Superyachts in Auckland, New Zealand

One of the largest superyacht berthings facilities in the Pacific, Silo Marina in Auckland New Zealand, is currently hosting a number of large superyachts from the region. In this aerial photo overlooking downtown Auckland are superyachts Serenity J, Dragonfly, Sarissa, Dardanella, Mystere, Evviva, Legacy, Pursuit, M5, and in the top right corner, McMullen &amp; Wing’s new 50m Chirundos that was launched earlier this year. Since this image was taken Dragonfly and Sarissa has moved into the adjacent dry dock facility for seasonal maintenance.

Vitters superyacht Dardanella in Auckland

According to local reports, superyacht Dardanella, a 36.88 metre explorer styled superyacht, caught fire at the Liberty Landing Marina in Jersey City on Saturday afternoon. November 09 Update: The fire started in one of the yacht’s lowerdeck staterooms. There are no injuries. Updated: Fire on superyacht Dardanella causes minor damage

Pendennis has recently concluded its busiest refit season in their 23 year history, with six superyachts being finished over the past few weeks. A significant project undertaken was M/Y Audacia with an impressive list of updates completed in just nine weeks. This included comprehensive design improvements including a 2 metre stern extension, reconfigured aft curving staircases and underwater lighting which formed part of the overall restyling by Joanne de Guardiola Design. <img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/135205/image/large-fc056b2df3b7c9b6324956a399a99884.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/135205">Pendennis undertook the installation of a more modern deck crane to tie into the new aesthetics alongside various system upgrades including replacement of the A/C system and improvements to the stability of the vessel by way of ‘Quantum’ zero speed stabilisers to ensure comfort both at sea and at anchor. Audacia’s first trip following her visit to Cornwall was to the Cannes Film Festival where her new lines and features were greatly admired. Refit work was simultaneously undertaken on the schooner Adela, who was re-launched at the beginning of May. The schedule of works included updating of her furnishings by Pendennis’ interior design team, an engineering overhaul, new generators, paintwork and electrical work. This was also the first time that Adela has had her impressive mainsail replaced since her rebuild at Pendennis in 1992. S/Y Andromeda La Dea arrived at Pendennis in November 2010 for her ABS 20 year survey following which she has also received portions of new teak deck and a full exterior repaint by Pendennis’ experienced in-house paint specialists. This 1990 Perini Navi vessel is currently docked alongside the 37m explorer vessel M/Y Dardanella in Port Pendennis Marina whilst finishing works are undertaken before departure which is scheduled for the end of May. Dardanella’s programme of works included replacement Northern Light generators, a wet room for Bridge Deck to give more flexible pilot berth accommodation, reconfiguration of the Ship’s Office and the addition of a Jacuzzi on the sun deck as well as converting the Owner’s shower to a steam room. The team at Pendennis is well underway on a substantial refit of a 42m Feadship motor yacht, whose details remain under wraps. Also nearing completion is the sailing catamaran Hemisphere, which is due to be unveiled at the Monaco Yacht Show in September. Flood up took place in May and Hemisphere’s impressive 53m wing mast is due to be installed following its delivery to the yard this week. M/Y Lady Georgina, M/Y Illusion and S/Y Constance have also paid a short visit providing a total of seven superyachts moored at the marina providing a truly impressive and unique sight in Falmouth Bay. <img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/135206/image/large-0fc5966be21ad0af9181670de3deb262.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/135206">Naturally Pendennis continues to be involved in more local projects, with short works completed on the iconic 181’ Cornish Chain Ferry, the King Harry Ferry (built by Pendennis in 2006), and a refit of S/Y Carte Blanche after her second winter stay in the yard. Built in 1967 by Nautor’s Swan Carte Blanche is the oldest Swan still to be in use and will now embark on her annual racing season around Falmouth. Superyacht refit update from Pendennis

