The unique bow and underwater body shape of the Sea Axe yacht help her to reach speeds of up to 25 knots in all conditions.

I can't say which, but we have boats that are going to run in silent mode," Moran shares. Only a few months into the new year, 2019 has already seen a number of important developments within the yachting industry, one of which has been the increasing relevance of environmental sustainability. Utilising hybrid technologies, being conscious of the materials being used onboard and limiting waste products are just a few of the developments that are recurring in the industry.&nbsp;<img src="/uploads/store/photo/22202/image/large-6c8c0841447451ded42c074ab34f365b.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/22202">Environmental mindfulness in the context of new-builds and designs is becoming more of a commonplace, but still, many owners might feel that they lack the time, understanding, or resources to make a meaningful impact. The committee organised a mass cleanup, and the village head Phuu Yai Baan mobilised his resources, resulting in a turnout of about 80 locals, including 30 children. At least 500 bags of plastics and rubbish were carted away in four truckloads to be recycled.&nbsp;<img src="/uploads/store/photo/70165/image/large-8f78e91f04e898a46b02b0ff4ae9b70c.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/70165">Captain Celar sits down with SYT and reveals the reasons behind the initiative and how projects like this could be feasible for yacht owners around the world.What was it that made you start the initiative? Pollution of the oceans and the Earth, in general, is a global problem affecting us all. I believe everyone should do something to help – no matter how big or small. It has been a couple of years that captains of <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/2684" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Ace87.0m (285'5&quot;)Lürssen Yachts2012">Ace</a> (myself and Nick Street) and <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/3660" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Garçon67.15m (220'4&quot;)Damen2012">Garçon</a> (James Laing and Matt Smith) have been working towards more green and efficient ways in terms of operating the yachts, products used for cleaning and maintenance, and reducing the waste, especially plastics.&nbsp;In September 2018 prior to our voyage to Asia for the winter season, we decided to take this initiative further and create the <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/2684" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Ace87.0m (285'5&quot;)Lürssen Yachts2012">Ace</a>&nbsp;<a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/3660" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Garçon67.15m (220'4&quot;)Damen2012">Garçon</a> Environmental Project. A committee was formed with volunteers and crew members of any rank. We set the goals and managed the project, and the entire crew of both yachts were super happy to participate!<img src="/uploads/store/photo/70148/image/large-ab0bc0a590647a8a6c676b4da719d6e8.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/70148">There are a few established environmental projects in action already - why did you choose to create your own and not join another project?There are many environmental projects and organisations out there but we wanted to do this completely independently to set a good example to other yachts. No one in the industry has to sign up to any institution – you can just do it. In saying this, we collaborated with the <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/4337" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Yacht Club de Monaco (Company)">Monaco Yacht Club</a> and presented our work on the 28th March 2019 with the idea to encourage more yacht owners, captains and crew to be proactive in any possible way.<img src="/uploads/store/photo/70150/image/large-32d157720a0c474a27aeb67f31c6a54a.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/70150">How do you propose to generate more budget for these initiatives? We wanted to show that almost no budget is needed to reduce the use of plastic, do a beach or dive site cleanup or further educate the crew or local communities. We discussed this with the owner and asked for only a few hours a month for the crew to spend on a good cause with a very small budget. It is incredible what a group of crew with a couple of tenders and usual onboard equipment can do to make a change.&nbsp;The massive mangrove and beach cleanup we did in Thailand with the local community cost almost nothing. We spent about €1,000 of donated money on educational books, colouring books, pens made out of recycled newspapers and reusable water bottles. Without donations, the project would cost almost nothing.Our current project’s budget is about the cost of one day of mooring fees for a yacht, and that was to purchase and install the Seabin on the back of <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/3660" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Garçon67.15m (220'4&quot;)Damen2012">Garçon</a>. It is the first portable Seabin that will remove plastics from the sea all over the world. We are receiving a great response with individuals and companies asking us how can they help, or if we could arrange similar projects in other locations around the world. One of the biggest successes with these projects was that we’ve put in touch many people from the same areas wishing to do something and now they are planning similar projects. We have also been invited to the Ocean Talks event in London this June to share our projects, meet like-minded colleagues and scientists and see if we can take this further. &nbsp;<img src="/uploads/store/photo/70149/image/large-8367ecb441023c3e20eced09106613d9.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/70149">What more do you think we can do as an industry to help limit plastic use? There are many ways to limit the use of plastic on board and in general. There are many articles online that can be placed in crew messes to educate the crew. Our major contribution to reducing plastics on board has been in eliminating the purchase of drinks in plastic bottles. We maintain freshwater tanks and use filtration and mineralisation, making the drinking water on board very good quality. All crew use reusable water bottles and with this alone, with a crew of 46, we eliminate the purchase of about 1,500 plastic bottles each month! This also reduces the costs of provisions and garbage disposal, which is becoming a big annual expense.<img src="/uploads/store/photo/70155/image/large-d13785c80b2f664a6cc1029135ac9788.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/70155">Does having economical capabilities onboard yachts require new skill sets? Not really. Professional yacht crews are more than capable of managing projects like these. Also, amongst the crew, there are always individuals who have various university qualifications that are not being used for the onboard job but that can come in handy - marine biologists (like Daniella from <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/3660" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Garçon67.15m (220'4&quot;)Damen2012">Garçon</a>), photographers, videographers and teachers. Plus there are always a few tree-huggers, vegans and other modern green warriors keen to take the extra step.