Charter deal of the week: the 44m superyacht Silver Wind 

Thompson Westwood White Yachts has announced the sale of the 43.63-metre ISA superyacht Silver Wind. The seller was represented by Lucrecia Vogogna and Peter Thompson, with David Westwood representing the buyer in the deal.

Constructed in 2014, Silver Wind was Italian shipyard ISA Yachts’ inaugural ISA 140’. Her sleek silver exterior is the product of Andrea Vallicelli. Encompassing a dramatic exterior staircase from the stern to the sundeck, Silver Wind also boasts a large sundeck and a generous beach club with extensive space for making the best of the superyacht lifestyle.

With interiors by Nuvolari &amp; Lenard in collaboration with Valentina Zannier, the light indoor areas create an open environment with panoramic views. Accommodating up to eight guests across four spacious double staterooms, Silver Wind’s interior also includes a dedicated spa area with a balcony connecting to the owner’s suite.

With a hybrid propulsion system, powered by 2 x MTU 16V4000M93L 3440 KW engines, she has a maximum speed of 32 knots and a cruising speed of 26 knots.

At the time of sale, Silver Wind was listed at an asking price of €14,500,000.

When it comes to eco-friendliness and tree-hugging features, the world of superyachting still has a few tricks to learn from more developed industries such as the automotive field. Although not the greenest machines on the water today, many superyacht owners and their crew are making a conscious effort to cut marine pollution and spread the eco-warrior mentality wherever they go. To help celebrate Earth Day, and marine conservation in general, here we take a quick look at some of our favourite yachts that are making our planet’s oceans a safer place for all.

Ethereal

Built by Royal Huisman in 2008, Ethereal is regarded as perhaps the first true hybrid superyacht. Designed for world cruising, Ethereal is equipped with a 400 kWh battery store that can power a tiny village. She operates in stealth mode by using her silent hybrid propulsion system. Perhaps not the most modern-looking sailing yacht, underneath that exterior Ethereal is no ordinary superyacht.

Quinta Essentia

What sets Quinta Essentia apart from other yachts in her size class is the use of an advanced hybrid propulsion system. This involves the integration of the two conventional diesel engines together with two electric motors which are connected to variable speed generators. Guests can now look forward to a silent experience on board knowing that the energy consumed is far cleaner than the surrounding yachts at anchor.

Savannah

Feadship’s 83.5-metre Savannah made headlines back in 2015 for her green propulsion credentials. Praised for her hybrid propulsion characteristics, Savannah is fitted with an innovative single Wärtsilä diesel engine that works in tandem with an electric power plant that drives her azimuting thrusters. This allows her captain to choose between diesel, diesel-electric, or full electric power modes to offer a 30 percent improvement in fuel efficiency.

The 43.6-metre motor yacht Silver Wind is fitted with a hybrid propulsion system developed by Siemens and ISA Yachts. Onboard, two diesel generators supply power to the electric units and can work at variable speed, therefore minimising fuel consumption, the noise, the emissions and the maintenance needs. At electric mode, the total fuel consumption is 90 l/h for a range of 2600 nm. Not only fuel efficient, Silver Wind lives up to her name by delivering a top speed of 32 knots.

Heesen Yachts’ Home’s hybrid credentials come from the two water-cooled DC electric shaft motors that she is fitted with that allows her to cruise at 9 knots using the generators alone. For passages, the captain can opt between two different forms of power: diesel mechanical or diesel electrical. These two systems can also be coupled to and used simultaneously for more flexible power management and increased efficiency.

Aria.S

Although she is equipped with a conventional propulsion system, no other yacht has embraced the solar panel strategy the way Arcadia Yachts’ Aria.S has. The photovoltaic cells on top of the superstructure have become a recognisable element of the Italian yacht builder’s line-up, and Aria.S is no different. These bad boys provide up to 5 kW of power, enough to guarantee self-sufficient energy for much of the equipment and electrical systems such as refrigerators, water circulation, toilettes, lights, A/V and electronics.

Sailing Yacht A

Although still covered under a veil of mystery and speculation, German shipyard Nobiskrug unveiled earlier this year that the industry-challenging 142.8-metre sail-assisted monster hides an advanced hybrid diesel-electric propulsion system beneath that crazy exterior of hers. This comes as no surprise as the yacht is considered one of the most forward-thinking afloat today.

