Strong headway has been made with the construction of the 34.9-metre explorer yacht Project Fox at <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/209" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Pendennis Shipyard Ltd (Company)">Pendennis</a> and she’s on course to meet her delivery date of 2023.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/220718/image/large-158509db47bdb762e5a7a4bc4aff6355.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/220718"> Project Fox seeks to be a trailblazer in the explorer yacht segment. She offers an interior and exterior design by <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/6663" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Q London (Company)">Q London</a> laid onto a hull by <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/7" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Diana Yacht Design B.V. (Company)">Diana Yacht Design</a>, a 3,600 nautical mile range, 295 GT of interior volume and accommodation for up to eight guests. James Ratcliffe, Managing Partner of <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/6663" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Q London (Company)">Q London</a>, explained that he stuck to a clean, minimalist interior design that’s flexible and easy to customise, to keep her appeal high for a wide range of potential clients. In lieu of traditional teak, <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/6663" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Q London (Company)">Q London</a> opted for the more sustainable substitute, designed by Tesumo.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/220717/image/large-f799c97d07d211a4a2b0ff37a67c1f26.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/220717"><img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/220715/image/large-6b30f54aa3d456d4505380ee7e090ed1.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/220715">But what makes Project Fox truly unique is that her design pivots on her 103.5 square-metre main deck aft, which boasts heaps of space for tenders, toys and all the paraphernalia necessary for adventure. When deployed, the spacious main deck is versatile and can cater to an all manner of needs. Smits Scheepswerven N.V.1957">Seawolf</a> and Elbe arrived at the Hoek of Holland earlier this week. Smits Scheepswerven N.V.1957">Seawolf</a> underwent an extensive four-year-long refit from 1998 to 2002 in which she was first converted from an ocean-going tug into the luxury yacht we see her as today. <a href="https://www.superyachttimes.com/yachts/seawolf" target="_blank">Seawolf</a> accommodates up to 12 guests over six staterooms, including one luxurious master suite, one VIP suite, two double and two twin cabins. Powered by two Smit Man RB666 1,500 hp engines, she has a top speed of 15 knots, a cruising speed of 12 knots, and an impressive range of 18,000 nm.Her sistership, Elbe, is perhaps not as glamorous but shares the same active background in deep-sea salvage operations. The two ships were once part of the Smit seagoing fleet and carried out several towing and salvage missions around the world. Elbe’s time with the company came to an end in 1976 when she was acquired by the Association of Maryland Pilots of Baltimore and renamed Maryland. Nearly a decade later, the ship was sold to Greenpeace as the organisation's new flagship, Greenpeace, under which she circumnavigated the world several times until 2002. In the following years, work began to restore the Elbe as a working museum by the Foundation Maritime Collection Rijnmond in the Netherlands and was returned to sea in 2012.&nbsp;

Out of a superyacht fleet spanning 4,981 yachts currently in operation, there are those vessels with stories behind them which are truly remarkable. (Company)">&nbsp;J &amp; K Smits Scheepswerven N/V&nbsp;</a>in the Netherlands in 1957 as the steel tugboat Clyde,&nbsp;she underwent conversion works to transform her into a unique expedition superyacht. The work was done in Astilleros de Mallorca between 1998 and 2004. But this is not just any superyacht: <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/697" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Seawolf58.83m (193'0&quot;)J. & K. Once upon a time, <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/697" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Seawolf58.83m (193'0&quot;)J. & K. Smits Scheepswerven N.V.1957">Seawolf&nbsp;</a>was originally commissioned by the now-defunct shipyard <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/20" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="J. & K. Smits Scheepswerven N.V. (Company)">J &amp; K Smits&nbsp;</a>in Kinderdijk in the south of the Netherlands, to a design by Dr J. A. C Hoogenbosch. Both boats began their hardworking careers as tugs, towing flattops from the US to Belgium and Japan, cargo ships to scrap yards and drilling platforms to various destinations all around the world. All this labour was made possible by Clyde’s two Smit-MAN six-cylinder, four-stroke diesel main engines generating 1390 horsepower each. <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/697" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Seawolf58.83m (193'0&quot;)J. & K. Smits Scheepswerven N.V.1957">Seawolf&nbsp;</a>still makes the most of these original engines during her world-cruising expeditions today. Boasting a top speed of 13 knots, a cruising speed of 10 knots and range of 9,600 nautical miles at economical speed. <img src="/uploads/store/photo/78440/image/large-f8782f7b32ae2967bd7d862ee87af9ec.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/78440">This first chapter in Clyde’s career came to a close in 1977 when she was sold to Matsas Salvage. She worked for 13 years at the salvage company in Greece until she was bought by a German towage enthusiast and gifted her the lupine name,&nbsp;Seawolfe. In 1998, it was all to change again. and a Greek owner based in the Caribbean took a shine to Seawolfe. He made the biggest decision in her career: to convert <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/697" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Seawolf58.83m (193'0&quot;)J. & K. (Company)">Astilleros&nbsp;</a>shipyard in Palma and resulted in a stunning and utterly unique superyacht at the other side. The vessel’s tough exterior designed by Bob Hoghton hid a new, luxurious interior. Designed by Renato Parla Piano it was full of elegant details and clever design elements. Carrying the names Seawolfe C and Dolce Far Niente&nbsp;later on in her career, her name was finally shortened to<a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/697" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Seawolf58.83m (193'0&quot;)J. & K. Knowing the best dive sites in a location is certainly a benefit, but having an in-depth knowledge of all regional attractions is a fundamental necessity.&nbsp;Plans on board change regularly so anticipating the needs of an owner is of utmost importance. The key requirement to ensure the guide is of benefit to the yacht is working with the captain to create a handful of different activity options each day. The world famous marine parks of Raja Ampat and Komodo are just the tips of the iceberg of Indonesian diving. It’s important to have a guide who is experienced in diving many different areas, as the conditions can be tricky. Many of the best dives in the country are current dependent and should not be attempted without a guide familiar with the sites. In parts of West Papua, for example, the village ‘property’ extends several miles into the ocean and so a visiting vessel is essentially anchoring on the village’s back yard. As such a calm and friendly guide must visit the village elders to explain the purpose of the visit, perhaps offering gifts such as school books, footballs or rice and fuel to the village. Discovering cruising in Indonesia with the Lighthouse Consultancy

