Sometimes, well known superyachts just seem to disappear off our radar for a couple of years, and we loose track of them. One of these yachts is the 1977 Benetti Galu. <img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/141599/image/large-29b095d400a280f83159e8ccc0e0069a.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/141599">In the first years after her launch, the yacht's original owner made much use of the yacht. He used her up to four months a year, and cruised over 6,000 nm each season. About ten years after her launch, Galu was sold to White Yachts Inc of America, and underwent a major refit at the Codecasa yard, which gave her an new Bannenberg designed interior. During this refit, her tenders were moved from the upper aft deck, up to her sundeck, leaving the upper aft deck to function as the sundeck. It spans nearly 20 metres. She is designed by Jon Bannenberg, with an interior by Luigi Sturchio and at the time of her launch, she was one of the largest yachts in the world. Nabila was sold to American Businessman Donald Trump and became Trump Princess in the late eighties. Trump used her mainly as a business tool, and resold her a few years later to her current owner, His Royal Highness Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal Bin Abdulaziz Alsaud, the founder of the Kingdom holding Company. Even though the yacht is almost 30 years old, her looks have not been altered too radically since her launch. She had a refit at Amels in 1993, but only minor changes were made to her exterior, which included small alteration of her aft decks. She is seen here in Corsica, and was photographed by our friends at Corsica Yacht Services. Ciro Petrucci of Fraser Yachts, and Parisi Broker have been appointed as the co-central agents for the sale of the 28.8 metre converted tugboat D.P. Monitor, built by Benetti in the fifties. We spoke with the yacht's owner, who explains the history of the vessel, and his reasons to offer her for sale.<img alt="" src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/138442/image/large-0656fa4e40c12c8b4233b8b14693ea27.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/138442" class="legacy">“D.P. Monitor was, in 1991, the first tugboat in Italy to be transformed into a luxury yacht. The charm of D.P. Monitor has no equal. The yacht was larger than the other yachts of this size, has 5 cabins, 6 bathrooms and 3 crew cabins with 3 bathrooms, and has over 100 square meters exterior deck space. After its conversion into a yacht, she had preserved all the important technical characteristics of offshore tugs. This allows you to safely navigate, on a boat with a character of steel, but with a gentle soul.”Ships as the D.P. Monitor require less maintenance than that required for vessels that are designed for the pleasure. Their nature and the purpose for which they were originally built to make them highly durable, maybe even "eternal", when compared with the average maturity of motor yachts of this size.When we ask the owner's reason for selling such a special vessel, he replied "After extensive renovations made in the last two years I have acquired the skills and techniques, and have created a motivated team, to undertake a major new project: the transformation of a new tug. We believe that if the new Owner will love the boat, as much as we did, the DP Monitor, which has already celebrated 59 years of life, 21 of which as a yacht, will continue to cruise for many more years to come.”D.P. The yacht features a modern interior, designed by Redman Whitely Dixon, with bulkheads of medium-toned Anegre hardwood and darker contrasting walnut and Wenge detail on door frames and furniture, as well as the occasional use of black marble for added drama. She includes two large saloons (one on the main deck and one on the upper deck), an owner’s suite with his and hers bathrooms, study and dressing rooms, and five guest suites that are separate from the crew’s quarters. Xanadu measures 60m, and accommodates 12 guests in total luxury. Her interior, inspired by the grand hotels of the Italian Riviera, is designed by Andrew Winch.