This Italian beauty houses an arsenal of clever batteries supplied by EST technologies in the Netherlands and are the latest development in LiPo (lithium polymer) batteries with a total capacity of 544 kWh. This powerful energy source is more than sufficient to supply the entire hotel system on board Bartali (ex Genesi) as well as the propulsion in what is referred to as ZEM, short for Zero Emission Mode.

Aviva

Abeking &amp; Rasmussen’s new 98-metre Aviva is all about efficiency and she is fitted with power plant to match. Her hull shape is said to deliver a 20% reduction in drag and will offer superior sea keeping capabilities. Aviva is driven by a hybrid propulsion system that allows her to travel at 11 knots without the use of her main engines.

Divine

Columbus Yachts’ 40-metre Divine is equipped with a revolutionary hybrid propulsion system, offering the option to manoeuvre or spend time at anchor under electric power alone, while working in tandem with the diesel motors while underway to dramatically reduce emissions and improve fuel efficiency. All of this means that Divine not only manoeuvres noiselessly in marinas and anchorages but when needed, can reach a top speed of 21 knots.

Our 10 favourite hybrid superyachts on Earth Day

First reported last summer, the future of ISA Yachts has been uncertain for some time. Despite launching a total of four superyachts in 2014 (Okto, Silver Wind, Forever One and Philmi), the Italian shipyard has failed to sign any new contracts since mid-2014, and are speculated to be in approximately €40,000,000 worth of debt.<img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/157747/image/large-feb396a578a7f3be6f11990ed00acb37.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/157668">The business is currently under Chapter 11 procedure, with subsidies for the company’s employees expiring at the end of the month. There may be light on the horizon for the 104 remaining ISA employees, however, and according to reports from a regional Italian publication, Frittelli Maritime Group has shown an interest in the acquisition of the ISA shipyard. The Group’s owner Alberto Rossi is currently carrying out a thorough due diligence process.If Rossi decides to proceed with the acquisition, the final decision will ultimately depend upon the decision of the court and the concession of the yard. Frittelli Maritime Group may acquire ISA Yachts

The 27th edition of the MYBA Charter Show will begin in just a few days time. Hosted in Genoa, the Show focuses on charter professionals and superyachts, as well as featuring a lively social programme with an emphasis on networking opportunities.<img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/153566/image/large-6a1d8d9b4d20971fcdc8d05a9ba4a172.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/148680">A wide range of yachts will be on show, with the smallest yacht in attendance being the 23.99 metre sailing yacht Si Vis Pacem which was built by Southern Wind in 2005 and represented by Edmiston &amp; Company, whilst the largest yacht on show will be the 72 metre Axioma built by Dunya Yachts and represented by Yachting Partners International. Other yachts on show will include the 70 metre Amadeus, the 60 metre Perseus 3, the 43.63 metre Silver Wind, and the 37.30 metre Aurelia.<img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/153567/image/large-11f5dd7baba357f03af3bb2529a96ea3.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/148681">The MYBA Superyacht Chef’s Competition will also be back again this year, with the theme ‘Cannes Film Festival Red Carpet Dinner Party with your Most Decadent Chocolate Dessert.’ The rules state that the participating chefs must serve enough food for six people, and must be served at the allotted time or they will be automatically eliminated. The MYBA Charter Show 2015

