The 40m Heesen superyacht Galatea was recently sold whereby Camper &amp; Nicholsons International represented the seller and the buyer being represented by Jonathan Zwaans of Y.CO. This was the first time the yacht has changed hands since her launch in 2014.<img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/156707/image/large-60037c7d73fffd0a4c5af5153884ba22.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/156707">Galatea is the first yacht in Heesen’s sportster series, and features advanced alumimium hull technology. Heesen's Galatea underway

The 40 metre superyacht Galatea was launched by the renowned Dutch shipyard, Heesen Yachts, in January of 2014 and is the very first of her kind. Designed as part of the shipyard’s 4000 series Sportster, she boasts advanced aluminium hull technology and is an evolution of the successful Heesen 3700 series, of which ten have already been built. She boasts interior and exterior designs by Frank Laupman of Omega Architects, whilst her naval architecture is by Heesen in co-operation with Van Oossanen Naval Architects.<img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/152272/image/large-c6ff8e728c8a245164281081e3feb813.jpeg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/152272">Inside, she has an exceptional interior volume thanks to her 8 metre beam. A modern, elegant interior design that makes for idea ocean living is present throughout all areas, with a selection of fine woods being incorporated, including Macassar ebony, stained sycamore and dark walnut. This lounge follows the same elegant, sophisticated design as her accommodation, and is filled with comfortable seating such as large, light brown leather sofas and sumptuous cream armchairs.<img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/152281/image/large-871888715402464c0a4f56e96701acfa.jpeg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/152281">Flooding the area with natural light, large windows surround this area, whilst the doors in the dining area also offer guests the option to dine inside while enjoying fresh air and fantastic panoramic views when the doors are opened.<img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/152282/image/large-5094a83eece11447748cfcb1dd1341c1.jpeg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/152282">Her outside deck space is equally as impressive as her voluminous living areas, and she comes in an open flybridge layout. Galatea boasts a total of three separate outdoor spaces totalling 85 square meters in total, and are the ideal settings for entertaining, sunbathing, relaxing and fully enjoying the best of the outdoors. The first of these areas is the impressive sun deck, which can either be open, but also comes with the option for a hard top sun deck with roof and glass side doors. The massive foredeck sun pad is the perfect way to wile away the day, whilst the shaded aft deck dining terrace provides guests with the opportunity to enjoy the very best of al fresco dining. Bespoke teak furniture, including a built-in teppanyaki grill, completes this upper deck area.<img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/152283/image/large-bea1e6fc3366fb620892cea74424a4c8.jpeg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/152283">Despite her luxurious interiors including marble bathrooms, one of Galatea’s most exciting characteristics is her speed. She is currently the fastest Dutch built sportster. Powered by twin 3,800 HP MTU diesel engines, she boasts a top speed of over 28 knots whilst at 12 knots she has a range of 2,200 nm. When undertaking her sea trials in Hellevoetsluis in the Netherlands in March of this year, she actually achieved the impressive speed of 29.7 knots: 2.2 knots above the contractual speed.<img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/152284/image/large-eff43d81a50965c92517e5e22ebab510.jpeg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/152284">Performance and comfort go hand in hand on Galatea, with high-end technical engineering matched with floating floors that minimise sound and vibration, offering unparalleled silence for a yacht with such impressive performance characteristics. Superyacht of the week, Heesen's 40 metre Galatea

Powered by twin 3,800 HP MTU engines and equipped with gyro stabilisers, Galatea is the first in a new breed of Heesen superyachts. She derives from the very successful 37 metre class, of which 10 have been built. During sea trials, Galatea achieved the impressive speed of 29.7 knots. Heesen Galatea completes sea trials and exceeds contractual speed

