The Croatian shipyard <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/4318" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Brodosplit Inc. (Company)">Brodosplit</a> has announced that it will start building two vessels, which have a combined value exceeding €200,000,000. <img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/216173/image/large-be161a409884dfe53d8f90d6e0a24cf1.jpeg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/216173">It has been confirmed that one of the vessels will be a 110-metre expedition cruise ship capable of navigating arctic climates. Dino Donjerković, <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/4318" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Brodosplit Inc. (Company)">Brodosplit</a>’s sales director, shared the news with a Croatian media outlet earlier this month, adding that she’ll be able to accommodate up to 152 passengers alongside 111 crew members.The second yacht to be built at the yard will be approximately 125-metre sailing yacht for private ownership, and designed to accommodate 12 guests alongside a 50 strong crew. (Company)">Brodosplit</a> is well versed in builds of this size. Not only does it construct vessels for military and commercial use, but numerous cruise ships have also been built at the yard. Only last year it completed the 128-metre Ultramarine, which can accommodate up to 199 guests, &nbsp;two helicopters and heaps of amenities. She comes in with a 162-metre length and an 18.5-metre beam, and has five masts with 36 cross sails. The largest mast is 63-metres high and weighs 24 tonnes. A close-up of the rise in residential 'superyachts' (2021-06-28 15:45:00 +0200)">which doesn’t fit under the remit of being classified as a superyacht</a>, per se – to a design by <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/809" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Tillberg Design of Sweden (Company)">Tillberg Design of Sweden</a>. Narrative, as the residential yacht has been christened, comes in at a whopping 226-metres in length and will host a collection of residential apartments. The Croatian shipyard Brodosplit has announced that it will start building a sailing yacht approximately 125m in length.

The name AES Yachts probably doesn’t ring an immediate bell. With a distinct lack of information pertaining to the company available, well, anywhere, this comes as no surprise, though with an exciting 66 metre new build project scheduled for completion next summer, that could be about to change.<img alt="" src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/162678/image/large-e5ac2424d0f05928d6f2453c0cb2cd94.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/162678" class="legacy">Established just four years ago, the Turkish yacht building and interior outfitting company based in Tuzla is headed by Hasan Sancak, a man boasting a career in the maritime industry that spans the last two decades. Entering the industry on the commercial shipping side, his first professional experience with the luxurious side of maritime was in 2007. Two years later Sancak was ready for a new challenge which materialised in the form of Cizgi Yat.&nbsp;Though Cizgi Yat lead a very short lifetime (opening its doors in 2009, going into liquidation in 2011), the company managed to produce E&amp;E in 2011 to industry-wide acclaim. Measuring 42 metres and featuring exterior design from Vripack, naval architecture from Vripack in collaboration with Endaze, and an interior from Art Line, the hard work poured into her from Sancak and the Cizgi Yat team paid off and was awarded at the following years World Superyacht Awards.<img alt="" src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/162679/image/large-ce7735fe32ad3edd9e34c94d619dfd96.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/162679" class="legacy">The success the yard experienced with E&amp;E, however, wasn’t enough, and following the closing of Cizgi Yat’s doors in 2011 up sprung AES Yachts from the ashes just a few months later in 2012. A turbulent journey, indeed, but perhaps necessary to gather the experience needed to elevate AES to levels its predecessor wasn’t capable of. Either way, Sancak seems to have got it right with his latest venture and welcomed their very first project into their facility towards the end of their inaugural year; the 35 metre Phoenix built by fellow Turkish shipyard, Nedship, in 2003. The list of works undertaken included a major interior equipment overhaul, the installation of two powerful gyroscopic stabilisers, the installation of three custom awning systems which were built in house, and full exterior paint works - to name but some.