(Company)">Golden Yachts</a> has emerged over the past 25 years as a serious but sometimes enigmatic contender in the charter, refit and new construction arenas. With plans for 100-metre plus builds, SuperYacht Times toured the yard in Athens, Greece, and spoke with its founder about the company’s past and its exciting future.It should come as no surprise to learn that Captain Paris Dragnis, founder of the <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/778" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Golden Yachts Ltd. (Company)">Golden Yachts</a> shipyard in Athens, Greece, is himself a multiple boat owner. That he started his long and illustrious career as a professional seaman, gaining his captain’s certificate before his 26th birthday, and progressed to becoming a commercial ship owner is important, because it speaks not only to a passion for the sea but also to great experience in all aspects of owning and operating vessels. Even more so, in fact, as most of the vessels <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/778" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Golden Yachts Ltd. (Company)">Golden Yachts</a> has built remain under the company’s ownership and serve as a fleet charter business.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/248325/image/large-dd53e0fba3d410ebab65a0a5f327f359.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/248325">Those yachts began in 1996 with the build of the 42-metre <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/7237" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="O'Pari95.0m (311'8&quot;)Golden Yachts Ltd.2020">O’Pari</a> at the <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/228" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Intermarine S.p.A. (Company)">Intermarine</a> yard in Italy. The first of several projects overseen by the nascent <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/778" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Golden Yachts Ltd. (Company)">Golden Yachts</a> with Italian builders, <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/7237" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="O'Pari95.0m (311'8&quot;)Golden Yachts Ltd.2020">O’Pari</a> was intended as a private vessel for Dragnis, but requests to charter set a new business approach in motion. <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/7237" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="O'Pari95.0m (311'8&quot;)Golden Yachts Ltd.2020">O’Pari</a> was followed by yachts at <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/375" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Baglietto S.p.A. (Company)">Baglietto</a> and <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/72" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Mondomarine SpA (Company)">Mondomarine</a> then in 2004 came a big step up with the conversion of the 85-metre O’Mega (now <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/1096" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Emir82.5m (270'8&quot;)Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd.1985">Emir</a>) from cruise ship to superyacht.It was around this time that the company invested in its own project and engineering teams, gearing up not only for refit works but also for bringing new yacht construction in-house. That was realised in 2007 with the launch of the first GY 50 series yacht, O’Ptasia (now <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/1090" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Vertigo51.84m (170'1&quot;)Golden Yachts Ltd.2007">Vertigo</a>). New shipyard facilities followed in 2010, and in 2011 the award-winning semi-displacement 39.5-metre <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/2761" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="O'Pati39.47m (129'6&quot;)Golden Yachts Ltd.2011">O’Pati</a> emerged.The 2010s marked a change of pace for <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/778" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Golden Yachts Ltd. (Company)">Golden Yachts</a> which, with long-term design collaborator <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/76" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Studio Vafiadis (Company)">Giorgio Vafiadis</a>, stepped up its construction with the build of the 71.85 metre O’Pari3&nbsp;(now <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/5548" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Natalina A71.85m (235'9&quot;)Golden Yachts Ltd.2015">Natalina A</a>), launched in 2015, and the 85 metre <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/5958" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="O'Ptasia85.0m (278'10&quot;)Golden Yachts Ltd.2018">O’Ptasia</a> (2018) and 95 metre <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/7237" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="O'Pari95.0m (311'8&quot;)Golden Yachts Ltd.2020">O’Pari</a> (2020) have confirmed the company’s push to significantly larger builds. The completion of the 88 metre <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/2354" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Project X87.6m (287'5&quot;)Golden Yachts Ltd.2022">Project X</a> – a build that had lain dormant in the <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/47" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Delta Marine (Company)">Delta</a> yard for more than eight years – suggests a move toward working with external clients. SuperYacht Times spoke to Captain Paris Dragnis and one of his sons, Vasilis Dragnis, about the past and future of the company.