The fifth unit of <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/374" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Sanlorenzo (Company)">Sanlorenzo</a>’s yacht 52Steel has been launched at the La Spezia shipyard. Currently, there are three more units of the model in-build by the Italian shipbuilder.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/186694/image/large-70ad04f3034290ae514358c1f9b5e983.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/186694">The 52-metre yacht 52Steel has five decks and comes in at under 500 GT. A main characteristic of the 52Steel is its unique stern area and main-deck swimming pool with a transparent bottom allowing light to flow into the area below.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/186695/image/large-b0443fcd1751c5a11d1462150d8c1fcb.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/186695">The tailor-made model boasts an exterior designed by <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/366" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Officina Italiana Design (Mauro Micheli) (Company)">Officina Italiana Design</a>. The interior, designed by architect Tiziana Vercellesi, has been customised to the owner’s tastes. The design features a classic style with warm colours and includes materials such as Tanganyika wood, light-coloured leathers, and marble.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/186696/image/large-1d7aba527f9d102cf9705bf5e254409b.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/186696">Her layout strays from the traditional layout of the 52Steel, and in place of where the owner’s suite would typically be located, two VIP suites are situated at the bow of the main deck. <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/374" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Sanlorenzo (Company)">Sanlorenzo</a> is a brand that has a rich and long-established history in the superyacht world. Building upon the pre-existing pure lines, elegance, balanced proportions and Mediterranean flair found in the 46Steel range, the Italian superyacht builder presented the bigger and better sub-500 GT 52Steel model <a href="https://www.superyachttimes.com/yacht-news/sanlorenzo-s-52-steel-seen-for-the-first-time" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="">in 2015</a>. Fast forward half a decade and <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/374" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Sanlorenzo (Company)">Sanlorenzo</a> has moved four of their 52-metre products into the water and four remain in the shed; marking a perfect time to go behind the scenes of what makes this model one of the stars of the <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/374" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Sanlorenzo (Company)">Sanlorenzo</a> fleet. <img src="/uploads/store/photo/69934/image/large-5f58db66bf39871a90c7c6f3abd0cbaa.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/69934"><img src="/uploads/store/photo/69939/image/large-1093fe9c583d6c38bfb4a73c6224c6f4.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/69939">Looking out on to the Montemarcello-Magra natural reserve in the province of La Spezia sits <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/374" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Sanlorenzo (Company)">Sanlorenzo</a> Superyacht Division headquarters. Inside, a dedicated team are working solely on the construction and development of the 52Steel line. The Project Engineer, a team of style and décor architects, the Project Manager and Chief Director all work in unison to oversee the building process of each and every 52Steel, including hull numbers 147 and 143 which are currently being built on speculation and are due to hit the water during 2022. <img src="/uploads/store/photo/68243/image/large-68f2a386b3a63cb6e01b47d5bbbc5642.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/68243">“We have built these units on spec as it is very important to give continuity. With this constant production, we manage to keep all workers busy. Because we keep the same workers involved in the same line of yachts, we naturally continue to improve the quality boat by boat,” explains <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/374" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Sanlorenzo (Company)">Sanlorenzo</a>’s Vice President of Sales and Marketing, Antonio Santella. “It is normal here at&nbsp;<a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/374" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Sanlorenzo (Company)">Sanlorenzo</a>&nbsp;that we always have at least one boat per line under construction as a speculation project because the delivery time is a key selling point for a new yacht,” he adds.<img src="/uploads/store/photo/30539/image/large-be308c8f925e51d19f5d33e68e6264da.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/30539">As the factory workers focus on constructing the two speculation hulls, Santella describes the sort of owner these new-builds will attract. “A smart person! If comparing all new constructions under 500 GRT, any owner will find these yachts have more volume, the smartest solutions and the best performances at the right price.” Six smart owners have already secured their own 52Steel, the latest being <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/6597" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Lady Lena52.0m (170'7&quot;)Sanlorenzo2020">Lady Lena</a> who recently completed her sea trials and is now awaiting delivery. As the fourth unit in the series, <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/6597" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Lady Lena52.0m (170'7&quot;)Sanlorenzo2020">Lady Lena</a> carries the same machinery as the previous unit, <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/5723" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="KD52.0m (170'7&quot;)Sanlorenzo2018">KD</a>, and was tested on forecasted speed, range, noise and vibration levels. Interior designer <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/366" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Officina Italiana Design (Mauro Micheli) (Company)">Mauro Micheli</a> was brought on board to bring each owner’s ideal interior design to life. Each with their own peculiarities, every unit in the 52Steel line features the same steel hull with bulbous bow, big stabilisers below the waterline and hefty beam of 9.5 metres. The 52Steel is the perfect platform for exploring popular cruising grounds such as the Mediterranean. Her manageable size means she will be welcome in the region’s most tucked-away marinas whilst providing her guests with the space to enjoy the ample amenities. <img src="/uploads/store/photo/23999/image/large-806acda76a19e5a0605cf7f22057ac96.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/23999">Designed with an entire aft deck dedicated to lifestyle, the 52-metre range comes complete with a large pool and a specially engineered 94-square-metre beach club that uses all three sides of the lower deck to transform the area into one floating water-side paradise. The separate wellness area forward of the beach club adds a complete experience that caters to your body and mind. Once all 12 guests are on board, the large gym can be explored, as well as the main-deck saloon and the glass-covered side bulwarks on both the main and upper deck.