Dedicated to the refit, repair and maintenance of large yachts from 20 to 75-metres, the Atollvic Shipyard in Vigo, Spain, regularly carries out work on some of the world’s most interesting yachts, none more so than last December’s refit of the classic tug Seawolf, for the fourth time.

With a varied and complicated list of works which can usually take at least six months to complete, Atollvic successfully completed the project within a little more than three months utilising the maritime skills and experience of up to 65 shipwrights and sub-contractors, often working on board in simultaneous harmony.

The work included the rebuild of her main engines, sandblasting and complete bottom paint antifouling and hull-partial superstructure with an Awlgrip scheme. Other work included aft-deck crane refurbishment, interior furniture repair and varnishing, crew shower renewal, some teak repairs, full revision of two generators, bilge piping repairs, gas exhaust cleaning and galley exhausts, steel works in the anchor pockets, hawse pipe and SS cut water plate, all external doors for the superstructure repairs and design and supply-installation of the aft thruster clutch was done.

Summarising the range and depth of their achievement, Mr. Marco Villar, Atollvic Shipyard Managing Director, said: “The only possible way we could account for the necessary skills and quality of work required to complete this kind of intensive work schedule, including the painting as the most challenging issue, in such a short amount of time, was by calling upon the significant maritime skills and labour resource that we have access to in this amazing Ría de Vigo area, in the northwest of Spain.”

Take me to… Raja Ampat with Captain Winston Joyce-Clark

Though I am currently Captain on board the 59-metre Seawolf and, as I speak, we’re in the Caribbean, my Indonesian cruising experience was on board the 45-metre Big Fish with Aquos Yachts, as well as a ten day charter aboard a local 65-metre phinisi (traditional Indonesian two-masted sailing ship) called Lamima, which a client chartered for his 50th birthday ‘Equator Crossing’.

Indonesia fits perfectly into a niche between the some of the world’s most prolific hurricane belts and yet it has a clean slate when it comes to suffering from extra tropical weather, except for infrequent earthquakes and tsunamis, as a result of seismic tectonic plate activity.

I cannot sing Indonesia’s praises enough. It lays claim to 20% of the world's coral reefs, over 3,000 different species of fish and 600 coral species, deep water trenches, volcanic seamounts, World War II wrecks and an endless variety of macro life. There are somewhere between 13,466 and 18,307 islands in the Indonesian Archipelago (depends if you count those that are ‘tidal’ as some are below water at high tide). Each region has its own highlights - the Mentawais, Komodo, Banda Sea etc. etc. - but the most amazing topography, diving and wildlife is located in the area known as Raja Ampat. It is certainly one of my favourite places to cruise on the planet and it never fails to deliver both above and below water. Marine surveys suggest that the marine life diversity in the Raja Ampat Islands is the highest recorded on earth. The area has a wealth of incredible cays, bays, caves, 1000 jungle covered islands, hidden lagoons, pearl farms, luminous turquoise waters that average 29 degrees celsius and a quiet tranquility, as it is the least populated part of Indonesia.

If you have never visited Indonesia simply type in the word in a Google search and hit ‘images’. Active volcanoes, diverse cultures (300 distinct native ethnic groups), 742 regional languages, spectacular temples, idyllic beaches and even though the population is around 250 million people there are still a ton of deserted hideaways that are only accessible by boat.

So without further ado, here is one of my favourite itineraries in Indonesia: The Four King’s Cruise in Northern Raja Ampat.

Day 1) 
	Arrival on day one is to Sorong Airport, just a 15 minute transfer from the vessel. We start our adventure from the bustling Indonesian seaport and cruise for 43nm to Mioskon Island. White, sandy beaches await with plenty of time to get a first taste of some of the best dive spots in the world or, if that’s not your thing, guests can take a walk on the beach and soak up the incredible surroundings.