Pendennis is delighted to announce that the 55m Feadship Illusion has been named as a finalist in the World Superyacht Awards, with the results due to be announced at the ceremony in London at the beginning of May. The extensive winter refit took just over 8 months to complete and included a 3-level 5m LOA stern extension with the addition of a drop-down beach club and enhanced tender garage, thereby substantially enlarging the amount of living space on board.<img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/133910/image/large-ac229cf4708a77bed85f68237f97a0e1.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/133910">The work also included significant engineering work (including a complete Lloyd’s 5-year survey), deck refurbishment, improvements to the crew quarters and bridge, as well as a dramatic changes to her interior through contemporary restyling of the Owner’s study and ‘sky lounge’ by Bannenberg &amp; Rowell Design.The Owner commented “Pendennis continually exceeded my expectations in terms of their high level of customer service, attention to detail and quality of finish, and final performance of the vessel. The list of structural improvements alongside the more traditional engineering and vessel maintenance tasks provided a considerable amount of work to be completed within one season. My team on the ground were consistently reassured by Pendennis’ professionalism during what could have conceivably been a very stressful experience. With this vessel due to arrive in the next couple of weeks, this will lead to a total of 8 yachts undergoing work in Falmouth at the end of February. With a very busy few months ahead.

Superyacht Dardanella in Malta

The Netherlands are well known for building high quality superyachts, but since last year we also have a specialized superyacht refit shipyard, Balk Shipyard in Urk. Although already established back in 1786 (!), it wasn’t until they moved from Elburg to Urk before they were noticed within the superyacht industry. <img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/126080/image/large-7f4b129db10dad8716da72257b6b4879.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/126080"><img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/126081/image/large-e8cb97f2c02351de8f166412de07e9ff.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/126081">This can of course be explained by the fact that Elburg is not easily accessible for superyachts, but as Daan Balk explains they have worked on some large yachts there in the past as well. “In Elburg we did a lot of work for the Dutch government, but we also had many yachts there like the 29m Viking Legacy, the recently restored Blue Bird and the Van Dam Nordia Cornelia to name a few”. It was Daan Balk who assisted the Dutch owner of <a href="#managed-by-application" data-legacy="true" data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/2248">Blue Bird</a> when selling the yacht to her present owners. They opted to do the refit of Blue Bird at Balk Shipyard, however this was premature, as they had just unveiled their plans to move Elburg to Urk and couldn’t cope with such a restoration at this stage. However things changed rapidly. Although the shipyard was officially opened in September 2007, they had already completed two successful superyacht projects in Urk. The first project being <a href="#managed-by-application" data-legacy="true" data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/1356">Berzinc</a>. Berzinc was purchased by her owner as a wreck in 2004 and soon after, she was towed to The Netherlands were she was completely stripped and work started from scratch. Her length was increased by a few meters and after all the exterior and engineering work was done at Balk, the yacht left to Turkey for completion of the interior. <img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/126082/image/large-347c64f5e70a7d61449963ca62a64b6a.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/126082"> <img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/126083/image/large-72928a61ae8095669640cc41fb0c2a01.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/126083">Their second large project was the refit of the 46m <a href="#managed-by-application" data-legacy="true" data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/138">Putty VI</a>. Initiated by Vripack Brokers, Balk Shipyard was responsible for the refit and re-launched her in July 2007. Work included the complete rebuild of the sun deck and the owner’s quarters, as well as the installation of a new air-conditioning system. <img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/126084/image/large-e1fc5c7713ba034ef18427bd63b6002d.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/126084">Currently occupying the large refit shed is the 50m Amels <a href="#managed-by-application" data-legacy="true" data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/546">Tzarina</a>. To date she is the largest project for Balk. “Work on Tzarina started in June 2006 and since the start, work has already tripled than originally planned” says Daan Balk. “Her new spectacular interior is designed by Ken Freivokh and will make an impact when finished”. Other notable yachts which visited Balk over the years are <a href="#managed-by-application" data-legacy="true" data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/1512">Grace</a> (a complete new clipper stern was built), <a href="#managed-by-application" data-legacy="true" data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/701">Anakena</a>, <a href="#managed-by-application" data-legacy="true" data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/137">Dardanella</a>, Viking Legacy, <a href="#managed-by-application" data-legacy="true" data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/1521">African Queen</a>, <a href="#managed-by-application" data-legacy="true" data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/1813">Thalia</a> and many others. <img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/126085/image/large-3cdcf5e88768148d1d69c348f6a276ca.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/126085">The first projects for this winter are already in place. First to arrive is <a href="#managed-by-application" data-legacy="true" data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/1431">Cornelia</a>, who will be back for some maintenance work and the “small” Feadship Lucia will arrive for a major refit. Fraser Yachts announce three sales in February, among the most notable is the sale of the 58m converted tug Dolce Far Niente. The yacht is now renamed Seawolf and joins the Fraser Yachts charter fleet. February brokerage and charter news from Fraser Yachts