Launched last year by ISA, the 43.64 metres superyacht Silver Wind features exterior design by Andrea Vallicelli and interior design by Nuvolari &amp; Lenard. Inkeeping with her italian construction, her audio/video, domotic and entertainment integration from Videoworks, who have installed state-of-the-art technology throughout the vessel.<img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/152448/image/large-72d3101e797c829bcec39bccc16031a1.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/152448">Videowork’s work can be found in all areas of the yacht, including the main salon and owner’s cabin, where products from renowned brands such as B&amp;W and Rotel have been used. The 4K UHD technology in these areas also allows maximum comfort and ease of use. The domotic with light, curtains, air conditioning and entertainment control are easily managed via iPads in all areas of the yacht, and include a fully customised graphic.In regards to the sound system on Silver Wind, Videoworks have installed the Airplay system which allows the user to listen to their favorite playlists as and when desired. Furthermore, the Apple TV installed is both easy and intuitive, and gives access to an important audio-on-demand storage feature within the iTunes library as well as movies on the Kaleidescape library.Though music can of course be controlled with the push of a button, eliminating noise in general can be much more difficult. To counteract noise, Videoworks have installed an innovative Active Noise Cancelling (ANC) system which has been patented by Videoworks in cooperation with DII of the University "Politecnica delle Marche". The ANC system is installed on board inside the cabins around the bed, ensuring minimal disruption to the owner and guests. The ANC works by emitting an acoustic wave identical to that of the noise but with opposite frequency, creating a virtual no-noise bubble that protects from the typical low-frequency noises.Videowork’s final input on board Silver Wind was contributed through the light engineering. The company employed a highly specialised technician from their team with the job, who studied the best lighting scenarios implemented with Lutron systems for the boat which grant electronic control.By Gemma Fottles

Videoworks on board ISA 140’ Silver Wind

SuperYacht Times caught up with Giacomo Massi, System Engineer from Videoworks, at the METS show this morning, who discussed the company, future products, and the importance of being present at METS.<img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/151665/image/large-b34d5147212a7a97345ce03136e0a61b.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/151665">In regards to Videoworks' current projects, the recently launched ISA 140’ Silver Wind, is amongst their most complete. Although Massi insists the ISA 140’ is not the most complicated project the company are capable of, he goes on to explain that the complexity of any project is in the hands of the owner, and what the owner himself wants.He says, “It depends a little bit, but usually our systems are mostly complete, so there is always the control of the entertainment, audio and video by a single device in each area of the boat, and you can control everything.” He continues, “It’s the whole part of what the client wants. He wants something very easy to use, he doesn’t want to push buttons. He wants easy and reliable.”Currently with offices and facilities in several locations in Italy, Massi discussed the goals for the company in the future. With a significant project in China currently in progress, Massi comments on this as well as on the company’s Italian based business. He states, “We are working with all the major companies in Italy and we have consolidated relationships with them. Now we are going abroad. We are trying to expand a little bit, step by step.”In addition to an expansion of location, Videoworks' future product line is also set for expansion, with a new Google Glass System to be introduced with software signed by VideoWorks. Massi comments, “You can control everything by voice, so the crew are able to have free hands.” This system is currently being tested after the team presented it at this year’s Monaco Yacht Show, though Massi states that despite the technological progression, after sale support as well as reliability and integration are still the key factors that make up the business.Currently in Amsterdam at METS, Massi concludes with his thoughts on the event. “It’s a very technical trade show, so it’s important to be here. Our most important competitors are also here, so you must be here, too, to position the brand and to let our clients see the technicians, and we also meet our partners here. METS 2014: Sitting down with Videoworks

Launched by Italian shipyard, ISA Yachts, earlier this year, the 43.63 metre superyacht Silver Wind is the shipyard’s inaugural ISA 140’. The first yacht to be constructed with the combination of water jets and hybrid propulsion as well as one of the first yachts using variable rpm generators, her defining features include very high performance coupled with low consumption.<img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/151263/image/large-f22a3cd3a53210fda4eca140ae1a664a.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/151263">The vessel is a planing composite superyacht with exterior designs by Andrea Vallicelli and interiors by Valentina Zannier in collaboration with Nuvolari &amp; Lenard. She balances light indoor areas with spacious outdoor deck spaces, creating an open environment with an emphasis upon spectacular, panoramic views while ensuring privacy for the guests on board..<img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/151264/image/large-194d12717fc1c86539ca6894442e6729.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/151264">In terms of her interior design, she has a classic yet contemporary feel, with subtle colour schemes which are both sophisticated and welcoming. A combination of timbers have been used such as walnut, high gloss ebony, satin rosewood and bleached walnut. An eye catching feature is how the main materials are mixed, with woods and precious stones like onyx and marbles blended with special decorative elements such as an artglass cascade, mother of pearls trimming and carved metal panels.<img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/151265/image/large-e93566ff7cc5addcfcf161b70626128f.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/151265">Armani Casa and Hermes upholstery contribute to an early 20th century French style, as well as the metal straw marquetry which accompanies the other sophisticated finishes in the main deck. The large salon has different areas where guests can enjoy relaxing, lounging or entertainment. The dining area boasts a custom designed table with a chandelier hanging above and providing an ideal environment for fine dining. Powered by 2 x MTU 16V4000M93L 3440 KW @ 2100 rpm engines, she has a maximum speed of 32 knots and a cruising speed of 26 knots with a traditional propulsion system consisting of two marine diesel engines driving two Rolls-Royce Kamewa waterjets through reduction gear-boxes. The two diesel generators also supply power to the electric users and can work at variable speed, therefore minimising fuel consumption, the noise, the emissions and the maintenance needs. Dependent upon the operation mode of the vessel, the main engines and generators run less hours per year and, when in operation, at higher loads, both of which lead to less required maintenance cost. What is more, the main and auxiliary diesel engines can always operate at its peak efficiency, thus reducing the specific fuel consumption and gas emission. This shall also result in a drastically lower noise level in overall yacht ambient. First superyachts arrive for the Monaco Yacht Show 2014