&nbsp;After an intensive six month period the all new Phoenix left the yard to happy owners and a substantially larger project swiftly followed in her wake. The 51 metre Elena - also built by a neighbouring Turkish shipyard - arrived at the yard towards the end of 2013 for a period of 10 months. Upon completion another, again larger, new build project landed on the yard’s doorstep, the interiors on board the 60 metre Katina at Brodosplit in Croatia, though with difficulties in work permits and an extension of the job by 9 months, it wasn’t as straightforward as predicted. Sacank says, “Our workers could stay in Croatia for just three months at a time. We signed the contract for six months, which would have meant we changed our workers twice… we stayed 15 months - can you imagine how many times we had to change the workers? It was a challenge.”<img alt="" src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/162680/image/large-984ced47accd49a29122d4e2e4de6a93.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/162680" class="legacy">Three substantial refits certainly kept the new yard busy in their preliminary three years of business, but Sancak tells us that it was never the intention to be a refit yard with a penchant for quality interior design. Explaining this, Sancak states, “We work in every aspect of construction. We help others with interiors because we actually know what lies behind the wall and ceiling!” AES was destined to be an all encompassing yard that not only polished up superyachts to the standard they deserve, but also built brand new boats. And that’s exactly what the AES team are busy doing now, with their very first new build vessel currently under construction in their brand new 78 metre shed. “It was our intention to have new build projects,” Sancak continues, “At AES, we need to showcase our products. If our designs always stay renderings then nobody cares about it.”&nbsp;Named Project Days, the 66 metre superyacht is a custom project undertaken by AES in collaboration with CCN Yachting, designed by Hot Lab Yacht &amp; Design with naval architecture by Endaze Marine Engineering, exterior lines by Michele Dragoni and interiors in collaboration with Enrico Lumini. To adhere to the experienced client’s requirements for generous living spaces, she spans across five decks with a beam of 12 metres resulting in an enormous total gross tonnage of 1,800 GT.<img alt="" src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/162681/image/large-1eda9f63c1fbfaa86220cab4de4d7224.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/162681" class="legacy">The new vessel came about after undertaking maintenance work on board the owner’s previous Italian-built boat. Impressed with the quality of AES’ work, his original idea was to - with the assistance of Sancak - find a vessel suitable for a major refit, bring it to Tuzla, and let AES work their magic. This didn’t quite go to plan, however, which actually worked out in the yard’s favour. Sancak explains more: “We found a 50 metre explorer in Greece and we visited with the owner but the price was raised and we backed out. So we decided on a new yacht with a new design. It started at 59 metres, then 62, 63, and? It ended at 66.”&nbsp;Of course every project is important to the shipyard, but Project Days is particularly integral to the growth and development of AES, with the owner already envisioning future vessels with the yard if all goes to plan. “This is a very important project in Turkey,” Sancak confirms. “If the owner is satisfied with the project, he will proceed with another 66 and another 45 metre project.”<img alt="" src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/162682/image/large-fe37aa8dcc849a891b682275094ee062.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/162682" class="legacy">With Project Days and another substantial refit project currently keeping the AES team busy, the 71 metre Victoria, Sancak tells us that right now, their order book is full. “We have Victoria which we are planning to finish in one year, Project Days we will finish in one and a half years, so we are full right now. We are in discussions with another Turkish client for a prospective 70 metre, but we cannot start for another 1.5 years. Our team is limited… there are a lot of interior designers all over Turkey, but our team is really good and we won’t compromise that.” For now at least, AES seems perfectly comfortable with where they are heading.&nbsp;In regards to the Turkish industry, are AES Yachts going to be the one to change the world’s perception of Turkish shipbuilding? Well, they definitely lack the same kind of professionalism and structure as their Northern European counterparts, but the proof is, as always, in the pudding. Insight: Behind the scenes at AES Yachts