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/240107/image/large-c8af742131245cf42b5828119090af8b.jpeg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/240107">When did you first get into yachting, and how did the&nbsp;<a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/778" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Golden Yachts Ltd. (Company)">Golden Yachts</a>&nbsp;brand bsuness develop?Paris Dragnis: I have been a ship owner for 52 years and have been building yachts for 32 years. When I was young I had sailing boats, and then I took a wooden boat for my family and I started to love it. I decided in the early 1990s to build a 40-metre yacht in GRP – quite a big boat for that time – at the <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/228" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Intermarine S.p.A. (Company)">Intermarine</a> yard in Italy.A lot of people asked to charter the yacht, and I found that with two weeks charter I could cover all my expenses for the year. That first yacht actually covered its costs five and a half times over and also brought me a lot of happiness.I started to go bigger, to 50 metres through to 60 metres. It was all done with cash from our own pocket because I had a very bad experience with banks – when you have a problem they turn on you, which is happening to a lot of ship owners in Greece and internationally. I consider yachts a luxury item and I do them in cash with no banks involved.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/115062/image/large-7e6abcde2e7beeb51bd205292586f1c7.png" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/115062">You not only own and now build your own yachts but also put them into service as a charter fleet. How do you keep ahead of the competition and make that a viable business?PD: We entered the charter market almost by coincidence, but then our company started to become very well known. We have a lot of very famous people who come as charter clients – I can’t mention names due to confidentiality agreements, but they include kings, prime ministers, famous sports stars, and many others.I don’t like to have competition from the market for chartering. There are too many 50-metre boats, so I want bigger boats – my next yacht is 122 metres. The charter market is also very high right now and our boats are fully booked. We also take care of our customers as friends.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/248329/image/large-63668f6eaf9146b3c89a6c2659ba6e70.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/248329">Which do you think are the most important boats in the&nbsp;<a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/778" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Golden Yachts Ltd. (Company)">Golden Yachts</a>&nbsp;fleet, and how did the tradition of naming them with the “O’” begin?PD: <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/5958" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="O'Ptasia85.0m (278'10&quot;)Golden Yachts Ltd.2018">O’Ptasia</a> has been remarkable – too many buyers wanting her, and so many charterers, and the crew are amazing.The name O’- was really a coincidence. When I signed for the first 42-metre it turned out the yard had advertised the boat with the name Paris – my name. They wanted $300,000 for it, so I said don’t worry, we will put an O’ in front of it, because in ancient Greek that actually gives emphasis to the name. Since then all my boats have had the O’ in front – it gave me a sort of trade name.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/241209/image/large-5f44b5bfbf02471aac4eaf89d675090d.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/241209">Are you still actively engaged in the shipping side of the business, or is the yachting side your preference now?PD: Honestly, I love yachting more than shipping at the moment. I’ve owned more than 600 ships, and I’ve now left my sons to take care of the shipping business. I like the yacht industry, and I joke with friends sometimes that the yachts are my new girlfriends!I am 78 years old and I am still working. I am very happy that I have a family and grandchildren and I’m still very active 24 hours a day because work, especially in yachting, makes me very excited. Sometimes I have ideas in the middle of the night, and the following morning I start consulting people on them. I am also very happy that I give jobs to more than 400 people in my country, which is very important at the moment, and in a sector that is not so well known here.Your sons John and Vasilis work in the&nbsp;<a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/778" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Golden Yachts Ltd. (Company)">Golden Yachts</a>&nbsp;side of the business – how important is that family aspect to you?I’d love to leave behind <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/778" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Golden Yachts Ltd. (Company)">Golden Yachts</a> for my kids as a brand that they will improve more and more. But I’m also the old style of Greek ship owner, and I also consider my staff as a family and I look out for them in both in the good moments and the bad ones.As far as my children are concerned, Vasilis deals with the shipyard because John – although he is involved in the yachting, chartering and sometimes construction side – doesn’t have the time to cover everything because we still have quite an active shipping company with a lot of ships.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/248326/image/large-fe87eb2d850843e97bdd9fb304174390.