2023 St Barths Bucket Regatta yachts

The entry list for the 2023 St Barths Bucket  has been announced, with 26 yachts racing.

The Huisfit team at Dutch shipyard <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/122" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Royal Huisman Shipyard BV (Company)">Royal Huisman</a> have successfully redelivered their 47.65-metre sailing yacht <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/4241" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Wisp47.65m (156'4&quot;)Royal Huisman Shipyard BV2014">Wisp</a>, following a refit to return her to turnkey condition. The refit, which began in October 2020, after the sloop arrived at the shipyard’s non-tidal, deep water location in Amsterdam, included the overall of her mechanical parts and a full paint job. <img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/185959/image/large-1174433d3c12a5bad5d1518455791f53.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/185959">The refit was overseen by Nigel Ingram of <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/742" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="MCM (Company)">MCM Newport</a>, together with Captain Richard Humphreys representing the owner. In addition to her fresh repaint, she underwent antifouling, realignment of her propulsion line, a full interior and exterior varnish, and maintenance to her sail handling systems, among other upgrades.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/185957/image/large-8f370d7dab7a2ffe81543d9139113d28.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/185957">Nigel Ingram commented, “Following this refit-project by the Huisfit team, <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/4241" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Wisp47.65m (156'4&quot;)Royal Huisman Shipyard BV2014">Wisp</a> is again ‘perfect’ and ‘as new’. The full scope of work was executed – in spite of Covid-19 restrictions – as planned and delivered within the agreed budget. Dutch shipyard Royal Huisman have redelivered their sailing yacht, Wisp, following a refit, leaving her in turnkey condition.

Yesterday was the third day of racing at the world’s most prestigious regatta in St Barths as the 23-strong superyacht fleet set off on a 22-25 nm course littered with several natural turning marks on the western side of the Caribbean island. Sailing in a separate fleet, yesterday was also the fourth of five races for the J Class sailors. Racing action from St Barths Bucket 2018 Day 3

The 2018 edition of the St Barths Bucket kicked off on Thursday, where some of the world’s fastest, coolest sailing superyachts spent the day preparing for three days of Caribbean racing. <img src="/uploads/store/photo/29065/image/large-33de7e127e6a50d44f2668903b930c40.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/29065"><img src="/uploads/store/photo/29071/image/large-f5bc64ac49f4cadf4fa01071b9c05783.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/29071">Day 2 of the event saw the first race day for the pursuit class after Day 1 was reserved for two J Class races which saw Svea walk away with the day's win followed closely by Topaz and Valsheda. In Pictures: Day 2 at the St Barths Bucket 2018

After two days of tight racing action in St Barths, the final race put race crews to the test in a sprint around the island with the hope of separating the close leader board positions.

When the 38-strong fleet crossed the line on Sunday, it was WinWin, Spiip, Wisp, Rosehearty and Koo that claimed top spots in each of their respective classes in the Pursuit Class races. The fleet of J Class yachts enjoyed five races in this year’s Bucket and it was Hanuman, the 42-metre Royal Huisman sailing yacht, that proved faster than any of her sisters.

During an awards ceremony back at the yacht club that evening each of the winning owners celebrated with their crews. The ultimate prize, the famous Bucket Trophy, was handed over to the owner of Spiip who also claimed victory in Les Elegantes des Mers class.

Final scenes: St Barths Bucket 2017 wrap-up

The term Sunday Showdown lived up to its name yesterday, on the final race day of the 2016 St Barths Bucket Regatta. A large swell and strong breeze made for some exciting race conditions as the impressive fleet ranging from fast high speed to large performance cruisers circled the island on the longest stage of the regatta. The Breed Media team captured these stunning images yesterday.

 

The new Vitters sailing yacht Unfurled made up for her disappointing fourth place finish in Saturday, to not only cross the line first in the final race, but came out on top in Class A, ahead of Nilaya and Visione. Out of the big ladies, it was the regatta-ready Rosehearty that proved to be the fastest across the three days of racing in Class E, outrunning Ohana and Seahawk.

Having fallen behind Ganesha on day one, the regatta regular Perini P2 claimed top spots in the two final races, earning her the overall the victory in the competitive Class B, with Wisp finishing in third overall.

