Their busy season runs from September to May, making it an ideal winter destination for yachts seeking excellent facilities and a welcoming atmosphere.During the tour, we assisted with the welcoming of the <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/112" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Custom Line (Company)">Custom Line</a> Navetta 33 motor yacht Peterson, alongside Sandra, the marina’s Customer Care Representative. Sandra provided the crew with a comprehensive welcome kit, including local contacts, city tourist information, and details on marina facilities and services. She guided them through the process of obtaining necessary stamps for crew members and informed them about local events, such as the fireworks display that week. The captain was delighted by the warm welcome and expressed his appreciation for the thoughtfully prepared welcome kit. (Company)">Astilleros de Mallorca</a> maintenance hub and Nautipaints facility for in-water works. In addition, the marina is ideally situated with the neighbouring facilities of <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/5560" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="PTW Shipyard (Company)">PTW</a> or <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/97" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="MB92 Barcelona (Company)">MB92 Barcelona</a> for larger scale refits, making it a perfect location for a full spectrum of refit activities.&nbsp;For leisure and relaxation, <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/2818" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Port Tarraco (Company)">Port Tarraco</a> offers a variety of amenities that cater to all tastes. Crew members can enjoy a free gym with stunning marina views, and the marina hosts six diverse restaurants, including Italian, Spanish, and Asian cuisine. Dining at one of the marina’s top-notch restaurants was a highlight, where we enjoyed delicious tapas accompanied by breathtaking views of the marina. Additional facilities include pubs, a children's area, a parking space, beauty salon, an amphitheatre for shows and markets and approximately 20 storage units, each around 21 square-metres, providing ample space for yachts to store things during their stay. The presence of an immigration office nearby simplifies the process for non-EU crew members, making it more convenient for them to obtain the necessary stamps. In general, it lacks nothing. It can accommodate boats from 45 metres to 140 metres comfortably. The facilities around the marina as well as the new security measures make the stay even more enjoyable. The staff of the marina are always happy, available and always helpful. Almost in the centre of the city with easy access to all points as well as the transition to and from the airport make the stay of a boat even more enjoyable. We sat down with the general manager, Marc Colls, to understand the functioning of the unique underwater bubble barrier. This system maintains water quality and prevents contamination within the marina by releasing a continuous stream of bubbles from the bottom, creating an upward current that blocks debris and pollutants, such as oil, from entering the marina. One of the key benefits of this bubble barrier is its dual functionality. In addition to physically blocking waste, it oxygenates the water, which helps maintain a healthy marine environment by reducing debris accumulation and improving water quality. The 114.2-metre superyacht Project Cosmos has been technically launched from <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/23" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Lürssen Yachts (Company)">Lürssen</a>’s facility in Rendsburg, Germany. This is the first time we’ve seen the superyacht, otherwise known as Project 13759. Moran Yacht &amp; Ship is, without a doubt, one of the most successful superyacht brokerage firms in the world. Headed by Robert Moran, the man still very much at the helm opened the brand’s doors in Fort Lauderdale in 1988 after 18 years of exploring the Seven Seas as a superyacht captain, the hands on experience of which Moran strongly insists is at the core of the company’s continuous success in selling and building some of the world’s most iconic vessels.

Today, Moran’s sales record speaks for itself. However, success does not often come without criticism, and for many in the industry, Moran Yacht &amp; Ship is certainly perceived as one of the most boldly aggressive. This perception is founded in an element of truth, but perhaps a little misguided. Moran is an astute businessman who is seriously passionate about the superyacht industry. The aggression that people may perceive stems from being one of the best, knowing it, and consequently becoming increasingly frustrated with others who give the industry a bad name and, in short, throw away potential opportunity. Robert Moran is focused on the bigger picture: the longevity of the industry.

“I don’t think that we’re aggressive,” Moran states as I pose this reputation to him. “I just think that we’re not shy about telling people of our attributes. I mean, we’ve sold 22 Lürssen’s in 17 years, 50% of their production. That’s quite an achievement. A lot of these other companies have a lot of employees who are ex-insurance salesman. Now, there’s nothing wrong with insurance salesman, or attorneys or stock brokers, but they didn’t work in the marine industry. And all of a sudden they work for two years in the yachting industry and they’re experts? That doesn’t work for me.”

His ballsy, no-nonsense attitude is not limited to his peers and competitors, however. He’s also a staunch believer of shirking the typical ‘yes-man’ treatment of clients. “Most guys in the business think they have to shower these people with platitudes,” he says, “but we don’t do that.” Of course it could be a different story in reality, but from our meeting in the US yachting hub of Palm Beach, it’s probably safe to say that his anti-baloney attitude is very much present within every element of his life. Here Moran tells us the brands’ story in his own words.