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/248326">You recently developed a new shipyard next to the original yard in Piraeus and you have two projects there –&nbsp;<a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/2354" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Project X87.6m (287'5&quot;)Golden Yachts Ltd.2022">Project X</a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/11076" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="O'Rea77.7m (254'11&quot;)Golden Yachts Ltd.2023">O'Rea</a>. What are your plans for the yard and for future projects?PD: Our second yard here opened earlier this year, but we are actually in the process of trying to buy a bigger shipyard with all the facilities including synchrolift and floating dock to be able to both build and refit yachts up to 150 metres. We wanted to buy both the shipyards here in Piraeus but once the sellers realised who we were the price tripled overnight.We have a 125-metre yacht in design – a fantastic boat – and I have a proposal for a 140-metre yacht that has been built at another shipyard and that yard has made a proposal for me to finalise the yacht for them. I have had a lot of people approach me lately to do business with them – I didn’t expect it but if you perform and you build in a timely way the results will come, and I take care of my boats.Vasilis Dragnis: The second shipyard in Piraeus took 18 months to develop. We built the yard specifically for yachts from 40m to 140m – the yard covers 7,500 square metres and it also has an underground piping network for gas which makes it very safe for welding. We have a floating dock for vessels up to 4,000 tons but we have plans for a new floating dock with a 10,000-ton capacity. We also have all sorts of services inhouse, including steel fabrication, piping, mechanics, electricians, hydraulics specialists and more. And although we’re focused on new-builds, we do also do refits.PD: In our other shipyard in Piraeus we do refits up to 60 metres, and we do quite a lot of them. In the new shipyard I would like to take on refits up to 150 metres.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/236685/image/large-af91b4ce717b43b3364efcfd56efc525.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/236685">The 77-metre&nbsp;<a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/11076" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="O'Rea77.7m (254'11&quot;)Golden Yachts Ltd.2023">O'Rea</a>&nbsp;is a departure from the usual&nbsp;<a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/778" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Golden Yachts Ltd. (Company)">Golden Yachts</a>&nbsp;style – is that indicative of a new direction for the brand being proposed by the next generation of the Dragnis family?VD: Yes, we want to change and evolve; we want to be different and always at the vanguard. For <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/11076" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="O'Rea77.7m (254'11&quot;)Golden Yachts Ltd.2023">O'Rea</a>, we had a lot of meetings with <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/76" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Studio Vafiadis (Company)">Giorgio Vafiadis</a>, the architect, and I spent a lot of time studying and choosing the elements from the GA and all the materials for the interior. But she is something very different – it’s the first time we have done an axe-bow yacht, and it’s the first time we have put guest cabins on the lower deck and not just on the main or upper decks.We’ve also used many different techniques in the aluminium construction as she has a lot of curves, which is more demanding in terms of construction. We gathered all the experience from our previous yachts and instilled it all in this new project. My brother John and I pushed Vafiadis to try something different – we specifically wanted this different design. So far so good – we’ve already got a lot of demand for charter!

(Company)">Golden Yachts</a> unveiled its 85-metre charter star <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/5958" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="O'Ptasia85.0m (278'10&quot;)Golden Yachts Ltd.2018">O’Ptasia</a> back in 2018, it's then flagship was received with high praise, clinching several awards and a full charter book to back up the hype. Those in the know, however, knew that <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/778" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Golden Yachts Ltd. (Company)">Golden Yachts</a> wasn’t going to stop there and already had a bigger, grander and more feature-rich project in build that would further elevate the yard’s status. Enter, <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/7237" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="O'Pari95.0m (311'8&quot;)Golden Yachts Ltd.2020">O’Pari</a>. Launched last year, this 95-metre charter-ready super cruiser is not just the yard’s latest flagship vessel but builds on the experience gained from the 13 vessels constructed before her under the <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/778" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Golden Yachts Ltd. (Company)">Golden Yachts</a> fleet, <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/7237" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="O'Pari95.0m (311'8&quot;)Golden Yachts Ltd.2020">O’Pari</a> was designed and built specifically for the charter market. For shipyard chairman and founder, Paris Dragnis, a proud Greek with Hellenic maritime heritage as part of his DNA, building a new and bigger <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/7237" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="O'Pari95.0m (311'8&quot;)Golden Yachts Ltd.2020">O’Pari</a> was the obvious next step in the yard’s evolution. “You cannot aim for new horizons until you have the courage to leave known shores,” he says. “Our aim is to build yachts like this. I imagine them in Greek waters, the birthplace of naval mastery, with every detail taken care of to the utmost perfection. Longtime design partner <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/76" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Studio Vafiadis (Company)">Studio Vafiadis</a> was once again drafted in to continue the line of <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/778" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Golden Yachts Ltd. (Company)">Golden Yachts</a> with its familiar style of elegant proportions and flowing guest spaces. “I would define the exterior design as being like the Hellenistic philosophy of the ‘Apollonian’ and ‘Dionysian’ spirits,” explains Stefano Vafiadis. <img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/185121/image/large-33e9af6b04d4b0bb2c410183fa1d8d38.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/185121">He continues: “This combines rational thinking and order together with emotions and instincts. The straight lines of the decks are geometrical and give a cadence to the overall look, almost like a musical base. Most of all, this additional breathing room allowed the studio to finetune even the smallest details. “For example, the lowered bulwarks with glass railings on the aft lounges or enlarged glazings on the profile are details which you might not immediately notice. Separated by a bar and dining area, guests can retreat to the sundeck during the day for a dip in the forward Jacuzzi, or end their night with a screening of the latest films under starlight in an outdoor cinema setting that can be arranged by the crew.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/185117/image/large-4180e0a0d61154f79814cac0f7bc30f6.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/185117">Beach life When anchored in one of the many tranquil Aegean bays, life on board often concentrates around the beach club area of any boat, and things are no different aboard <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/7237" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="O'Pari95.0m (311'8&quot;)Golden Yachts Ltd.2020">O’Pari</a>. In fact, this space is designed to be used not only on sunny days at anchor, but also offers a full wellness set up adjacent to the welcome bar and seaside lounge. “The beach club is vast and has a very nice system of sliding glazings that makes it even more enjoyable, creating the feeling of being on the water but providing the comfort of air conditioning if needed. A welcoming and enjoyable spa is located right next on the forward portion of the beach club with a massage room and a steam room available for guests with beautiful onyx marble, mosaics and relaxing lighting effects.” <img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/185119/image/large-3a7d3cd4a5166d34d8346449c0103513.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/185119">The beach club leads out onto an expansive five-metre swimming platform which allows for an elaborate beach setup with enough remaining space for diving and watersports preparations. Defined by a contrasting theme with universal appeal, those on board are treated to deckhead heights of 2.9 metres and a gross tonnage of just over 2,700, all of which has been utilised to enhance the guest experience. Thanks to &nbsp;special lighting design features and strip LEDs, we were able to sculpt and define the materials and shapes.” <img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/185127/image/large-1417594b76396059d0a09c7360e25f40.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/185127">The materials Stefano speak of include mother of pearl, onyx and various precious woods that define each cabin in a different style. <img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/185116/image/large-ba480350a03e5894cb967493377b1e63.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/185116">Drifting off Where guests are often presented with a hierarchy of cabins on board charter yachts, <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/76" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Studio Vafiadis (Company)">Studio Vafiadis</a> levelled the playing field in the race for the best quarters by supersizing most of the guest suites to VIP status. “Many of the cabins which are located on the main and upper deck should be considered as VIPs, while a second full-beam master cabin on the main deck is bigger and more luxurious than on any previous boat by <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/778" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Golden Yachts Ltd. <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/5958" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="O'Ptasia85.0m (278'10&quot;)Golden Yachts Ltd.2018">O’Ptasia</a> is the latest in a long line of exponentially growing superyachts built and owned under the <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/778" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Golden Yachts Ltd. (Company)">Golden Yachts</a> name. Over the years, the Greek company has mastered the charter market with its unique business model to build for charter and not necessarily with the intention to sell. At 85 metres, she is the yard’s largest undertaking to date, but having completed the project in a record 28 months, it would seem that all those years of experience are paying off. <img src="/uploads/store/photo/88488/image/large-b1e29404323adead769bafadf0efdf16.