<img src="/uploads/store/photo/50310/image/large-6257e0285e78ccfa890ea1c1feef3a47.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/50310">Have you seen a difference in attitude from owners who want to do, and to be seen doing more to help?Our owner is very happy for us to do these projects and proud of us doing it but wishes to remain anonymous. I think that there are definitely differences in attitudes of the yacht owners who are willing to help, which is something we should welcome and embrace. There are several yachts I know of that are doing different projects around the world – from helping local communities after natural disasters to beach cleanups to owners allowing their yachts to be used as scientific research vessels. This is an extract of the full interview with Kommer and Rose Damen in the latest issue of the&nbsp;<a href="http://www.superyachtcompany.com/newspaper/the-superyacht-times-subscription" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="">SuperYacht Times newspaper</a>Walking into the Damen headquarters in the tiny Dutch city of Gorinchem to meet Kommer Damen earlier this year was a little nerve-racking. Mr Damen is, after all, an important man. An important man who famously permits just two interviews with the media per year. Founder, former CEO and current Chairman of the Damen Group which, under Kommer’s leadership since 1969, boasts over 34 shipyards worldwide, 10,000 employees and an annual turnover of €2 billion in 2017. Needless to say, our early morning drive from Amsterdam largely consisted of reading and rereading our interview questions, and being acutely aware that this was, indeed, a big deal.&nbsp;<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/46859/image/large-8a18952d82b00a216e258d1e723216e6.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/46859">As my time spent interviewing superyacht owners and business leaders across the world should have taught me by now, however, anxious expectations when meeting with the world’s elite are almost never met. A <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Article/47877" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Owner insight: on board the new 67m superyacht Seasense (2017-11-23 11:45:00 +0100)">New York real estate mogul</a> or a <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Article/47726" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Espen Øino: Norway, REV and how we’re killing our own industry (2017-10-10 10:00:00 +0200)">Monegasque-living superyacht designer</a>, when the subject is boats, the ocean and the beauty of yachting, you’re almost guaranteed a surprisingly easy and wonderfully candid encounter. Kommer is a fantastic example of that: a warm, down-to-earth Dutchman, deeply passionate about the industry which he has built an incredibly successful five-decade career around.&nbsp;Welcomed to Kommer’s office and sat down alongside Kommer’s daughter and an increasingly integral part of the Damen machine, Rose, we start our interview. Earlier that week I had stumbled across a story about Kommer in a Dutch publication. My translation proved to be a little off, but from what I gathered, when Kommer was a teenager he got into a fistfight with an employee at the yard, and his father fired him... In hindsight, perhaps not the best first question to ask a man you’re a little nervous about interviewing - especially when your translation’s ‘a little off’.Thankfully, he grins and says, “Well, it was actually my professor at school, not an employee. I was expelled not fired, so I don’t know where you got that! But yes, I gave him a small push, he fell on the floor and I was sent away from school… My father went to the Headmaster and told him, ‘This boy has ruined everything for himself. But - please let him come back next year.’ He agreed, and my father sent me to work on the shipyard floor for a year.”&nbsp;<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/50697/image/large-2b4dc3be6eb62ec151597167f33079fe.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/50697">&nbsp;The original Damen yard at HarnixveldThe year at the yard that was earned from his unruly teenage-self actually transpired to be one of the most important periods of his life, learning invaluable lessons when it came to motivating the people running the day-to-day of every large operation, and understanding the importance of a team to the functionality of the business. “When you are working a blue-collar job you quickly see what motivates people and what does the opposite. Like when it was cold and windy and we were working on the slipway. The management team didn’t get there till 08:30, but we were there at 07:00. Between 7 and 8:30, nothing happened at that yard. I could also see people getting pay rises who weren’t necessarily the best at the job in the eyes of their colleagues, so that demotivated staff for months. When I started on my own, I was there early in the morning. Walking around, saying nothing, but being part of the team. I also paid everyone the same. This year in the yard was the best learning curve of my life.”&nbsp;Regardless of a valuable knowledge in the management of people from the top to the bottom, when Kommer bought the Damen shipyard in Hardinxveld from his father in 1969, it was certainly not an easy ride. In fact, it was quite the opposite… and entirely the fault of the young, strong-willed Kommer Damen. Kommer had an idea. Like a dog with a bone, he wouldn’t let it go. He firmly believed in making the boat building process more efficient. Faster, less expensive, and most importantly, with a better product at the end. <img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/50698/image/large-fd30ee2a58b6d5906b283f2bc8974a0b.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/50698">The Damen family (L-R); Bear, Anneliese, Rose, Arnout and Kommer Damen&nbsp;Unwilling to shift the business in such a risky direction, the yards that his father and uncle owned together were split up, with his uncle and cousin taking two smaller yards, and Kommer and his father taking a large yard and carpentry business. “I officially joined the company in 1967,” he explains. “My father and uncle started with the idea of serial building, mostly building in modules in order to answer short delivery times. That idea, however, involved a lot of capital - which we didn't have. My father said it was too risky. After the split of the company, my father told me I could have the yard. By that he meant I could buy the yard. I had no money, so I ‘bought’ the yard and owed a lot of money to my father, who continued with the carpentry company.&nbsp;“I wanted to continue with the idea of serial boat building. But thinking of our staff, my father told me, ‘You cannot have all these people victim to your plans,’. So many left to work for my cousin. Now, I was left alone with an old yard, a debt to my father, six people and a good idea. A friend of a friend introduced me to the MD of Pon, the distributor of Caterpillar, and I went on to make a deal that changed the company. As long as I agreed to exclusively use CAT engines, I wouldn't have to pay them until one year following delivery. That was a huge help, and the start of Damen. The idea is still the same today: building standardised boats in a series and selling them out of the series. You have more focus on the development of a boat, you have lower production costs, you gain on labour hours, and you get a much better boat.”