On January 17th, during a private ceremony at the shipyard facility in Oss, YN 15640, the first 40 metre Heesen ‘sportster’, was launched and christened M/Y Galatea. She is the true incarnation of Heesen DNA; with advanced aluminium hull technology, powerful performance, uncompromising interior design and peerless Dutch construction standards. M/Y Galatea has the optimum balance of comfort and power: she may have marble bathrooms among her luxurious interior design features, but she’s still capable of 27,5 knots.<img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/147251/image/large-fb43856de26a1b80305f510a244a5e30.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/147251">M/Y Galatea has been built for private use, with a requirement that the sun deck had maximum space for relaxing and dining. Her open flybridge layout gives a huge 85 square metres of deck space that includes a helm station and a shaded dining area that is protected even underway by glass side panels. Bespoke teak furniture, including a built-in teppanyaki grill, completes this upper deck. Inside, the 10 metre long saloon includes a large square lounge and a dining area aft adjacent to full-height glazed doors. With the doors open, guests can dine inside while enjoying fresh air and panoramic views. Heesen Yachts announced that last December the hull and superstructure of the revolutionary 65m FDHF were joined together. The construction of the hull and superstructure of YN 16465 started in December 2011 at the facility in Oss, and marked the culmination of years of meticulous planning. <img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/137919/image/large-0ba2c1e7e97fa91102fcdd34a078cb4a.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/137919">Frank Laupman, from Omega Architects, who are responsible for the exterior design, was delighted: “Being able to see the joining of the hull and superstructure is a great thing for me - who drew the first sketch that was just some 40cm long. Today I can finally see that the lines I sketched on paper more than two years ago, work in reality.” The revolutionary Fast Displacement Hull Form (FDHF) was developed by Van Oossanen and Associates and Perry van Oossanen was very keen to see the results of their work: “It is always exciting to see a project materialize. However, on a project like this, of this size, with so much effort put in the development prior to construction, it is three times the excitement. To see the high level of quality Heesen has put in the hull construction, and it being combined with the superstructure for the first time, is very thrilling.” <img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/137920/image/large-b840d4b04ee65c42b015570600714a46.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/132483">The FDHF uses innovative techniques in the construction of its decks, bulkheads and part of the superstructure plating. 300mm wide extruded aluminium plates are welded together using a ‘friction-stir’ technique to form huge plates 2,5 metres by 12 metres in size. Essentially this means the plates are welded together without adding welding material: this method, developed by NASA, has the enormous benefit of creating less heat during the welding process. The result is a large plate with uniform mechanical properties and much fairer and smoother construction. As ever, the famously high quality Heesen building process begins at the very first rung of construction. <img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/137921/image/large-2a900a5de0f0a37180e80bc3e244e211.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/133882">Dickie Bannenberg of Bannenberg and Rowell Design, responsible for the interior design of YN 16465 comments: “Looking at the metal work you can sense the precision at the yard and see the result of immaculate teamwork. Even sitting in the water in bare metal, the yacht exudes speed and intent. We can’t wait for our interior to go in.” When combined with sophisticated naval architecture, the improved construction techniques result in a vessel that is 30% more efficient than a round-bilge motor yacht. This vessel’s advanced design combining a narrow beam with a specific hull form results in a very low wave profile over the entire speed range, while also improving its sea-keeping and manoeuvrability. This provides a very positive impact on the cost of running the yacht, as well as the lowering of its environmental footprint due to reduced engine emissions. Fabio Ermetto, Sales and Marketing Director at Heesen Yachts sums up the project: “Heesen Yachts is well known in the yachting industry for being a shipyard that likes challenges. We are proud to be the first shipyard to build a yacht featuring this innovative hull configuration, the Fast Displacement Hull Form by Van Oossanen, which is the perfect platform for creating a new luxury yacht in which increased performance and reduced environmental impact begin with the hull design. It is very exciting, one year after the keel laying ceremony, to see that the project is taking shape!” YN 16465 is now in the outfitting stage in the enlarged and renewed dry dock in shed no. 5 at the Heesen facility in Oss, the Netherlands. Hull and superstructure of Heesen 65m FDHF now joined together

After the great success of its 3700 series, Heesen Yachts is now introducing a series of 40 metre semi-custom yachts; the 4000 series. Heesen is the first yacht builder to launch a series of fast luxury yachts of such a length. <img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/125621/image/large-206dc075245f699d79fabebc653e921c.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/125621">More space “On our new 4000 series, clients can enjoy three more metres of passion, performance and perfection”, says Nancy Jansen of Heesen, referring to the company’s new slogan. Space on board is further increased by using seawater cooling units in the engine room, enabling the size of the ventilation trunks in the salon to be reduced. The 3700’s tender garage area, including the large transom door which functions as a swim platform, has not been changed. The galley on the main deck, however, is larger than it used to be. Greater interior flexibility The 4000 series’ interior is not only larger, but also more flexible than the 3700’s, with three pre-designed guest cabin arrangements. As for the owner’s cabin, clients can choose between a walk-in wardrobe or maximum cabin space. For the crew’s quarters, which were also enlarged, there is a choice between four crew cabins for seven members or three cabins for six crew members plus a laundry. Two engine options The 4000 series comes with two engine options: 2 MTU 16V4000M90 engines, delivering 2,720 kW each, which enables a maximum speed of approx. 30 knots. Or 2 MTU 16V4000M93L engines, delivering 3,440 kW each, enabling a maximum speed of approx. 33 knots. Optional equipment The 4000 series can be delivered with a range of optional equipment, for which the foundations are already integrated in the yacht’s construction. These options include stability at anchor system for additional comfort, a rescue boat arrangement on the flybridge deck for full compliance with the large commercial yacht code (LY2), and a stern thruster for increased manoeuvrability.