Day 2) 
	After a delicious breakfast on board, we head just 10nm from Mioskon Island to Kabui Bay. Here we find a beautiful area of karst formation rock islands, where we can go kayaking through the narrow passage between Gam and Waigeo Island, embark on tender boat rides, visit a local village, as well as a fascinating bat cave. Not for the faint-hearted, there is also the possibility to sacrificial human skulls found in a hidden cave...

Day 3) 
	Today we head to the Penemu Islands, a 50nm cruise away. More mind-blowing dives such as Melissa’s Garden and the Galaxy Reef can be explored from here, as well as another picture-perfect white sand beach and beautiful blue lagoons. 

Day 4) 
	Day four sees us cruise 34nm to South of Kawe Island and Aljui Bay. Guests can enjoy a chilled day on board soaking in the sun, or choose to take a tender into the channels that surround Aljui Bay. Not one to miss in my opinion!

Day 5) 
	A short 25nm cruise to the Quoy Islands brings us to half way through our Raja Ampat experience. Guests are offered the opportunity to dive Cathedral Rock - an incredible dive site with some of the clearest water in the world.

Day 6) 
	The Wayag Islands on day six are one of my favourite spots on this itinerary, where guests can take an easy hike to get the perfect Raja Ampat vista shot. Kayaking is a must in this anchorage, with hundreds of rock islands making for an exciting adventure. This is also where we cross the equator, and there really are just some spectacular sights up here.

Day 7) 
	One of the great aspects of cruising in Indonesia is that the cruising really is untouched. Remote, unspoiled and with a huge variety of interesting destinations and anchorages, including our day seven destination, Batang Pele. With a beach accessible at low tide only, it’s a great spot for snorkelling.

Day 8) 
	The only problem with a 10 day itinerary of the region is where to choose to visit. The possibilities are endless, though on day eight I prefer to head 30nm to the Fam Islands, where a dreamy lagoon with hundreds of small rock islands awaits. There’s also another nice hiking option here to get a perfect shot of the lagoon.

Day 9) 
	Today we cruise just 20nm to visit Arborek Island, an interesting village that is warm and welcoming to all who visit Raja Ampat. You can snorkel underneath the village jetty as well as pick up souvenirs and enjoy the presence of people after several days of almost ultimate privacy. The divers amongst us will be more than satisfied a visit to one of Raja Ampat’s unique manta cleaning stations, Manta Ridge.

Day 10) 
	Cruising 50nm to Mayalibit Bay, here we experience a huge bay with a particularly scenic narrow entrance. Fit in one last dive at the Blue Magic dive spot, and make the most of a truly spectacular place to enjoy your cocktail at sunset!

After a final cruise of 50nm, we arrive back to the bustling port of Sorong, and our adventure comes to an end… and not without a heavy bout of ‘I wish we could stay longer…’.

The 58.83 metre superyacht Seawolf in Fort Lauderdale

Following a successful collaboration between New Zealand and Spanish yards Integrated Marine Group (IMG) and Atollvic, expedition yacht Seawolf was relaunched. Seawolf looking as-new after 120 day refit

Since announcing their joint venture in 2012, the partnership between New Zealand and Spanish yards Integrated Marine Group (IMG) and Atollvic has gone from strength to strength. A successful collaboration on the well-known expedition yacht M/Y Seawolf has proven the value of the global refit network that the yards offer the superyacht fleet.<img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/145865/image/large-b9b00d14b9ae914c850f772734a93fa6.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/145865">Vigo-based Atollvic, is currently undertaking work on Seawolf, with an extensive list of maintenance and upgrade works entrusted to its team. What makes this project special however, is that Integrated Marine Group, which had Seawolf in its Auckland yard 18 months ago, will send a team to complement Atollvic’s own skilled workforce. The team of painters are indicative of the wider approach the two yards take to delivering exemplary service to clients. Seawolf undergoes a cross-hemisphere refit

Superyacht Seawolf was once the hardest working ocean going tugboat on the world. Launched in the Netherlands in 1957 as Smit Clyde, Seawolf began a global career that would gain her the respect and admiration of mariners from Yokohama to Rotterdam. Seawolf was completely redesigned and rebuilt as a superyacht in 2002 and in 2009. Last week, Seawolf met her sistership Elbe, which has not been converted into a yacht, in Holland, as the two vessels cruised side by side in Rotterdam.<iframe allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/0_p_7jmTW88" width="420"></iframe>

April brokerage and charter news from Fraser Yachts

Fraser Yachts announce three sales in February, among the most notable is the sale of the 58m converted tug Dolce Far Niente. The yacht is now renamed Seawolf and joins the Fraser Yachts charter fleet. Jan-Jaap Minnema, of the Monaco office, announces the sale of Bystander and he also reports the signing of two new central agency listings for sale: Heesen’s Alumercia and Vitters’ Dardanella.