&nbsp;It’s amazing, really, that even when Kommer’s father clearly did not fully believe in the serial boat building business model (added to the fact he was proving to be a little bit of a wild card) he was still set on his son taking over at least a part of the family business. Clearly Kommer’s father - as well as his uncle - fully expected their sons to go into the family business. In this case, it paid off in the end (50 years later, Kommer Damen is now the fifth wealthiest man in the Netherlands), but as many failed family business owners can attest to, it could have easily gone differently.&nbsp;Maybe with his own youthful antics in mind, Kommer lead his business in a different way when it came to family. It was certainly not a requirement to enter the Damen Group, nor was it an open option. By the time his children were born, the Damen Group was already a huge animal - and it takes a certain set of skills to become that animal’s master. All on the board since 2008, it was in 2010 that his son Arnout Damen took the role of Chief Commercial Officer after founding Dutch maritime media group, Navingo. Annelies Damen manages the corporate properties portfolio, Bear Damen recently directed the company’s corporate film, and Rose Damen is Commercial Director at Amels. <img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/45817/image/large-9da74d5a9b2a24d9c45a35b23c3971e1.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/45817">Amels Limited Editions 272, Here Comes the SunDid you always envision your children working in the business?KD: No. I always hoped they could work with the company, but I always told them that I do not want you to be the CEO if you can find a better one. I was very glad, however, that all of my children are very capable of being top managers at the company. To be the owner and top manager, I think, is a very lucky combination.&nbsp;RD:&nbsp;There were always hopes that we would enter the business, but yes, there was never any pressure to join. You were always very open about the company, so we all felt quite involved from a young age, anyway. I grew up hearing about business over dinners and holidays and basically all the time. It’s also a bit daunting: I have a father who has done very well. So if I don't do just as well… there’s a lot of pressure in that regard.Rose, when did you decide to enter the Damen Group?RD:&nbsp;In 2008, myself, my brother Arnout and my sister Anneliese joined the board of Damen as non-executive members. I worked for 8 years in finance before I joined. I remember asking myself, ‘what if I wake up in 10 years’ time and think what if?’. I didn’t want that. I rationalised that worst case scenario, I can still move back into finance. It was day two of working in the company that I kind of knew it was going to be a lot longer than that!What made you so sure?RD:&nbsp;As soon as I joined, I realised that working in your family’s business is very rewarding. It’s a real privilege. As a family member and a shareholder, you have a unique capability to connect with employees, clients and subcontractors. That is something I've been passionate about my whole life. It was also a great opportunity because Amels is almost a mini-Damen. I can be involved in everything from engineering to marketing, all the way to after-sales. The Amels yard is about 1.5 hours from headquarters where my father spends a lot of time, so I also have some distance from my family! Of course, we speak a lot anyway, but I report to the CEO who is non-family.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/15560/image/large-02fae8325c57dba5b46d5ad5f086a8c7.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/15560">The Damen Yacht Support Vessel&nbsp;GarçonKD: Even though I am semi-retired, I live very close to the yard. I cannot just sit there and wonder how it’s going. I like to be close to the business. As an active chairman, you have to orient yourself. See clients, other yachts, our products, suppliers… So I’m involved with the strategy of the company, but I try not to interfere in the day-to-day running.&nbsp;RD: You are very good at leaving a lot of freedom to the executive board and the people working on a daily basis in the business.Officially joining the team in 2015, it’s not just the distance that separates Rose from working every day with her immediate family members, but it’s also the sector. With the Amels yard purchased in 1991, today Amels is the only luxury yachting sector of the Damen Group and comprises 15% of the Group’s business. Although the Amels yard had already successfully delivered eight substantial custom superyachts between the years of 1985 and 1991, you would probably expect that upon takeover by the most passionate man in the world about production boat building, that the business would switch to building luxury yachts on spec out of a series.&nbsp;It may then come as a surprise to learn that Amels under Damen continued with custom superyachts for several years before speculative series building was introduced. Why? “We wanted the same idea in Amels as we did at Damen. We, of course, didn’t have enough capital for that and the banks refused to finance that idea, so we continued to build custom yachts which, in my opinion, is not a good business plan,” he states. “We had limited success financially until the Tigre d’Or range.”<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/35081/image/large-3e1e7108273d718123763230d7e53060.JPG" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/35081">The inaugural vessel of the Tigre d'Or range, now named SeahorseThe Tigre d’Or range was indeed a game changer for the Amels brand. Facilitated by a forward-thinking, innovator of an owner - Ian McGlinn - the 50-metre semi-custom range delivered six boats (the first of which was delivered in 1999 and now cruises under the name Seahorse), all designed by iconic designer Terence Disdale, and all built on the same platform. “The series was very successful,” he muses. “But I didn’t need proof that the model worked, I was already convinced. We needed the capital. Following this semi-custom success, we had enough capital ourselves and so we started the Limited Editions.”The Limited Editions range saw the inaugural superyacht, the Limited Editions 171 <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/25" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Deniki52.3m (171'7&quot;)">Deniki</a>, designed by Tim Heywood and delivered in 2007. The following success has exceeded everyone’s expectations, shifting the focus of the previously custom-centred Amels, and reaffirming the advantages of Kommer’s favoured boat building business model for the second time in the company’s history. Last year, however, the Amels brand announced their first collaboration with Espen Oeino: a 78-metre fully custom superyacht set for delivery in 2021. Kommer Damen: how one persistent man transformed an industry