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/88488">For this, their flagship superyacht, <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/778" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Golden Yachts Ltd. (Company)">Golden Yachts</a> teamed up once again with <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/76" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Studio Vafiadis (Company)">Studio Vafiadis</a>: the father and son duo behind the Rome-based design office that has created 11 of the 13 yachts in the O’ fleet since 1997. “The owner asked for something that would stand the test of time; a modern but classic yacht, a yacht with soft exterior lines and a large interior volume,” they explain. Knowing that superyacht <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/5958" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="O'Ptasia85.0m (278'10&quot;)Golden Yachts Ltd.2018">O’Ptasia</a> would enter the charter market immediately after delivery, the design philosophy was to please the masses, and not one particular individual. “The main challenge was to create a yacht that was so perfect in her style that she could be loved by any possible owner, with modern or more classical taste,” continues Stefano.&nbsp;After identifying several key must-have features, builder and designer together developed a platform that would deliver the ultimate in guest comfort and relaxation. A touch-and-go helipad, large beach club, big swimming pool and full wellness centre are all present and correct following direct input from experienced charterers. As a regular guest on board his own yachts, <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/778" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Golden Yachts Ltd. (Company)">Golden Yachts</a> naval architect Panagiota Mandragou. Up to 22 guests can be accommodated (12 only in charter mode) in 10 separate cabins, each finished in a harmoniously contrasting theme with dark woods and light fabrics, reflective surfaces and textured upholstery.&nbsp;There is a balance between the very simple and the very refined. The colours of the interior are warm and reflect the same elegance and taste with which the exteriors were designed. To satisfy VVIP guests that come on board, <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/5958" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="O'Ptasia85.0m (278'10&quot;)Golden Yachts Ltd.2018">O’Ptasia</a> features two master suites: one full beam version on the main deck forward and another on the upper deck forward. Here, the idea was to keep the layout simple and uncluttered, focussing on the essential ingredients that make up any good beach club: easy access to the water, generous relaxation spaces and protection from the elements. Forget about folding side balconies and glass-bottomed pools, this beach club is designed for simple family life.&nbsp;Two wide curved staircases lead down to the massive swim platform from the main deck and guests can also reach the beach club through a direct route from the main saloon. Inside is where the yacht’s hammam and massage centre is located along with an undercover lounge and bar area for those perfect sundowner moments. A sturdy passerelle slides out from the hull and lowers into the water for one of the best water entrances on a yacht of this size. At 2,340 GT, there sure is a lot of boat to cover. <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/76" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Studio Vafiadis (Company)">Studio Vafiadis</a> made use of this enormous canvas with its generous volumes to execute their love of finer materials and all things exquisite. “Nothing was left to chance; every detail was studied so that all luxurious interior areas, from the high-tech wheelhouse and the well-equipped gym to the ample crew areas, would stand out for their elegance and sophistication.”&nbsp;The studio’s deep appreciation for wooden surfaces in design means guests will notice variants such as Lati, Eucalyptus and satin-finished Platano around the yacht as well as darker shades for a contrasting effect.&nbsp;“The wood veneers were selected and placed to create the best possible grain match and a smooth even chromatic effect.”&nbsp;For a more sensual ambience, bathrooms are lined with mother of pearl inserts, onyx and marble. The various layers each play with light in its own special way, an element Vafiadis says was crucial to the design of the interior, while not creating an environment that is too ‘sparkly or dazzling’. Yesterday the sixth edition of the Mediterranean Yacht Show (MEDYS) opened its doors in the Greek town of Nafplion.

With interior and exterior lines by <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/76" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Studio Vafiadis (Company)">Studio Vafiadis</a>, she can accommodate 12 guests on board in 11 staterooms. As the largest superyacht built by<a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/778" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Golden Yachts Ltd. (Company)">&nbsp;Golden Yachts</a> to date, she is the flagship of the Greek shipyard's fleet. Standout features on board include her large beach club, complete with wellness and spa centre and her touch-and-go helipad located on the bow for helicopters up to a size MD500E. The steel-hulled displacement motor yacht is powered by twin Caterpillar 3516C diesel engines that give her a maximum speed of 17 knots and a cruising speed of 14 knots.