Having sold the 151’ Expedition Motor Yacht Turmoil (now <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/138" data-legacy="true" href="#managed-by-application">Putty VI</a>) last year, Holland-based Vripack Yacht and Ship Brokers have taken up her sister ship <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/137" data-legacy="true" href="#managed-by-application">Dardanella</a> (photo below) into their listing again. This ultimate 121’ Exploration/Expedition Motor Yacht, built to a Vripack design in 1998, has a full aluminium construction which ensures durability and strength. Built by Vitters Shipyard in 1997, this 101’ aluminium Semi-Displacement Motor Yacht has 4 owner’s cabins and 3 crew cabins, a maximum speed of 16 knots and an unequalled charter record. Vripack lists Timeless and Dardanella for sale

In addition to the fireworks that traditionally herald the New Year here in Holland, 2007 started with a bang for Jongert in other ways. The yard signed contracts for three new projects in the first week: A 2400M, a 36m motor yacht and another power boat with a length of around 40m. This excellent news means that the major part of our capacity for the coming period is accounted for. Nonetheless, Jongert still has room for several other projects and is already in serious discussions for another major new build project. Meanwhile, the yard is currently busy with the production of two 2700M yachts for delivery later this year. The yard is also carrying out major refits on the Jongert 3000M Azzura and the lovely Vitters yacht <a href="#managed-by-application" data-legacy="true" data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/137">Dardanella</a>. In June of last year, we enjoyed the Jongert regatta in beautiful Porto Venere with 18 yachts attending this unique yachting event. In addition the contract for project 425 was signed. This 2700M will be stunning to look at and features innovations as a large sliding roof. The second half of 2006 several refit projects were booked, and the yard looks forward to further developments in the refit field.From the 7th to the 10th of June we are organizing the Jongert Regatta 2007, which will be held in Tarragona, Spain. All our owners are invited to participate in this great event.Powering into the motor yacht market In direct response to market demands and our earlier successes in this sector, Jongert recently decided to launch a new selection of semi-custom and fully customised motor yachts. The aim is to build vessels within the 27 to 40m range, although we can technically build up to 60m inside our purpose-built facilities. Regardless of size, owners can expect the same high quality interior finish that has graced Jongert’s sailing yachts for decades.Two distinctive lines of semi-custom yachts have been introduced. The first is a roomy 35m, three-deck displacement yacht in a traditional style, with a 30m version also on the drawing board. The Jongert 35MY features all the conveniences of a much larger superyacht in a smaller package. Our well-developed modular system will speed up the building time while at the same time offering a very complete yacht with a certain degree of customisation.The second line of semi-custom designs are fast and modern, currently available in 29m and 36m versions. Dutch stylist Guido de Groot has given the 2900MY a distinctive Jongert look. The interior includes no less than four double guest cabins (two of which are VIP suites).Service &amp; Refit Jongert’s service and refit facilities are busy with two major new projects due for completion by the summer of 2007. The first is the refit of the Jongert 3000M Azzura, built in 1998. She came to the yard from her home base in the US to receive a complete new paint job, new teak decks, a new navigation and communication equipment package and LED-lighting throughout the yacht. In addition, various interior modifications will be made and Azzura will be given a complete technical check-up plus several system upgrades. Work is also underway on the 36-metre Vitters motor yacht <a href="#managed-by-application" data-legacy="true" data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/137">Dardanella</a>, including a complete refit of all technical installations and systems. A new hydraulic gangway, two new generators and other equipment are on the agenda, as is updating the communication and navigation equipment. The yacht’s hull will also receive a new paint job and several areas of the interior will also be repainted and partly changed. The primary reason for this extensive refit is the owner’s intention to take Dardanella around the world. <noscript></noscript>
