Andy Douglas, Chief Structural Engineer explains, “Every yacht project brings enormous levels of complexity, but some are more notable than others. Very recently, you would have seen the launch of the Koru, a project in which we provided various supporting roles, specifically structural design. The team had to find innovative ways to answer the very high global and local loads placed on the vessel structure and the integration of masts and sailing gear while ensuring it was all buildable and equipment remained accessible – not easy when space is at such a premium.We also regularly work with owners, designers and shipyards who are consciously looking to step away from the traditional design language seen to date. For example, a recent catamaran motor yacht project. The project features a fully asymmetric superstructure design, with lots of open glazed spaces. Being devoid of symmetry in either form or structure, there were huge challenges and new ways of thinking needed to be developed not just with the structural engineering but with the naval architecture too (stability modelling, etc).”<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/221764/image/large-9abe9f98e9895c234841245a39e8261d.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/221764">James adds, “We live in a period where the pace of development is accelerating. Collaboration is key here, because the knowledge is spread across many different companies, people, organisations, and stakeholders. We are currently estimating her volume to be more than 15,000 GT and in the coming days we will be able to share the first images of this superyacht. If our estimations of the yachts length are correct, in our ranking of the <a href="https://www.superyachttimes.com/yacht-news/world-s-largest-yachts" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="">50 biggest superyachts in the world</a> Blue will unseat the 2016 <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/23" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Lürssen Yachts (Company)">Lürssen</a> superyacht <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/5967" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Dilbar156.0m (511'10&quot;)Lürssen Yachts2016">Dilbar</a> from her position at number five. <img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/193077/image/large-ed156d08959d523ef7a8ecd42a5f6344.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/193077">2. Project Opera was first <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Article/52728" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Hull of 146m Lürssen superyacht Project Opera launched (2021-04-16 12:30:00 +0200)">unveiled in April last year when she was transported from her initial construction shed in Hamburg to the Lürssen outfitting facility</a>. Like Project Blue&nbsp;the details of the yacht have remained tightly under wraps, however, we do know that her exterior lines come from the boards of <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/2" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Terence Disdale Design (Company)">Terence Disdale Design</a>. Luminance |&nbsp;<a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/23" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Lürssen Yachts (Company)">Lürssen</a>&nbsp;| 145-metreComing up in third place is yet another <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/23" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Lürssen Yachts (Company)">Lürssen</a>, the 145-metre Luminance.&nbsp;We are not entirely <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Article/52396" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="New 140m+ Lürssen superyacht taking shape (2021-02-11 13:30:00 +0100)">sure if&nbsp;Luminance&nbsp;will be finished this year, though her hull was transported in 2021</a>, she has not been seen since. <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/23" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Lürssen Yachts (Company)">Lürssen</a> however have a solid reputation for producing high quality yachts to their delivery dates, so we will have to wait and see! Unlike the about two vessels we do know the interior designer of the yacht, with the owner selecting <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/67" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Zuretti Interior Design (Company)">Zuretti Interior Design</a>. <img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/178325/image/large-25314e22985fec21502476c9be11c8e9.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/178325">4. Feadship de Vries Project 1010 |&nbsp;<a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/29" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Feadship (Company)">Feadship</a>&nbsp;| 118-metreMoving away from Germany, number four on our list is <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/29" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Feadship (Company)">Feadship</a>'s Project 1010 &nbsp;<a data-gid="gid://syiq/Article/51912" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Revealed: 118m Feadship 1010 under construction (2020-10-19 09:30:00 +0200)">which was first revealed as she was moved from her construction shed in October 2020.</a> The superyacht is the biggest vessel ever constructed by the Dutch shipyard, and since her relocation in 2020, she has been based at the shipbuilder's outfitting facility in Makkum, just outside Amsterdam. Project 1010 has been designed externally by Monaco-based designer <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/82" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Espen Øino International (Company)">Espen Øino International</a>, while, like Luminance, <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/67" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Zuretti Interior Design (Company)">Zuretti Interior Design</a> has been charged with her interior design. Project 6507&nbsp;| <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/44" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Abeking & Rasmussen (Company)">Abeking &amp; Rasmussen</a> | 118-metreHeading back to Germany, number five is Project 6507&nbsp;from <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/44" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Abeking & Rasmussen (Company)">Abeking &amp; Rasmussen</a> shipyard. 6507 is an exciting new superyacht, not least because her exterior lines come from the boards of <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/5167" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Joseph Dirand Architecture (Company)">Joseph Dirand Architecture</a> who is a newcomer to the superyacht industry. <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Article/50299" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Keel of 118m Abeking project 6507 flagship laid in Hamburg (2019-08-29 09:15:00 +0200)">The keel of this new superyacht was laid in August 2019</a> and she will be the flagship of the shipyard until the 120.9-metre superyacht, Project 6514, is launched in 2025. In October <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/44" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Abeking & Rasmussen (Company)">Abeking &amp; Rasmussen</a> released an update on the yacht, including that <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/2548" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Cornelsen & Partner Yacht Consulting GmbH (Company)">Cornelsen &amp; Partner Yacht Consulting</a> have overseen her construction. Project 724 |&nbsp;<a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/1732" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Freire Shipyard (Company)">Freire Shipyard</a>&nbsp;| 112-metreFrom <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/1732" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Freire Shipyard (Company)">Freire Shipyard</a> in Spain comes the 112-metre Project 724&nbsp;an explorer superyacht that features exterior design by <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/2997" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Marin Teknikk AS (Company)">Marin Teknikk</a> alongside British studio <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/17" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Bannenberg & Rowell Design (Company)">Bannenberg &amp; Rowell Design</a>. The yacht's interior has also been designed by <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/17" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Bannenberg & Rowell Design (Company)">Bannenberg &amp; Rowell Design</a>, a studio that is well known for its work on explorer superyachts. Believed to be owned by an American tech entrepreneur, the yacht was rolled out of the shed at <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/64" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Oceanco (Company)">Oceanco</a>’s facility in Zwijndrecht. The hull was built in parts at <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/5453" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Zwijnenburg Shipyard (Company)">Zwijnenburg Shipyard</a> before they were assembled by <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/5453" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Zwijnenburg Shipyard (Company)">Zwijnenburg Shipyard</a> at <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/64" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Oceanco (Company)">Oceanco</a>’s Zwijndrecht shipyard, which Oceanco purchased in 2019. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; <img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/209333/image/large-c973d38c7a5500502d1c62dbf6265a9b.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/209333"><a data-gid="gid://syiq/Article/48585" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Oceanco to build largest ever Dutch superyacht (2018-06-01 15:05:00 +0200)">SuperYacht Times reported on the sale of the yacht in 2018</a> and though few details of the highly secretive project have been unveiled, the yacht is known to be a three masted schooner with a bowsprit. Earlier this week, the new 109-metre <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/64" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Oceanco (Company)">Oceanco</a> <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Article/50326" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="109m Oceanco Y720 arrives ready for next stage of construction (2019-09-04 10:30:00 +0200)">Y720</a> superyacht project currently under construction in the Netherlands was moved from the Dutch builder’s <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Article/49859" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Oceanco acquires additional facilities in the Netherlands (2019-05-03 15:45:00 +0200)">newly acquired shipyard</a> in Zwijndrecht to its outfitting facility in Alblasserdam where the project will be completed by 2021. The final product is said to be characterised by large glass surfaces with the main deck, bridge deck and upper deck all wrapped in full-height glass windows. The new 109-metre Oceanco Y720 made a first appearance this week as she enters her next phase of construction in the Netherlands.

One of the largest yachts to be built in the Netherlands, the 109-metre <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/64" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Oceanco (Company)">Oceanco</a> Y720, has arrived at the Dutch builder’s new shipyard in Zwijndrecht this week. As the first project to undergo construction work at this newly-acquired facility, Y720 will receive an internal layer of paint, installation of heavy-duty equipment and have her superstructure placed before being transported to <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/64" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Oceanco (Company)">Oceanco’s</a> Alblasserdam facility for completion in 2020. The project is being overseen by the owner's representatives <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/4863" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Wright Maritime Group (Company)">Wright Maritime Group</a>. <img src="/uploads/store/photo/96445/image/large-c3032f60d4323083a95504779113100c.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/96445">The new facility was acquired in May 2019 and is located some 10 kilometres down river of the existing main facility. “Intrinsic to&nbsp;<a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/64" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Oceanco (Company)">Oceanco’s</a>&nbsp;vision for increased efficiency, these new facilities will be a hub that will allow numerous co-makers to physically set up offices alongside the construction works, encouraging maximum synergy and co-maker alignment among all parties,”&nbsp;commented the builder. <img src="/uploads/store/photo/76273/image/large-f875bcd8e4a476753503b6866a08d23e.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/76273">The facility will be developed to assist in the steel manufacturing for new build projects and also serve as a maintenance and refit centre for <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/64" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Oceanco (Company)">Oceanco</a>. Future proofing its growth, <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/64" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Oceanco (Company)">Oceanco</a> will also host a superyacht brain park and an educational campus at the new location which will serve as an innovation hub to explore the use of sustainable energy and raw material sources, spurring cost savings and job creations, <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/64" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Oceanco (Company)">Oceanco</a> added. &nbsp;

Earlier this week the Dutch yard Oceanco hosted a group of journalists from all over the world for the annual press tour organised by the HISWA Holland Yachting Group. <img src="/uploads/store/photo/33540/image/large-bd6bc01ce9a3a7eea6aa6019946b3d5c.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/33540">Along Oceanco’s quay was the recently launched 90-metre Luiz de Basto design known as Project Shark (above and underneath). The superyacht recently completed her sea trials and is expected to be delivered soon.&nbsp;<img src="/uploads/store/photo/33592/image/large-94d3d3029a28210cfe791a4219e9f906.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/33592"> Inside Oceanco’s outfitting facilities was the 90-metre Project Yasmin, which is due for delivery in 2019, and designed by Espen Oeino with an interior by Terence Disdale Design. In the large dry dock, the company is currently putting the final touches on the 109-metre Project Bravo (photo underneath), which features a design by Nuvolari Lenard and naval architecture and engineering by the newly formed Lateral Naval Architects.&nbsp;<img src="/uploads/store/photo/5687/image/large-c1ea047d81ff40568dd4e84badd4e671.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/5687">Besides these three projects currently in build at Oceanco in Alblasserdam, the Netherlands, the company also spoke about three more 100-metre plus projects. A 117-metre Espen Oeino designed yacht, a 109-metre yacht by Sinot Exclusive Yacht Design and the largest yacht ever built in the Netherlands with a length of 125 metres. Due to confidentiality agreements, no further details were revealed about the new projects.
