The <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/12" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="CRN (Company)">CRN</a> yacht <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/425" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Katharine61.5m (201'9&quot;)CRN2000">Katharine</a>, originally christened as Numptia and later renamed New Sunrise, was built in 2000, with exterior design by <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/135" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Studio Scanu srl (Company)">Studio Scanu</a> and interiors created by <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/67" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Zuretti Interior Design (Company)">Zuretti Interior Design</a>. Named after the owner's wife, the motor yacht underwent a comprehensive refit in 2017, which included a full exterior repaint, new interior furnishings, upgraded electronics, and the installation of satellite TV throughout the yacht. Providing ample natural light through her large windows, <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/425" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Katharine61.5m (201'9&quot;)CRN2000">Katharine</a> offers a warm ambience for her 12 guests, complete with amenities such as a sundeck featuring a spa pool, a relaxation area, sunbeds, and dining facilities. New Sunrise), amongst many more. &nbsp;<a href="https://www.superyachttimes.com" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="">SuperYacht Times</a> sat down with Brown to hear about how it all got started, current projects, &nbsp;market insights, and what the future holds for the industry.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/273750/image/large-b1dd0c57552f602b23893d42c7f7768d.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/273750">How did you first get into brokerage? &nbsp;I graduated from The University of Manchester at 21 and then joined the army, which had always been my dream. After spending a year at Sandhurst, I served for just under five years before moving to London. In London, I worked at Bloomberg for a while, yet I knew I wanted to get into yachting. It was my passion growing up, as a family and as an individual.&nbsp;I was very fortunate because I worked alongside Elizabeth Burgess, who told me about the business her father had built up and introduced me to Jonathen Beckett. Nine months later in 2002, I was working at <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/159" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Burgess (Company)">Burgess</a> London office.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/112137/image/large-96c2018e6bdd50316e4f411052613bc1.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/112137">You’ve been with Burgess for 20 years. Can you talk a little about this journey?&nbsp;I spent a year in London, working under Jonathan and Tim Wiltshire’s wing. It was a great mentorship that gave me really good exposure to the market in a short period of time. I then moved to Florida, which was a real sink-or-swim moment for me. &nbsp;Florida is a tough place to be a broker, especially as the sole Brit! You’ve got to have a certain mentality and strength of character; I enjoyed it and learned a lot.&nbsp;We moved the office from Fort Lauderdale to Miami whilst I was there, which was another interesting challenge. &nbsp;And then I ended up in New York, opening an office there. It was a good place to be – and, with the exception of <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/6" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Camper & Nicholsons International (Company)">Camper &amp; Nicholsons</a>, back then we were the only large brokerage company with an office in Manhattan.&nbsp;Our office on East 63rd Street was bang in the centre of perhaps the wealthiest zip code in America, and there was no better place to be. New York was great but when my kids were toddlers, we felt it was time to move back to the UK. That was in 2012, and &nbsp;I’ve been back here ever since.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/204337/image/large-9b0ac22555202dbe4120eaba7a5d040d.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/204337">What are some of the standout projects you’re currently working on? &nbsp;Currently, I’m involved in three very large projects in Northern Europe and another large project in the Netherlands, which has an innovative alternative propulsion system. Two of these are large expedition vessels and the owners are very interested in sustained periods of usage without any kind of resupply. We also have some very exciting projects beyond these as well.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/201190/image/large-9bb8a6be585f97d32a71e93e2611c782.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/201190">You’ve worked in multiple markets, built and established different offices, and have an impressive fleet of projects. What makes the industry so exciting to be part of? &nbsp;The reason I'm still doing it 20 years on is less to do with the amazing boats or the incredible places I’ve encountered, and more to do with the people. I’ve had incredible moments meeting people who've built billion-dollar businesses from nothing, sharing insight into everything from building businesses to ultimately what makes them happy. And in those moments, you just want to pinch yourself.&nbsp;We often talk about brand names – <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/159" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Burgess (Company)">Burgess</a> included – but true worth comes from the people that you work alongside. The brand is of no value if you don't know the product or have the ability to build a relationship with clients. This is my focus. I consistently build my knowledge base and I get to know my clients really well, creating relationships with them that will hopefully last a lifetime. And I think if you do that, the rest will follow.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/234613/image/large-8f0baa1b2d651b641c110b0a8394c2f0.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/234613">Does the role of the broker ever end?&nbsp;It never stops; it's a consultative relationship that must strengthen and evolve as the years go by. You build a relationship and hold on to it – and that's critical. If I could list the four cornerstones of a successful broker’s character, they would be: integrity, good market knowledge, a long-term approach, and added value.&nbsp;Whether you're helping look for a new captain or advising them where to cruise, or even making a restaurant reservation at the last minute, it’s all pieces of the jigsaw.&nbsp;There are, of course, times of quiet, but it's never silent &nbsp;– and even in those very quiet moments, the relationship must always stay alive. &nbsp;This approach is the same for both new build and used sales, as the fundamental attributes of the broker remain the same. But there is a substantial difference in the knowledge required for a &nbsp;building project, not only selling but managing the build process – this is critical. The expectation that you can just morph into this new construction expert without prior experience and a good knowledge base is nonsense. &nbsp;In addition to the value you add as an individual you need to collaborate with specialists. With so much of this expertise ‘in-house’ at <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/159" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Burgess (Company)">Burgess</a>, we are in a very fortunate position.Have you witnessed any major changes to yacht brokerage over the years? &nbsp;The biggest change I’ve noticed is the mindset of our clients. It’s younger. Not just younger in body but younger and more modern in mind. And feeding into that is a new focus on the digital marketplace and environmental sensibilities. It’s forced us to adapt the way we present ourselves and the product. &nbsp;<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/273752/image/large-f56a25fb70934c875bfcc691d84f0fc8.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/273752">How attractive are more ecological products for your clients and are conversations becoming more serious?&nbsp;It's front and centre of every discussion. Environmentally-conscious solutions are key deliverables with large custom projects at the moment. In an effort to support this, <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/159" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Burgess (Company)">Burgess</a> has also actually just set up an alternative fuel solutions focus group, with team members from across the different departments. Watch this space..!<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/70028/image/large-42b7b0d103885c5439c9eacaa644500d.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/70028">With such long lead times at most yards, is interest in less traditional builders growing? &nbsp;Some buyers have a certain loyalty to a certain brand based on previous experience or advice from friends, but there's enough space in this marketplace for other shipyards. And many commercial yards are realising they can compete on price, especially in the large explorer and support yacht market where often the client profile is perhaps more focused on engineering capability and price than it is on brand.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/273012/image/large-bb33223956d8bd318d5c78cfdefe6e07.jpeg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/273012">Brokers who work at Burgess tend to stay at Burgess. How has it created a culture of longevity?&nbsp;‘Team’ can be a cheaply used word but it’s at the very core of the way we do things at <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/159" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Burgess (Company)">Burgess</a>. &nbsp;We’ve got two primary goals: to see our customers happy and our company successful.&nbsp;We also have a relatively new partnership scheme, whereby all of the partners have a direct influence on the direction of the company and benefit from its success. The vision is led very much from the top by Jonathan, and after being here for 20 years, I’m fiercely proud of it. &nbsp;The rather unique aspect of the <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/159" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Burgess (Company)">Burgess</a> approach is the 360 degrees of service that we offer.&nbsp;I &nbsp;know when to speak up and I know when to shut up, and I know I have a team of people around me who have the answers when I don’t. Beyond that, it’s just a very pleasant place to be. I have friends who work for many of our competitors and will probably tell you their story and it will be just as compelling, but this is mine. Superyacht Katharine in Panarea, Italy