The 2015 edition of the prestigious World Superyacht Awards returned to Amsterdam, the Netherlands on 9th May for a glamorous evening spent rewarding the best superyachts of the past year in a total of 18 categories. Naval architecture is by Farr Yacht Design, with Nauta Yachts undertaking both her interior and exterior design.Legacy Award: Lord Irvine Laidlaw - Lord Irvine Laidlaw is a Scottish businessman who was a former member of the House of Lords. The Legacy Award honours an individual who has made an outstanding contribution to the superyacht industry over many years.<img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/154110/image/large-2a60abceded1ef1eafe93aae36dbc89d.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/137085">Voyager’s Award: Arctic P - Built by the German shipyard Schichau Unterweser in 1969, the 87.58 metre Arctic P features exterior design by Kusch Yachts. Winners of the World Superyacht Awards

Built in 2014 by the Dutch shipyard Royal Huisman, the 47.65 metre classic sloop Wisp made her maiden voyage to the spectacular fjords of Norway shortly after her delivery last year before carrying on to the Western Mediterranean, where she remained for most of the last summer season. She boasts naval architecture and exterior design by fellow Dutch company, Hoek Design Naval Architects, whilst her interior design was undertaken by Rhoades Young Design. <img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/153007/image/large-daf34cd38b491ed7fcda0d761ccd8684.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/153007">She is constructed entirely in aluminium, and boasts a performance that belies her traditional lines. The brief given to the shipyard noted the importance of the ultimate comfort whilst cruising whilst also being more than capable of competing in a spot of ‘gentleman’s racing’ from time to time. Commenting on the successful fulfillment of the challenging brief, Royal Huisman states that these demands were catered to - with a little help from the owner. Explaining further, Royal Huisman says, “The client whilst satisfied to cruise at a leisurely pace, was looking for a decent turn of speed without sailing on the edge. Moreover, as he plans to make long passages he expected the same high level of comfort – both inside and on deck – he had enjoyed on various yachts; and with meticulous attention to detail, he was involved in every aspect of the design and construction of what has become his ‘home away from home’.”<img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/153008/image/large-ae435c0fb6fadb42ba4568c4fbe1c265.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/153008"> <img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/153009/image/large-105034ddddaad09bb61aff6e4e45210b.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/153009">In terms of hull design, the Hoek Design team has revitalised the style and grace of the classic sailing yachts of yesteryear, whilst paying homage to the needs of today’s modern lifestyle on board. Several features developed by the team, such as the owner’s aft cockpit, provide a degree of privacy and amenity. Although not typical of the original design period, they help to marry echoes from the past with a thoroughly modern list of creature comforts for today’s expectant guest. The Dutch firm of naval architects was tasked with developing a yacht that would sail very well without excessive heel; hence Wisp’s added form stability, Alustar aluminium hull and spoon bow for a gentler ride.<img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/153010/image/large-06a28f53ab3d396a4d52df3cf79cf8f9.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/153010">Her cutter rig, moderate draft underbody, carbon composite spars from Rondal, EC6 and Carbo-Link hybrid rigging and efficient sail handling systems are all enhanced for performance, seaworthiness and ease of handling. The cutter-rig sailplan was designed for balance and simple handling while cruising and the possibility of using overlapping genoas for racing, with much thought going into the track positioning and winch sizes to handle the increased loads and speeds during regattas.<img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/153011/image/large-a06f1103001a489600332da6252de319.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/153011"> <img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/153012/image/large-0ed36d2a55d73b66f627974b8d61a04f.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/153012"><img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/153013/image/large-f8f22653dff1877faf97e45fe2d0692c.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/153013">In regards to her deck areas, ample space has been freed up by placing the Rondal winches for the main halyard, mainsheet and preventer below deck in a separate compartment adjoining the engine room, which can still be quickly accessed from the forward engine room entrance and monitored via CCTV cameras. To ensure the 6.2 metre owner’s tender blends in with the sweeping sheer of the hull, it is partially recessed into a pocket on the foredeck.<img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/153014/image/large-d62fabc86676dc9cc5b0e29ad86248ed.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/153014">Another notable deck feature is the crew cockpit just forward of the main mast. With a convertible car-style retractable dodger, protective coamings, storage and direct access below deck to the dinette, it provides a secure assembly point within easy reach of the deck equipment while under sail and a relaxing social area when at anchor.<img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/153015/image/large-0befbb2b7a6ca569b845684580419e81.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/153015"><img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/153016/image/large-a73f5a1fae6de2e027d8afc6f6c7b8bf.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/153016"> <img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/153017/image/large-d02e039df3601edff88a54208f94f8ac.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/153017">Moving on to her interiors, she showcases a clean and contemporary layout throughout, with a brief from the owner for a light, airy and calming ambiance in which to travel the world. To achieve this environment, designers at Rhoades Young Design selected a light oak as the principal material on board that had been stained a soft amber.<img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/153018/image/large-b44e9b188e7ea90563a7d25e723929f0.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/153018"> <img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/153019/image/large-ab6d11a41a4ee2f8dc6b9616e7049865.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/153019">This neutral background is contrasted with dark wenge inlays and fabrics of the highest quality in courageous colours that range from fresh, leafy greens to rich, duck egg blues and burnt oranges, punctuated with brightly coloured table lamps that have been converted from Murano glass vases. Beautiful handmade carpeting provides the casual charm of Japanese Tatami matting with a softness that only pure wool can achieve.<img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/153020/image/large-15e356e2dd04feacaa12bd7a2bb70adf.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/153020">Jonathan Rhoades from the British interior design studio comments on the “From an architectural point of view, we created an unusual open-plan interior layout that is designed in layers to reveal itself gradually. Below deck you are lead from space to space and at each destination the rooms feel resolved and complete. It is only on exploring further that you realise they open onto other spaces, until finally all the layers are peeled back to reveal salons and cabins with huge sightlines through the various deck levels linking the interior and exterior.”<img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/153021/image/large-5b062ed48ae497ffa6c39cd39eed57d0.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/153021">Providing accommodation for up to eight guests in total, all three en-suite guest cabins are impressively commodious, whilst the owner’s suite is every bit as grand as you could expect. The full-beam cabin has various Japanese shoji screens to bring in a gentle, suffused light into the room. Sliding aside the double doors on the portside reveals a generous bathroom with basins and bath of light green Costa Smeralda marble.<img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/153022/image/large-666591e96e47c5fb5afa58616be54368.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/153022"> <img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/153023/image/large-47cee5bbad93fdc280cd1a4288453a8f.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/153023"><img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/153024/image/large-74d087fe532f8a183cb047948e707934.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/153024">The space develops further when the curved aft doors are slid into their pockets to reveal a charming rotunda with a domed ceiling that leads to the owner’s library on the portside and walk-in wardrobe to starboard. Flowing aft a sweeping staircase raises the eye to the owner’s aft deckhouse that connects to their private cockpit, which is trimmed with two fixed captain’s chairs integrated into the teak surrounds of the cockpit seating. As a whole, the owner’s suite is a fantastically light and airy retreat that maintains the flexibility of distinct areas for working, relaxing and sleeping.<img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/153025/image/large-3e6d589e53b52fdd802250aa174921a9.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/153025"> <img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/153026/image/large-d250be7f4a1d021bbfc8f640248434a9.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/153026">Elsewhere inside, the engine and control room are not typical for a sailing yacht of this length as the owner requested a full-height engine room with maximised access to machinery. A separate soundproofed and air-conditioned control room provides a comfortable and efficient working environment for the chief engineer. It also locates the electronics in a dedicated and properly ventilated space away from the guest areas and the disguised navigation station in the deckhouse, which is used primarily for route planning. Royal Huisman launches superyacht Wisp