As a brand you talk a lot about being different to other brokerage firms. What specifically sets you apart from your competition?

I think what sets Moran Yacht &amp; Ship apart from a lot of our competitors is that we’re a really tight knit group made up of a lot of people who have worked on yachts. When it comes to selling large yachts, you have to really know what you’re talking about and it takes a long while to get that experience. On top of that, we build. The necessary experience for selling these boats can only be gathered by being involved with projects and actually building boats. If I was a potential yacht buyer I wouldn’t go to a brokerage company that didn’t have the experience of building at least 10 yachts.

What’s the secret to creating fruitful relationships with your clients?

I find the best way is to be yourself and to be honest. Don’t be false, you don’t need to kiss their backside or butter them up. Just be yourself. People recognise that. They recognise your talents and they respect that. I’ll tell you something else; we have the lousiest offices in the yachting world. I do not need palatial offices in central London or any of that. If I’m going to spend money, I’m not going to spend it on flashy baloney. It doesn’t make sense. A lot of our clients walk into our offices and see the projects on the wall, everybody working hard… I mean, we have captains of industry in our office who are genuinely impressed. They like that it is a working office. I’ve been into offices where they have stewards in dickie bows serving drinks and canapes. Now that’s baloney.

You have five offices located in strategic yachting spots around the world, with your head office centred in Fort Lauderdale. Are you looking to expand further?

We’ve had an office in Monaco for around six years and we’ve just expanded that to a significantly larger office. We’re quite frugal, we don’t throw our money away. I haven’t got the ego where I need to have three secretaries and someone to answer my telephone calls and to send all my emails - I can do that myself. We are a very profitable company because we watch our costs and watch our expenses.

You’ve mentioned that Moran Yacht &amp; Ship has sold around 50% of Lürssen’s production. How did your relationship with the yard begin?

We deal with a lot of shipyards - right now we’re building a boat with Hakvoort, Oceanco, Lürssen, we’ve just done a boat in Italy with Mangusta, we’re building a boat with Sanlorenzo… so we’re not necessarily ‘stuck’ with just one or two shipyards. But Lürssen up until 1993 or 1994 had only built around seven yachts. They decided in the late 90s to get into the yacht building business. I remember meeting with Peter Lürssen and Michael Bremen, and I told Peter we have a client who wants to build a 60-metre yacht. He said to me, ‘Well, if you bring me two clients, I’ll build them.’ We brought him two: Capri and Phoenix, and we went from there.

Speaking of Lürssen projects, the 74-metre Aurora (previously known as Thor and first announced in 2014) was recently launched from the yard’s facilities in Germany. What stands out to you in regards to that project?

She’s just a great boat. She’s 74-metres and she has a GRT of almost 2300, which is just a massive volume. She has some wonderful features, eight cabins, 10-metre tenders, a huge spa, gymnasiums - everything - but she is just a really lovely, quality boat. She is a boat that is going to be sailing around for 50 years, and she’ll still look great in 50 years.

<div>I was there with some of the guys at the launch and - just a silly thing - when you walk up the stairs from the aft deck, the owner said he wanted a nice, relaxing seat, sort of a pedestal area. I thought that was mad. When the owner walked on for the very first time, the first thing he did with his wife is sit on this seat. On itself it wasn’t a big thing, but it struck me that something as small as that made a difference to the owner - the first thing he did on the boat was to sit in this spot and say, “I really like this.”</div>

You also just sold the 85.1-metre Lürssen superyacht Solandge at the end of March after 10 months on the market with Moran. Tell us about the deal.

We originally sold Solandge in 2008 to the owner who just sold the boat recently. A lovely boat with beautiful features. She had been on the market prior to being listed with Moran Yacht &amp; Ship with another brokerage company for 18 months, so it’s quite an achievement to have a boat of that magnitude for just 10 months and we got the job done. We don’t just like to list boats, we like to sell boats. Too many company’s reason to be is just to get the listing on the boat - somebody else sells it, they get a piece of the action. We want to list them, sell them, do it all.

Does the company typically attract quite experienced clients?

Not necessarily, but I much prefer to deal with clients who have got some experience in yachting - they really understand us. They really get Moran Yacht &amp; Ship. They know what we bring to the party. Unfortunately, I see so many guys coming to boat shows who, to their credit, have worked hard and made a fortune, but they they walk around and they have no idea. When a broker they approach knows just a tiny bit more than them, that broker then becomes the ‘expert’. That’s not good.