Her timeless design stems from the drawing board of <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/69" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Winch Design (Company)">Winch Design&nbsp;</a>and Moran Yacht &amp; Ship, who worked closely alongside the German yard to develop this custom vessel. Offering 4,500 GT spread across six decks, TIS can accommodate up to 18 guests across nine luscious staterooms. This 2,100 GT superyacht, delivered to her owners earlier this year is currently for sale with Fraser for €85.000.000,00.&nbsp;Hakvoort - 63m Scout<img src="/uploads/store/photo/56438/image/large-2bd2e1b3119d4c9a71d4b206b90a0584.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/56438">Dutch shipyard<a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/40" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Hakvoort Shipyard (Company)">&nbsp;Hakvoort</a> launched its largest motor yacht to date earlier this month in Monnickendam, the 63-metre Scout. British studio <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/161" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="H2 Yacht Design (Company)">H2 Yacht Design</a> is the design agency behind Scout’s exterior and interior design, while fellow-Dutch firm <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/7" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Diana Yacht Design B.V. (Company)">Diana Yacht Design</a> created the project’s naval architecture. Scout has undergone several re-stylings during her build after her original owner put her up for sale during the early stages of construction. Able to accommodate eight guests in four cabins, all located on the main deck, Scout is due to be delivered to her new owners in spring 2019.&nbsp;BONUS: Benetti - 107m FB 277<img src="/uploads/store/photo/58364/image/large-25baddbf1d2714d7b853376ec7f3dffc.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/58364">Last on our list we have the bonus entry, the 107-metre <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/212" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Benetti SpA (Company)">Benetti&nbsp;</a>superyacht&nbsp;FB 277. One of the first three 100-metre plus superyachts to be built by the Italian yard, FB 277 was officially launched on December 18 in Livorno. &nbsp;Completely designed and engineered by the in-house team at Benetti, the FB 277 offers a hefty volume of 3,800 GT and a distinctive vertical bow design. On board, she can welcome up to 16 overnight guests in eight cabins and features a swimming pool next to a helipad. Once delivered to her owners she will be exclusively available for charter for summer 2019.&nbsp;

Golden Yachts have announced the launch of the 57-metre motor yacht O'Mathilde,&nbsp;which took place on Monday.&nbsp;<img src="/uploads/store/photo/34601/image/large-de615cef171b3fa52110d72f3908b2e1.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/34601">Sporting a steel hull and aluminium superstructure, this 57-metre superyacht will feature interior design by Studio Vafiadis and accommodates up to 12 guests across seven staterooms, comprising five double staterooms and two twins. Earlier this week the Greek shipyard Golden Yachts launched their largest superyacht to date, the 85-metre O’Ptasia. A touch-and-go helipad is found on her bow, which is capable of handling a helicopter size of MD500E.O’Ptasia will be available for charter through Atalanta Golden Yachts and she is staffed by a crew of 26 under the command of captain Nikos Demertzis. While O’Ptasia is now the largest yacht launched by Golden Yachts, it has been rumoured that an even larger yacht could be on the way soon. Golden Yachts launch 85m yacht O’Ptasia

The 85-metre superyacht currently under construction at Greek shipyard Golden Yachts is nearing completion, with her launch scheduled to take place at the end of April. A collaboration we have seen before on O’Pati, O’Neiro&nbsp;and&nbsp;O’pari^ (now Natalina A), Giorgio Vafiadis is responsible for her design, with the head of the project, George Chairakakis, undertaking her naval architecture. New 85m Golden Yachts superyacht O’Ptasia nears completion 

Looking ahead to the New Year in the industry and 2018 is set to be another interesting year for superyacht launches around the world. Here we round up a selection of the top 10 biggest launches we can expect to see this year.Lürssen - 111mFirst catching a glimpse of the 111-metre latest Lürssen in late 2016, TIS spreads over six decks spanning 16.8 metres across, housing a very generous interior volume.