Due for launch in early 2014, Rhoades Young Design are working with Hoek Design on this 48m classic sloop presently under construction at Royal Huisman, with project management from MCM. The interior features stained oak with dark walnut floors, using architecture consisting of rationalised classic detailing. Two new build orders in 2011 with MCM

Royal Huisman has announced not one, but two important new projects in collaboration with the renowned Dutch naval architect Andre Hoek. Her long waterline, lifting keel with trim tab and carbon spade rudder are complemented by a powerful, fully-roached sail plan supported by a complete carbon fibre rig package. Intensive CFD tank and wind tunnel testing is already underway as Hoek Design seeks to leverage its extensive knowledge of such projects to fully realise speed and handling potential.Fine exterior lines and proven sea-keeping characteristics will combine with luxurious and spacious accommodation to create an exceptional yacht with the ability to go anywhere in comfort, style and security. Serious attention will also be given to achieving high levels of energy-efficiency in developing her systems, with an equal commitment to maintaining a design aesthetic that faithfully acknowledges her sailing forebears.A unique interior design will be crafted by the equally renowned Redman Whiteley Dixon design team. Not satisfied with these factors alone, the client drove the design with added developments and refinements to the hull lines of this impressive sloop to reflect the specific objective to enjoy cruising as well as “gentleman’s racing”.Her elegant hull shape, counter stern, sloping deckhouses and numerous other traditional features speak of civilised and leisurely sailing in a romantic former era. Yet her moderate draft underwater lines, cutter carbon rig and efficient sail handling systems will be extensively optimised for performance – Project 393 will be more than capable of holding her own in the present day. With naval architecture from Hoek Design and a magnificent interior to be conceived by Rhoades Young Design, Project 393 with owner’s project management by MCM (Newport) has the credentials to make her mark wherever her ocean tracks may take her.