Nakilat Damen Shipyards Qatar (NDSQ) announced the delivery of two 71.5-metre fast diving vessels (FDV) yesterday afternoon. The projects were announced in March 2013 and construction began in 2014, with both support yachts launched in January 2018. (Nakilat) and Damen Shipyards Qatar Holding BV, a wholly owned subsidiary of the Damen Shipyards Group, with 70% and 30% ownership respectively. Nakilat Damen delivers two 71m dive support yachts

Dutch shipyard Damen has gone from strength to strength in the development of their Yacht Support concept. Since the introduction of the concept to the yachting world almost a decade ago, 10 vessels have been successfully delivered to general industry-wide acclaim, and the line has been expanded to include four size ranges from 43.2-metres to 89.40-metres. We caught up with Damen’s Victor Caminada for a closer look at how Damen’s Yacht Support has developed over the years and how they have secured their success.&nbsp;<img src="/uploads/store/photo/21524/image/large-8960709c360b7191438659aeefe8fb58.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/21524"> Talk us through the development of Damen's Yacht Support vessels - the interest, particularly over the last couple of years, has been quite substantial. How has the concept been received over the years and are you still experiencing the same amount of interest and success 9 years following introduction to the industry?We formally introduced the Damen Yacht Support concept at the Monaco Yacht Show in 2009 with the YS 5009, a 50-metre “basic” version. We delivered the first two vessels, Oberon and Umbra in 2010. The concept immediately caught a lot of attention from superyacht owners and captains alike, and we soon after sold the 67-metre version to be named Garçon, which was completed in 2012. This, in turn, sparked the sale of the 6711 (6711 is the name of the vessel and, at the same time, the model), of which we have completed the two vessels; Intrepid and Game Changer. Seen here at sunset recently outside the port of Monaco is the 67-metre Damen Fast Support Vessel Garçon. Built as the Dutch shipyard’s first large support vessel, Garçon led the way for a whole fleet of similar shadow vessels used to provide additional capabilities to an owner’s mothership. Garçon is well known for traveling together with the 87-metre motor yacht Ace, to which she provides tender, crew, provisioning and helicopter support.

