<a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/293" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Mulder Shipyard (Company)">Mulder Shipyard</a>, the Zoeterwoude-Rijndijk-based and family-run Dutch yacht builder, has bought its fourth facility in Enkhuizen, located in the north west of the Netherlands. <img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/217894/image/large-5c28a271513a37b93106f2f5baa9884c.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/217894">The new shipyard comprises two hull construction sheds – large enough to accommodate yachts up to 50 metres in length – and a separate shed for interior and deck work, which <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/293" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Mulder Shipyard (Company)">Mulder</a> will make use of in the future.&nbsp;<a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/293" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Mulder Shipyard (Company)">Mulder</a> stated that the purchase of this new facility will strengthen the builder's position as it will ensure autonomy, while simultaneously helping optimise delivery time and quality. <img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/217892/image/large-9d70a5f00251a5ebcc617ff49968ed39.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/217892">“This heavy-duty construction shed has historically facilitated the build of multiple yachts, including the 43-metre superyacht <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/1660" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Latitude43.5m (142'9&quot;)Acico Yachts2010">Latitude</a> and 49-metre <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/3404" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Nassima49.18m (161'4&quot;)Acico Yachts2012">Nassima</a> amongst other vessels. Rover Design (Company)">Cor D. Rover</a>. She sports a round-bilge semi-displacement hull designed by <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/460" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Van Oossanen Naval Architects (Company)">Van Oossanen</a> and comfortably cruises at displacement speeds between 10 and 15 knots, with a top speed of 20 knots. Inside, the owner's and guest accommodation comprises of five staterooms, with an additional sixth convertible stateroom on the upper deck for a total of 12 guests.

SuperYacht Times recently spoke to Acico Yachts Sales and PR Manager, Sytse de Vlas, who explained more about the history of the Dutch shipbuilder, their current and past projects, and the companies presence at this years boat shows all over the world.<img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/152745/image/large-06cab897b07470d0b3fd5213942ac977.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/141973">Acico Yachts was founded in 2010, and came after a takeover of Dutch Yacht Builders by Acico Industries. Based in the small but thriving town of Enkhuizen in the Netherlands where the Acico Yachts yard now reigns, Dutch Yacht Builders was established in 1995. By combining the managing and financial resources of Acico Industries and the long lasting Dutch yacht building tradition of the shipyard, Acico Yachts was born and is managed since then by the Swiss naval architect Christian Bolinger. Uniting the 60 staff that made up the two separate businesses solidified the company, and a new quality Dutch shipbuilder was introduced to the industry.<strong style="margin: 0px; padding: 0px; border: 0px; color: rgb(102, 102, 102); font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 16px; text-align: -webkit-center; background-image: none; background-attachment: initial; background-size: initial; background-origin: initial; background-clip: initial; background-position: initial; background-repeat: initial;"><img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/152746/image/large-42c4affb1078665688539424405825cc.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/151445"><img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/152747/image/large-e5e5bc775ba35f0d36bb359dd4e94e5c.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/146841"> <img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/152748/image/large-7106669885ed036d23022f7d5f933139.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/146842">After its inauguration five years ago, Acico Yachts is most famous for the 49 metre superyacht Nassima launched in 2012 which is currently for sale, but has also built a considerable amount of vessels at their facilities for other shipyards. The largest of these were the 43 metre Latitude and the 47 metre LadyDee motor yachts designed by Cor de Rover.<img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/152749/image/large-bb7b1259d40bb647364ee2c8c2d54387.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/141984">As a relatively new brand in the industry even half a decade on, De Vlas comments on the introduction of a new series in 2014 at one of the most important dates in the yachting calendar; the Monaco Yacht Show. “During the show we introduced our new semi-custom series that we designed together with Sea Level. These yachts ranges in sizes from the largest design of 50 metres accommodating up to 12 guests, to the smallest design of 26 metres accommodating up to 8 guests. The first impressions we received were very interesting, and we’re now in the process of continuing those conversations that were begun at the Show."<img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/152750/image/large-dc9b2767a6e57e29f7f244a32dcbbcce.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/152750">De Vlas discusses another introduction of the series, saying that, “Another label that we will launch during the Dubai yacht show next month is designed in cooperation with HotLab. These series contemporary designs include yachts of similar sizes from 25 meter, 35 meter and 50 meters in length.”Aside from the development of the semi-custom series, current projects at the yard include an explorer yacht with diesel electric Azipod propulsion system that is being constructed for the German shipyard Drettmann, which is due to be completed just before the summer cruising season. Explaining further projects, de Vlas says, “We’re also starting up the 40 metre sailing yacht we have previous worked on and of course we have the explorer, as well as two performance yachts under construction. In February we’ll begin a 21 metre yacht for a client that is also under a different brand name other than Acico, and we’re also in the process of doing engineering works for a 35 metre project which we will hopefully start building soon.”<img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/152751/image/large-b0cc3d16cc4e95fbf9478858a6a433fd.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/145325">Despite a seemingly full shipyard, de Vlas told SuperYacht Times that there is more than enough capacity at the yard for further projects. In terms of delivery time, he comments, “We have various projects that can be finished in a relatively fast period of time, and in that way we can still build other big projects in a reasonable time frame. It gives us a lot of opportunities. Moreover, we are one of the few Dutch shipyards still offering full expertise of yacht building under one roof. Weather it is semi-custom or full custom, we are focussing on producing yachts of 35 meters up to 60 meters in length.”Acico will be present at several shows this year, including the Dubai International Boat Show, Cannes Yachting Festival, Monaco Yacht Show and the METS.By Maarten Janssen