Tell us about your most memorable project over the years.

That’s a tough one. We built the 87-metre Ace a few years ago for a great guy. Now when we were designing the boat he told me that he wanted to have his gymnasium right on the aft deck. I told him that’s a bad idea… that’s not what you’re supposed to do. He told me that he wanted it and it’s his boat. He built the boat for himself, and I thought that was great.

A lot of yachts are cookie-cutter boats… basically. So I like it when you first see it and you say to yourself, ‘That is really nuts.’ Then you see it again and you begin to realise that it’s really, really cool.

Tell us a little about what you’ve got going on right now.

We’re not really allowed to talk about many of the things that we’ve got going on… So right now we’re building eight yachts, all of which are currently under construction, we’re looking to sign hopefully another three this year. Every year for the past 20 years, we’ve delivered one or two yachts. Everyone in the business thinks that we can’t possibly be building all these big boats, and every year they keep on coming out. So we’re going to do the same thing this year. Next will be Solar, then next year there will be two boats, three in 2019… so we’ve got a good pipeline of boats. I believe success breeds success, and hopefully the smart guys will come to us because they know that our record speaks for itself.

The 31st Palm Beach International Boat Show kicks off this Thursday, 17th March and will run untill Sunday 20th March. Over $1.2 billion worth of yachts is expected to be on display during the event that is set to take place in downtown Palm Beach Florida.

