When I was 14, I built my first transistor radio in a cigar box. And then, just a few years later, I built my own radio transmitter from an old radio with recycled lamps. Ever since then, I have felt this passion for radio transmitting equipment, which led to the founding of the company in 1969.What does your company offer the yachting industry?Since 1994, we have been focused on GSM (Global System for Mobile Communications) amplification for indoor coverage of 2G, 3G, 4G and 5G. This has developed into our main product line, offering unique equipment which is unlike any other solution in the world and enables those on board to benefit from reliable and strong coverage. <img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/204263/image/large-4f17518ef0c5c336b7448fab5edc43e2.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/204263">What are the problems faced by crew and owners with signal on board? There are many. Inconsistency in signal strength is one, as it depends on the height of the smartphone above sea level. If the vessel is not too far from the coastline, the signal might still be reasonable on the flybridge – as it can reach the operator antennas located on the coast – but it will still be too weak on the lower decks.&nbsp;With this lower signal strength, the data performance of smartphones and routers will gradually decrease, resulting in a small bandwidth that is unusable for many applications.&nbsp;The signal is also often unstable, even when travelling only a short distance from the coast, and can go from good to weak every few kilometres. This is because operators install antennas where they can lure in customers, meaning that many areas along the scarcely habited coasts have no antennas at all!&nbsp;Finally, most vessels have a steel hull with wooden accommodation, as well as windows protected against heat loss. This means they are almost completely shielded against signals from outside, including incoming GSM signals. In this case, you would have to go outside on the highest deck to make contact with the rest of the world.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/183870/image/large-a394b549a1bb192715be95593c7c5d8b.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/183870">How do your products address these issues?We offer two main solutions for superyachts: the Hotel Solution (Router Connect), which consists of two omnidirectional antennas installed as high up as possible on the mast.&nbsp;This signal is conducted to a MIMO amplifier and range optimiser system to filter and regulate the strength and stability for all operators on all available frequency bands. In short: this signal is usable up to 35km from the most nearby operator antennas on the coast – more than enough range to meet the needs of today’s superyachts. <img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/207731/image/large-4ccc064e1c50ae4fe65271d17fd9957b.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/207731">This signal is then fed into routers equipped with a series of modems with SIM cards from different operators, which deliver data bandwidth depending on the local geographical situation. The bandwidth from the modems is bonded together, providing one broad and stable internet connection.&nbsp;Our second solution is the GSM Connect indoor coverage solution. This is similar to the first, but the adjusted and filtered signal from the amplifier is distributed over a coaxial network with small antennas installed where coverage is needed. <img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/207730/image/large-3b695f57d51c7b7d65d3c0417daae6e2.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/207730">The big advantage of this solution is that those on board do not need to connect to the Wifi, they can just continue to use their own device without changing any settings, and will pay for their own usage when they get home (as a major bonus for the yacht’s owner!). This also means there is no limit on the number of simultaneous users of the system, and no influence on the available bandwidth if more users are active or not.&nbsp;The result of both systems is a very substantial diminution of the VSAT cost, as well as a huge increase in the flexibility of the communication possibilities on board.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/577/image/large-ea1296089209ec45bcc85f23a2bb0099.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/577">It would be remiss to end the article without some name dropping. Galeocerdo and Kogo in Mexico

One of the most well-known cruising-buddy yachts in the global fleet has got to be the ultra fast Wally motor yacht Galeocerdo and her French mothership, Kogo. The two has been spotted cruising and anchored side by side all over the world over the past few years and it would seem there is no separating the two. Galeocerdo is Wally Yachts’ one-off custom speedster and was built as Wallypower in 2003 when she stunned the industry with her futuristic and and aggressive exterior. Her exhilarating top speed of 65 knots makes her one of the fastest yachts ever built. In contrast, her mothership was built for steady and long ocean passages with a cruising range of 7,000 nm. Kogo was built in 2006 by Alstom in France to a design by Tim Heywood with and interior by Terence Disdale.

The final race of the 2016 Formula 1 World Championship is taking place in Abu Dhabi, U.A.E. this weekend. The Middle East’s largest sporting event attracts a large number of high-profile charter and private yachts to Yas Marina each year as the perfect location from which to experience the exhilarating action taking place on the race circuit. This year is no different and yachts such as Titania, Kogo, Mogambo and Galeocerdo are all tied up in one of the wealthiest cities in the world for the next few days.

Electrical engineering firm SeaKing Electrical is making waves in the superyacht market after landing two major contracts and scooping a major award. This involved a four month dry dock project in La Ciotat, South France where SeaKing worked as a contractor to marine consultant Svitzer. <img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/138686/image/large-68a1900cd7ba8a297606e0c284edb8d6.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/128671">SeaKing Group Business Development Manager Neil Mellenchip said the contract was such a success that Svitzer gave it an achievement award for electrical maintenance. “This was a terrific contract to work on which really showcased the range of services we offer the super yacht sector, which is a key growth sector for us,” he said. “We sent six marine technicians to work on the Kogo upgrade which was a complex and demanding job. Work included the installation of helicopter landing lights, earth monitoring systems as well as CCTV, WIFI and alarm networks. Other new equipment installed included an advanced DALI lighting system and a Bridge Navigational Watch Alarm System. We were also responsible for upgrading the on board Crestron control, media distribution and entertainment network with a brand new KNX system. Further work saw modifications to guest cabins, bridge wings, air compressors, the air handling plant and the ships lift. In addition SeaKing was responsible for the calibration of the ships combinators.” Mr Mellenchip said SeaKing is also due to work on board the super yacht Solemar. He said the firm has already undertaken fire detection system survey work and is due to start the refit in Antibes, South France, in April. “The complexity of super yacht equipment is increasing each year,” he said. “It is vital that any electrical technicians involved with this sort of work have a thorough and complete understanding of product application and the installation process. Built as September Blue for a UK owner, she was later sold to the current owner of Lürssen’s Coral Island who used her for dive trips. Later on this Feadship was sold to the owner of Kogo, but when Kogo was delivered in 2006 Tugatsu was sold once again. Nowadays she is owned by a former Formula 1 driver who extensively refitted the yacht at Composite Works in 2006. Kogo docking in Port Hercule, Monaco

At SYT we always stay up to date with the latest information. She was docked in the Port of Nice. A few days later I saw her passing far off the coast heading to Saint Tropez.<img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/122969/image/large-0ddcd7ff51d69ea4e11a9fa97f991941.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/122969">The 62m Codecasa Apogee arriving in Monaco. Before she was heading to Monaco she was anchored off St Jean Cap Ferrat. Her she is pictured whilst leaving Port Hercule of Monaco. The interior of this private yacht was designed by Larvor. She changed hands recently and underwent a refit at Compositeworks in La Ciotat where a new interior to a design of Redman Whiteley &amp; Dixon was installed.