Interview with Sytse de Vlas, Acico Yachts

One of the latest launches on display at this year’s MYBA Charter show in Genoa this month, was the 43.50 metre superyacht Latitude. Latitude was built at Acico Yachts (formerly Dutch Yacht Builders, recently taken over by one of their clients) in The Netherlands to a design of Cor D Rover, and is available for charter through Camberley International Inc. <img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/135105/image/large-b62615e99d43e000264fe1904231d427.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/135105">Latitude sports a round-bilge semi-displacement hull designed by Van Oossanen &amp; Associates. This allows for the combination of very economic sailing at displacement speeds between 10 and 15 knots, while her twin MTU 16V2000 M93 engines still have the juice (1790 kW each) to push the boat to 20.7 knots. There is no hump speed - the luxury yacht is equally at ease at all speeds in the range. <img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/135106/image/large-de9beb97e08c0c50d958809940f000c0.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/135106">A lot of attention has been paid to guest comfort. The noise level recorded in the master cabin at 18 knots is only 55 dB(A). Her Naiad fin stabilizers do an excellent job reducing the roll, both underway and at anchor. The concept design, general arrangement and exterior styling were developed by Cor de Rover in close consultation with the owners. The white hull and superstructure are marked by an exciting play of shadow lines and both convex and concave surfaces. <img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/135107/image/large-43a0c8a5c7cd8afdf79120641409ad9a.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/135107">Latitude’s elegant and inviting interior designed with the input of the well known Dutch interior designer Piet Boon of Piet Boon Design, features tainted oak floors and white leather and stingray leather in the public spaces. <img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/135108/image/large-3ac14980455f1e72035efdede8389f8c.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/135108">The main deck salon features an unconventional arrangement, with the dining area is located aft, creating a lovely indoor-outdoor dining experience for guests. The yard was recently taken over by one of their clients and is now called Acico Yachts. As M/Y <a href="#managed-by-application" data-legacy="true" data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/1660">Latitude</a> was their first superyacht built under class and MCA, considerable involvement from our side was needed, but the cooperation went very well, and the yard is rightfully proud of the end result." After three years of project management covering the entire build period, Innomare was also contracted as technical superintendent by the yacht’s managers. Dutch Yacht Builders, based in Enkhuizen, has recently launched their first superyacht, the 43.5 metre DYB43. The superyacht was built at this Dutch shipyard in close co-operation with the owner and his management team, Camberley International Inc. Built out of aluminium the luxury yacht has been designed by Cor D. Rover Design and the hull has been designed by Van Oossanen &amp; Associates BV. <img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/128338/image/large-eb32e9cb126050e8e01925ad5fbacf1d.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/128338">The owner's and guest accommodation comprises of five staterooms, with in addition a sixth convertible stateroom on the upper deck, for a total of 12 people. On the lower deck are two large full beam VIP staterooms in addition to two guest cabins all with en-suites. The owner's stateroom is located on the main-deck forward. The skylounge with full bathroom facilities has multiple functions, this area can be used as a skylounge, gymnasium or as a sixth stateroom with en-suite bathroom. The main saloon and dining room feature a nice bar area and all outside decks have ample seating for large parties.