Lürssen 85m superyacht Solandge in Monaco 

As the official superyacht Data &amp; Intelligence media partner, SuperYacht iQ, the new intelligence division of SuperYacht Company, has analysed the 121 exhibting superyachts that will be on display at the Monaco Yacht Show later this week.<img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/156250/image/large-5f94c953ba2d890c132ff17347e20147.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/156250">Of the 121 yachts present, 104 are motor yachts, with 17 sailing yachts. The total length of all yachts on display is 5.7 kilometres with an average length of 47 metres. The yachts have been built in no less than 16 different countries by 68 different shipyards.Lürssen’s 85.10m superyacht Solandge will again be the largest yacht on display at this year’s show, followed closely by the 81.80m Romea, delivered by Abeking &amp; Rasmussen earlier this year. The newly launched 43.13m Sea Eagle by Royal Huisman will be on display with the largest sailboat at the show, the 57.49m Twizzle, also built by the Dutch shipyard.The total value of all the yachts on display this year is € 3 billion, with an average value of € 25 million per yacht. If we compare the motor yachts to the sailing yachts; the average length of a motor yacht attending the show is 48 metres, while sailing yachts have an average length of 39 metres. The owner of the 85 metre Lürssen Solandge upgraded from a 63 metre Lürssen yacht, and has many years experience owning and chartering different types of yachts. The 90.02 metre Lürssen built Phoenix 2 was launched in 2010, and has been designed by Andrew Winch Designs. The owner's previous yacht was a 60 metre superyacht Phoenix (now Aurora) that was launched by Lürssen in 2004. The 85 metre Pacific was launched in July 2010, and has unique exterior styling by the Argentinean design studio of German Frers. The impressive 85.10 metre Lürssen superyacht, Solandge, is a family yacht built for pleasure. Delivered in October 2013, great care has been taken to ensure her establishment in the charter market of a truly iconic yacht.<img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/148800/image/large-e6ac5b1abd4781f7e18307cc51821ec0.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/148800">The owner, who upgraded from a 63 metre Lürssen yacht, has many years experience owning and chartering different types of yachts. The team put together to embody his vision of his new superyacht consisted of Richard Masters, the owner's project manager, exterior designer Espen Oeino, interior designer Aileen Rodriguez and the project team of Lürssen.Espen Oeino has created harmonious proportions and, with a length of 85.10 metres and a beam of 13.80 metres, she boasts extraordinary volumes. Accommodating all of the owner's requirements, she still maintains sleek and very elegant lines, which are underlined by her dark blue hull.<img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/148801/image/large-93ec4d098514c838140e20fb2ac1448a.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/148801">Aileen Rodeiguez’s interior has classical touches with a contemporary backdrop, making it a transitional interior. The unique mix of rare and striking materials gives the yacht its ultimate look and luxurious style. When entering Solandge through the main entrance, attention is immediately captured by the golden "Tree of Life" – a lighted sculpture where more than 1,200 dazzling points of light. The elevator provides access to all decks from the tank deck to the bridge. Aft of the foyer, guests enter the main salon directly. The main salon onboard Solandge is one large area where the main dining table, seating up to twelve guests, is located in the middle of the salon. Back-lit amethyst walls flank the main salon as they greet you with a Bechstein piano on one side and a Venetian mirror and console on the other. The main salon offers enormous space for the guests with a range of comfortable couches and chairs in purple and gold colours. The VIP suite can be converted into two cabins rather than one large suite and both the VIP suite and the two guest suites offer double beds. The additional two guest suites offer twin beds which can also be converted into king-size beds. The lounge offers seating and relaxation areas with a large television screen. The clients love colour and were not afraid to let the designer experiment with it. The metal bronze details which flank the bookcases as well as the ceiling soffits have a slight green patina to them.<img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/148816/image/large-dcd68af98688b2b113d3476d7483a598.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/148816">The outside aft deck offers extra large spaces and different areas. On the one hand, it is the favourite exterior dining place, offering a large main table for up to 14 guests and six guests at a smaller table. The sides of the aft deck can be closed with glass panels much like a winter garden. In addition, the aft deck is very inviting with its large seating area for relaxation. A large area is reserved for the gym and spa, which includes a beauty and massage room as well as a hammam. The massage room is a serene and relaxing area found on the bridge deck, which is also flanked by a beauty salon, sauna, steam room, shower, gym and special hydrotherapy tub room for exclusive treatments.<img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/148820/image/large-e573e90e69009c999f46c5c3c04a7803.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/148820">The outside aft deck hosts a large 6 metre pool with jet flow, surrounded by comfortable sun beds, seating areas and a bar. A very well designed shower has been incorporated into the handrail of the pool for guest use. Stairways on starboard lead to the top deck, which functions during the day as a sun deck and at night converts into a party deck. During the day, it is the perfect place for relaxation. Forward is a Jacuzzi surrounded by large lounges, a bar amidships with two televisions, and a wonderful sunbed pavilion aft. At night, the Jacuzzi can be converted into a dance floor and a multitude of party lights make this deck the perfect place to celebrate. There is a specially built-in DJ console and a large screen for music videos or game viewing. The crew mess, including a separate first officer and security cabin, and the galley are located on the lower deck. Aft of the lower deck is the upper engine room as well as the enormous tender garage, which hosts two tenders: one NAIAD Inflatable Rib Centre Console Tender at 10.5 metres and one Centurion Enzo Wake Boarding Tender at 7.32 metres. Both can be launched sideways through the shell doors. This area is also equipped with a pantry for drinks and snacks. Leaving towards the aft through the stern door, you enter a bathing area with an enormously sized fold-out bathing stair which can also be used as a pick-up point forThe tank deck hosts another crew lounge and a cinema. A suitably sized and perfectly laid-out laundry and fridge and freezer room can be found on the tank deck as well. The cinema is equipped for the guests' viewing pleasure and is furnished with automatic seats that recline at the push of a button. This deck also has a day head for guest use and a bar cabinet.The engine room is the heart of the yacht and a masterpiece of Lürssen engineering, with polished stainless steel applications. Powered by 2 CAT engines of 2,000 kW each, she reaches a top speed of 17 knots and has a range of 6,000 nautical miles from her 220,000 litre fuel tanks.<img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/148826/image/large-ea2fd1f0bd42679c4afb41d07d13ff77.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/148826">Elastically mounted equipment ensures that the yacht runs extremely quietly, and zero-speed fin stabilisers reduce wave-generated motions when at anchor. To keep emissions low, the generator's exhaust system is equipped with HUG particle filters and soot burners which are fully compliant with the current IMO air pollution requirements. The system provides excellent fuel efficiency, as heat is not generated electrically but directly by burning spare fuel, thus demanding less generator capacity.The beauty and grandeur of Solandge is undeniable, and has successfully met the expectations of the owner. Lürssen superyacht project Solandge on sea trials

Lürssen has commented on the successful launching and unveiling of project Niki, which will soon be named "Solandge". Yacht building means team-work and to execute such a big project, an excellent team is necessary. Celebrations were alive at the Lürssen Shipyard in Rendsburg this morning as all those involved with Project Niki saw the anticipated launch and unveiling of M.Y. Solandge. The 62nd largest yacht in the world, boasting 85.10m, M.Y. On the 17th January 2012 Lürssen launched superyacht project Niki in the traditional fashion: down the slipway. Her delivery is scheduled for summer 2013.
