The final day of racing for the <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Event/219" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Superyacht Challenge Antigua - 2024">Superyacht Challenge Antigua 2024 (SYCA)</a> came to a close on Sunday 17 March, where the class winners were announced and the highly prized Gosnell Trophy was presented to Adela which competed in the Spirit of the Regatta.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/305430/image/large-903e27ca35a87f858ab23e8765ae41ac.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/305430">The class winners of the <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Event/219" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Superyacht Challenge Antigua - 2024">Superyacht Challenge Antigua</a> were congratulated at the <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Event/219" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Superyacht Challenge Antigua - 2024">Superyacht Challenge Antigua</a> prize giving ceremony on Sunday, held at The Admirals Inn. Although there is no overall winner, the highly prized Gosnell Trophy is awarded to the yacht which competed in the Spirit of the Regatta.&nbsp;Racers were off to a great start on the final day, with sunshine and about 15 knots of superb tradewinds just south of east. The <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Event/219" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Superyacht Challenge Antigua - 2024">SYCA</a> Race Committee, led by PRO Hank Stuart, set two courses for the three classes, which later had to deal with south veering winds, and 18 knot gusts. <img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/305428/image/large-5656a134cb4dbd349c5fb9a56e3764ea.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/305428">A 17.5 nautical mile triangular course was set for the Buccaneer class, which included three long downwind, reaching and upwind legs, while the Corsair and Privateer classes were set a special course 21.3 nautical miles, which included two long reaching legs and a deep water beat.The Privateer class saw the 66.7-metre <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/327" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Baltic Yachts (Company)">Baltic</a> yacht <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/592" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Hetairos66.7m (218'10&quot;)Baltic Yachts2011">Hetairos</a>, skippered by Graham Newton, make the best in class start. Presented by Toby Allies &amp; Mike Carr from Pendennis Shipyard, the sprinkling of Irish sailors onboard <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/4858" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Namuun32.89m (107'11&quot;)Turquoise Yachts2012">Namuun</a> were particularly pleased to be honoured on St Patrick's Day.<a data-gid="gid://syiq/Event/219" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Superyacht Challenge Antigua - 2024">Superyacht Challenge Antigua</a> co-founder Stan Pearson was present in spirit throughout the regatta. Stan sadly passed away just a few weeks before the start. After his burial at sea flanked by superyachts, a memorial was held in Nelson’s Dockyard with hundreds of the sailing community in attendance. <img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/305438/image/large-d84e894f9b33c1e527b660c53d839763.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/305438">“Stan will always be remembered for his tremendous work, love and enthusiasm for sailing,” commented organisers of the regatta. “A deep water mark ‘Stan’ has been named in his memory and three cheers were given Stan at the prizegiving, which the whole of Nelson’s Dockyard heard.”<a data-gid="gid://syiq/Event/219" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Superyacht Challenge Antigua - 2024">Superyacht Challenge</a> Antigua co-founder Paul Deeth has confirmed the dates for the 14th edition of the Superyacht Challenge Antigua, which will be held between the 4-11 March, 2025.

Last Saturday (19th March) saw the third day of racing at one of the world’s most prestigious four-day regattas, <a href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="St Barths Bucket Regatta - 2022">St Barths Bucket Regatta</a>. The sailors had plenty of time to mentally prepare for the course as winds gusting over 25 knots led to a delay of two hours for the events to begin.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/220441/image/large-d3bcc76ff20b93bdf4be666c24fd93ab.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/220441">The day’s racing saw two classes, the Grand Dames and L’Esprit, sail the same 18.4 nautical miles clockwise around and through small islands and rock groupings on the west and north side of the island of Saint Barthélémy. The other five classes, Les Gazelles, Les Elegantes, Les Mademoiselles, Les Petites Dames and J-Class also sailed a similar route but with some longer legs to stretch the trek to just over 23 nautical miles.Thankfully the wind conditions had improved to a cool 17-18 knots for the first pursuit start at 1:30pm for the L’Esprit Class. But the wind then whipped up again to 30+ knots when strong winds and sideways rain hit in the vicinity of the islands Ile Fourchue and Ile de Boulanger. That was when many in the fleet were embarking on their second downwind leg of the race. The strong winds in the water led to one hour delay for the proceedings of what was to be 30 pursuit starts for the superyachts competing at the 35th edition of <a href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="St Barths Bucket Regatta - 2022">St. Barths Bucket</a>.The J-Class boats started, only to have their race abandoned after a few short legs on the “Wrong Way” race around the island. The winds were exceeding 25 knots and reaching battering highs in the 30s on the far side of the island. The race committee then made the difficult decision to abandon the racing for all other classes before they had even started.&nbsp;With that, all the scores from Saturday’s races served as the final results for the regatta. The winner in the J-Class was the refitted 41.63-metre sloop <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/432" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Ranger41.55m (136'4&quot;)Danish Yachts2003">Ranger</a>, who was new to the event as well as her skipper Ed Baird. The key to our success was three good days of practice beforehand. Some of the world's most spectacular superyachts are gathering at Gustavia harbour once again for St Barths Bucket Regatta after a two-year hiatus. The highly regarded event was cancelled in 2020 and 2021 due to Covid-19 restrictions, but it is back at the idyllic island of Saint Barthélemy for its 28th time since first gracing these local waters in 1995. It is also its 35th edition since debuting in Nantucket, Massachusetts, USA in 1986. <img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/76804/image/large-b2d8e5c1a0922eed3cb09e818bc214cf.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/76804">St Barths Bucket welcomes some of the finest sailors from around the world, as they compete for three days to race around the Caribbean islands. The event is running from Thursday 17th March until Sunday 20th March and starts with three historic J-Class boats that sail two races before being joined by another 24 superyachts in five classes, and three yachts in the “90’ Class” on Friday through Sunday for a single race each day. Each of these are designed to elicit awe from those who are either trained or naturally inclined to appreciate fine design and feats of engineering genius. The most performance oriented of them all is Les Gazells des Mers as well as Les Elegantes des Mers, Les Mademoiselles des Mers, Les Grandes Dames des Mers, L’Esprit de Mer (Corinthian Spirit), and Les Petites Dames des Mers (90’ Class).