Croatia’s largest shipyard, Brodosplit, launched their second pleasure yacht, the 60 metre Katina, in June this year which was then displayed to the public for the first time at the recent Monaco Yacht Show. The custom built four-deck superyacht is constructed with a steel hull and aluminium superstructure and features an extremely voluminous interior due to her square design shapes.<img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/156845/image/large-51e991d31308f9924320e91cdf80392e.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/156845">Turkish designer Ali Getz realised the owner’s vision of an uncluttered exterior image focussing on linear design cues such as her continues wrap around exterior decks and uninterrupted profile lines. The expansive sundeck area is dedicated to outdoor living with numerous sunbathing areas and a raised platform for the Jacuzzi. It is here where Katina’s water toys are also stowed, including her 170HP tender.<img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/156846/image/large-dc8b0e544b4b999b048a1924eb9709ad.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/156846">Inside, guest areas have been optimised to comfortably house large groups of family and friends, ideal for entertaining. Earlier this month, SuperYacht Times met up with Belgian company EXMAR Yachting at the Dubai International Boat Show (DIBS). EXMAR is a large Belgian corporation, and one of the biggest companies in terms of gas shipping and marine infrastructure. The Group itself is comprised of several different divisions such as LNG, LPG, Offshore and Services which include EXMAR Ship Management (who manage all kinds of floating assets); Belgibo (Insurance Brokers); Travel PLUS (the travel agency); and EXMAR Yachting (Yacht chartering, management and brokerage). SuperYacht Times had the opportunity to talk with EXMAR Yachting Charter Manager Jill Zwaans, who introduced the company to us.<img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/153262/image/large-f47642ab4e5a6ba5bb1ae65d461f5975.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/153262">Jill Zwaans joined EXMAR in 2011 specifically to develop the luxury vessel charter department within the EXMAR Ship Management division. Charter successes quickly followed, something which Zwaans attributes to a combination of the existing portfolio of luxury vessels under management and her own extensive network in the industry.Jill comments, “I started promoting the vessels that we had under management as well as other yachts for charter anywhere in the world, as a retail broker. It all started very small with a few luxury vessels, and we saw the numbers grow every year. With my own existing and new connections especially in the Belgian market, I had already a lot of potential clients who were unfamiliar with the concept of ‘chartering a yacht’, although very interested in booking this charter holiday with us for smaller yachts without crew or a more luxurious yacht with crew. By introducing this luxurious way of travelling to our clients and creating a nice relaxing holiday for them with a personal approach, we now have a very good network.”<img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/153263/image/large-3793e298ffccc8a3d272ec36aaa82117.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/153263">In the yachting industry, good connections and understanding the client’s needs, are a guarantee of a memorable experience at the right price. “I know quite a few yachts, their crews, their specialities and their owners. I know which yachts have a good charter reputation and special locations where I can find unforgettable gems for my clients. Our clients come back because they like that level of service.“I mainly focus on retail chartering and travel assistance for any size of yacht, so I select the vessels which are best suited for my clients' specific needs and package an entire experience around the charter itself. I never just look for a luxury vessel for the sake of it. I get really personal with my clients and want to know exactly what they want. We help them with their itinerary too which features as part of our destinations brochure which we created recently. Helping them with the best flight combinations, or private jet itineraries, and assisting them in finding the right luxury hotel accommodation at the destination, as well as VIP ground transportation, is all a part of our service package. I really do make sure that from the beginning to the end they are taken care of exceptionally well. Most importantly, the client only has one contact person for their entire trip and they know that they can contact me at any time. Zwaans is exploring further options, having seeing an increase international clients outside Belgium.This successful formula experienced in the first preliminary years reached a whole new level in 2013, when the charter side of the business stepped out of EXMAR Ship Management, and became a whole new company in itself under the direction of Jill Zwaans, EXMAR Yachting. “We created an entirely new business unit based on brokerage, chartering and management. Not everyone would like to just charter a yacht to explore the Mediterranean or the Caribbean, they want to go farther afield. Business is good, and we’re just trying to see how far we take our personal approach in a very ambitious and adventurous way.”

EXMAR Yachting, a very personal approach

The 60 metre superyacht Katina has been launched today. Built by the Croatian shipyard Brodosplit, she accommodates up to 12 guests in total over 6 luxurious suites. Water toys include; fishing equipment, water skis, SUP paddle boards, a Waverunner and an underwater camera.