Boadicea, Garçon and Ngoni in Beaulieu sur Mer, France

Recently seen anchored together outside Beaulieu sur Mer in the South of France are the three Dutch-built superyachts Boadicea, Garçon, and Ngoni. Nearly two decades separate these vessels, each built with vastly different purposes. Boadicea was launched at Amels in 1999 and has undergone several refits and rebuild stages since then to keep her looking as new. To the right of her is the multifunctional yacht support vessel Garçon which is well known to supply the 87-metre Lürssen motor yacht, Ace with tender, crew, provisioning and air support when needed. In the foreground is Royal Huisman’s brand new 58-metre sailing yacht Ngoni. This high-tech machine is the design work of the late Ed Dubois and was launched in April this year, now cruising the Med for the first time.

Three Dutch superyachts on the French Rivera

Damen launched its new 70-metre yacht support vessel named Game Changer last week. Game Changer follows previous support vessels such as Garcon, 6711, and Intrepid in the shipyard’s 70-metre segment. She becomes the 11th support yacht launched by Damen.

As with Intrepid, Game Changer is fitted with a certified helipad on her aft deck that allows a helicopter to be lowered below deck into the safety of an enclosed hangar. She come complete with onboard refueling capabilities.

Other on-deck features include 250 square metres of outdoor storage space with an additional 110 square metres of indoor storage space, including an onboard dive centre, below deck.

“Our clients want to go to exciting new destinations with less established superyacht infrastructure and they want to have more fun with larger tenders, larger helicopters and submersibles,” comments Damen Product Director Mark Vermeulen. “Game Changer is the massive leap forward in capability that they need, but at a much lower cost than a larger yacht.”