Launched earlier this year, the inaugural ISA 140 has been completed by ISA Yachts. Named Silver wind, the 43.63 metre superyacht boasts exterior designs by Andrea Vallicelli, with Nuvolari &amp; Lenard responsible for the interior.<img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/150375/image/large-4822b01fc21528636f76368e080951a2.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/150375">The planing composite motor yacht makes the most of generous outdoor deck spaces, creating an open environment that emphasises panoramic sea views while ensuring privacy. This includes an extensive sundeck and cosy beach area with a large swimming platform. She accommodates up to 8 guests in 4 luxurious cabins.One of her stand out features is her fully custom-made bridge, a highly technological pioneering bridge, highly impressive in regards to customisation and integration, as well as her unique hybrid propulsion system developed by Siemens and ISA Yachts. The propulsion system means that Silver Wind can run at the maximum speed of 32 knots and a cruising speed of 26 knots with a “traditional” propulsion system, as well as navigate at a low speed of 8 knots with two main engines off, and the two waterjets powered by the two electric motors connected to the gearbox. ISA Yachts completes 43.63m superyacht Silver Wind

ISA Yachts launch superyacht Silver Wind

ISA has announced the sale of its first ever ISA 140’ (43.63 meters) composite superyacht, which combines high performance with low consumption. Besides a traditional propulsion system, consisting of two marine diesel engines driving two Rolls-Royce Kamewa waterjets through reduction gear-boxes, which allow the yacht to run at the maximum speed of 32 knots and a cruising speed of 26 knots, the new ISA140 is equipped with a hybrid propulsion system supplied by Siemens.<img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/144612/image/large-4d90fdf714c13d05349a04d19e4133e7.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/144612">The hybrid system allows for high speeds with two main engines on, the electric power is generated by the two shaft generator on gearbox. In this mode, the two diesel generators are off.Low speed navigation, at 8 knots, is possible with the two main engines off. The two waterjets are powered by the two electric motors connected to the gearbox. The two diesel generators also supply power to the electric users. The total fuel consumption is 90 l/h for a range of 2600 nm. Consumption drops from 55 l/nm at max yacht speed to 11 l/nm with electric mode on.<img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/144613/image/large-116cfb236e39dde058ec27dbea6dcd33.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/144613">Running the yacht in hydrid mode, also result in a much lower noise level in the interior. It is expected that at 8 knots guests experience the same sound levels as on a sailing yacht. Furthermore, there is a drastically improved redundancy. Should the generator set fail, the two shaft generators will generate electric power. If the main engines fail, the two generators can still power the propellers.<img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/144614/image/large-b652b322783b09c4fbc158f9b323ab3f.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/144614">The composite parts of ISA 140, such as the hull, the deck, the superstructure and the accessories, have been built with vacuum assisted resin infusion (VARTM). The hull of the ISA 140 is one of the largest ones ever made on a single mould. The result is a product with superior features in terms of lightness and stiffness.The yachts exterior is designed by Andrea Vallicelli. Strong diagonal lines run from the sundeck to the stern, mirroring the flair of the distinctive sweeping staircases. With her 5 cabins, the ISA 140 can accommodate 10 guests.