Recently cruising around the Aeolian island of Isole Basiluzzo, off the southwest coast of Italy, was the 61.5 metre CRN superyacht Katharine built by CRN in the year 2000. Launched as Numptia, the yacht was later renamed as New Sunrise and recently changed hands once again after which she was rechristened, Katharine. She features both naval architecture and an exterior design by Studio Scanu, with Zuretti Interior Design undertaking her luxurious interior. The yacht has only ever been used privately and remains in top condition to this day.

Yet another large superyacht has been sold this week with the announcement of the sale of the 45.9 metre Just J’s, built by Delta Marine in 2011. The news follows the sales of the 61.5 metre New Sunrise, the 55 metre Serenity and the 61.3 metre Elandess, all reported on throughout this week.

Just J’s features naval architecture by Roddan Engineering, with Jonathan Quinn Barnett undertaking both her interior and exterior design. She accommodates up to 10 guests on board over five luxurious staterooms. Spacious accommodation is also provided for a crew of up to 12. She is both ABS and MCA certified and is wheelchair navigable, with extra wide doors, spacious walkways and a centrally located elevator providing convenient access to all four decks.

Just J’s was listed for sale by Merle Wood &amp; Associates, with Alex rogers at Westport Yacht Sales representing the buyer in the deal. At the time of sale she was listed at an asking price of $24,000,000.

The 46m superyacht Just J’s sold

Following the sales of the 61.30 metre superyacht New Sunrise and the 55 metre Heesen superyacht Serenity over the past few days, the news of another large superyacht sold has been announced with the 60 metre Abeking &amp; Rasmussen Elandess.

Elandess was listed for sale at the beginning of March by Burgess who had also exhibited her at the Palm Beach International Boat Show, marking a remarkably quick sale. The German built superyacht was delivered in 2009 and her exterior lines are from the drawing board of Donald Starkey with an interior by Bannenberg &amp; Rowell.

With an asking price of €52,500,000, Elandess is the biggest and most expensive superyacht ever sold by Denison Yacht Sales. She was sold with broker Glynn Smith at Denison.

Superyacht Elandess sold within 2 months

Edmiston has recently announced the successful sale of the 61.5 metre superyacht New Sunrise. Built by the CRN shipyard in 2000, she features both naval architecture and exterior design from Studio Scanu, with Zuretti Interior Design undertaking her luxurious interior. She underwent an extensive refit in 2014.

On board she accommodates up to 12 guests over six en suite cabins, comprised of a full beam master suite, a VIP cabin, three double staterooms and a twin cabin.

New Sunrise was jointly listed for sale by Edmiston and Burgess, with Steve Sprigg at Galati Yacht Sales introducing the buyer in the deal. At the time of sale she was listed at an asking price of $24,900,000 and will reportedly remain available for charter with Burgess for the foreseeable future.
