects of 110-metres and upwards.

The team at Monaco Marine La Ciotat are currently busy with a total of 16 superyacht refit projects at their facilities, with another nine vessels scheduled to arrive at the company in the coming months. On saturday 26th of November, the Rendsburg Shipyard Nobiskrug launched the 73.55 metre superyacht Flying Fox, then still called Graffiti. Hull number 783, is designed inside and out by Reymond Langton Design. On saturday 26th of November, the Rendsburg Shipyard Nobiskrug celebrated another launch. In March 2010 we reported the completion of the hull and superstructure of Nobiskrug project 782 and yesterday the Rendsburg, Germany based shipyard launched the superyacht with the name <a href="https://www.nobiskrug.com/fleet/mogambo/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="">Mogambo</a>. The luxury yacht measures 73.55 metres with a beam of 12.5 metres and features interior and exterior design by Reymond Langton Design, a first for Nobiskrug.<img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/136898/image/large-0c85d77031b9e8778c768be395543d64.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/136898">Mogambo offers accommodation for 12 guests in 6 cabins, served by a crew of 19. Nobiskrug launches superyacht Mogambo

On Tuesday 27th April, the Rendsburg Shipyard Nobiskrug celebrated another launch from its yacht newbuilds. Currently five mega yachts are under construction by Nobiskrug. One month after hull number 782, yacht number 783 is to be launched thereby celebrating the completion of the structural work. <img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/131133/image/large-2d2ad3b4781b1a67d50249d7dc16b777.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/131133">Both the interior and exterior design of this mega yacht are from Reymond Langton Design, London / GB. <img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/131134/image/large-3d338e60d538f71f2dc564587f710845.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/131134">Before the launch of newbuild 783, all employees and subcontractors were invited to enjoy a hearty bowl of soup in the shipbuilding hall. The Mayor of Rendsburg, Mr Andreas Breitner, and the yacht owners were among the guests invited to the celebration. The managing directors, project leaders and the yacht owners have all spoken about the excellent project cooperation in their speeches.