The 86 metre Lürssen superyacht Ace along with her cruising partner and support vessel Garcon, was seen arriving in Bodrum yesterday morning. Dutch offshore specialists Damen have launch their latest and largest vessel in the Yacht Support range, the 69 metre Sea Axe named Intrepid. The vessel is an evolution of the 67 metre range, of which two hulls have been built, Garcon, and 6711. <img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/158967/image/large-cddbf7294dccfbe4289a1fe183e7b4a4.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/158967">  Intrepid is finished in a very minimalistic and functional all-white exterior. One feature that will however set her apart is the innovative heli-deck on the very aft section of the vessel, capable of receiving a Eurocopter AS365 or Agusta Westland AW109. The platform opens to reveal a hangar into which the helicopter virtually disappears into below deck. <img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/158968/image/large-94850c5437c044ebcc4a2f3fbb434efa.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/158968">  Her narrow beam of 11.50 metres along with four MTU 16V4000 M63L 1A engines allow for a top speed up to 20 knots, with an impressive range of 4,500 nm in nearly any sea state whilst maintaining 16 knots. <img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/158969/image/large-3ac05277611663b7b4f8e7d6e67c7ad7.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/158969"> On board she offers accommodation for up to 21 crew and staff members. 250 square metres of deck space is available outside for cargo storage and another 110 square metres of concealed space inside. Hull number two of the 69 metre range is in build, expected to be delivered in 2017.

The design is modular, with an optional hangar to cover the toys from the worst of the elements. Its unique bow and underwater body shape enable the Sea Axe to reach speeds between 18-25 knots in all sea states, making this a fast and dependable support ship - whatever the weather. She is not just a work horse, however. Great care has also been taken with the aesthetic design and high quality finish of the ship. The bridge interior is finished to superyacht standards and the exterior is painted to the same quality as a superyacht. As visitors to the Monaco Yacht Show will see, the Sea Axe looks like it really belongs in the superyacht environment without causing embarrassment or ruining the view! 67 Metre Fast Yacht Support vessel to debut in Monaco

Dutch superyacht builder Amels is defying the economic gloom with the busiest workload the company has ever known, with 12 new construction projects and two major refits underway. In just the next few weeks, for example, two Amels 180 and one Amels 212 will be delivered, in addition to two extensive refits of existing Amels yachts. <img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/138703/image/large-154ef0bd67e506a81be888fc7b9d35e7.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/138703">Despite the global economic challenges of recent times, Amels has recorded a steady growth in annual turnover of approximately 10% over the past four years, outperforming the competition by a considerable margin. Based on orders taken during this period, Amels has now become the largest superyacht builder in the Netherlands. Amels managing director Rob Luijendijk attributes the company’s sustained run of success to the company’s Limited Editions concept. “It bridges the gap between full custom and semi-custom building,” he said. “Owners have come to realise that while the full custom option offers the ultimate in personalisation, there are many unknowns in embarking on a custom project - will the boat be reliable, how will it perform, will the build stay within budget and will it be delivered on time? Limited Editions answers all those concerns and Amels has earned a reputation for delivering yachts of the highest quality on, or even ahead of, schedule.” All exterior designs are by the renowned superyacht designer Tim Heywood, whilst a number of owners opt for a fully customised interior design. The current Limited Editions range offers four models which range from 180 feet to 242 feet (55 to 74 metres), or in gross tonnage terms, from 650 to 1720 Gross Tons. However, in keeping with growing demand for Amels yachts, work is already underway to develop a yacht of just under 3000 Gross Tons. The company’s SEA AXE Fast Yacht Support vessel concept is also proving successful. With its high performance and high quality of finish, the SEA AXE is redefining the image of the support vessel as more than just a second-class work horse. This is a purpose-designed vessel developed and built by Amels’ parent company, Damen Shipyards. This summer the very large and powerful 67-metre version will be delivered, with a possibility of it going on display at the Monaco Yacht Show this September. Two 50-metre yacht-support versions have already been delivered and are in operation, with another 67-metre under construction. Four Amels superyachts to be delivered this spring

Amels has sold the first Sea Axe 6711, a 67-metre Fast Yacht Support vessel. The vessel will be built by Damen Shipyards and is the largest vessel in the Sea Axe range, the Sea Axe 6711 boasts 360 square metres of exterior deck space and 140 square metres of interior deck space, and will comfortably accommodate up to 21 crew and staff. <img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/131902/image/large-3fba9dc3665019348fcb67e80d1fb364.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/131902">Due for delivery in Spring 2012, the Sea Axe 6711 is being customised according to the requirements of the client, the owner of a large luxury superyacht. For example the deck will be fitted with a helipad fully certified to M.C.A. LY2 (large yacht code), capable of supporting a large helicopter with maximum take-off weight of 5000kg.
