Europe's longest-running superyacht regatta, The Superyacht Cup Palma 2023, will be returning for its 27th edition.

Palma Superyacht Cup 2023 returns

The Palma Superyacht Cup returns next week, 21-24th June. 

Palma Superyacht Cup returns next week for its 27th edition

It’s not just her size, but most of all her stylish exterior and interior design that impress yacht lovers and make this superyacht an exclusive dream home on the high seas. <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/5122" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="List General Contractor GmbH (Company)">List General Contractor (List GC)</a> was commissioned with the project management of the interior fittings on four decks and a total of 745 m² and furnished the yacht with handcrafted special surfaces and exclusive fittings. The owner’s deck is equipped with an informal lounge and the sky lounge deck with a fitness room. We coordinate countless surveying and elaborate feedback and approval processes with the shipyard, design studio and subcontractors, including quality controls, until the assembly process on the yacht, which is accurate to the millimetre, can begin. This was also the case with <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/7335" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Ahpo115.1m (377'7&quot;)Lürssen Yachts2021">Ahpo</a>, which was handed over to the owner in 2021. Herwig Schmallegger, Senior Coordinator Project Management at <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/5122" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="List General Contractor GmbH (Company)">List GC</a>, made sure that the project ran without a hitch. “In terms of construction, the project was an extremely small-scale and precise job. There was a huge number of components and countless special requirements and designs: communication on an equal footing and tact were our ingredients for success on this project.”<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/231029/image/large-cdcd9e34e92e615086b6c73b5a2093be.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/231029">Managing the expectations of the various project partners is also crucial. “The more the designers, owners, shipyard and <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/5122" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="List General Contractor GmbH (Company)">List GC</a> team are on the same wavelength, the better things will go. And things couldn't have gone better on the <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/7335" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Ahpo115.1m (377'7&quot;)Lürssen Yachts2021">Ahpo</a> project,” adds Schmallegger. From the design idea to the exclusive special surfaceThe stylish mother-of-pearl 3D varnish finish by <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/5122" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="List General Contractor GmbH (Company)">List GC</a> is one of the highlights: it adorns the walls and parts of the ceiling of the Spa area and the Informal Lounge. The handmade special surfaces designed especially for the project make the yacht one-of-a-kind. In collaboration with the top-class design studio <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/65" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Nuvolari Lenard (Company)">Nuvolari Lenard</a>, the surfaces were perfectly matched to the customer’s wishes. Details specified by the design team, in the form of samples or visualisations, had to be created and recreated in detail – for example, from a 10 x 10 cm reference sample to an entire wall with a total area of 200 m². The sampling process continued for several months and required a high degree of creativity and craftsmanship.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/266648/image/large-441f1005e534e430d688b5ed348cee0b.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/266648">An essential step here was to ensure that the surfaces were not only visually appealing but also hard-wearing. A common approach is therefore to test in advance how the surfaces will develop over a longer period of time. This is done by exposing the samples to extreme temperatures from -20 degrees to +40 degrees for two weeks – simulating what the ageing process over several years would look like. “When developing the special surfaces, we benefited greatly from our experience working on past superyacht projects. We knew exactly how to integrate all the processes into the tight schedule – and which steps required a particularly close eye or even sensitivity at times,” says Christof Hack, Engineer at <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/5122" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="List General Contractor GmbH (Company)">List GC</a>.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/257557/image/large-d57b1dd69bb45706d173f04eb1e48b1a.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/257557">A marriage between elegance and safetyAnother highlight in the spa area besides the mother-of-pearl surfaces is the teak ceiling in leaf form, consisting of three large and two small leaves. The material was worked on the floor, but ultimately applied to the ceiling of the yacht. This requires a high degree of spatial thinking and extreme accuracy. The size of the individual sheets also presented us with challenges in terms of space. Every single step had to be weighed in the mind beforehand. The final day at the <a href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Giorgio Armani Superyacht Regatta - 15th">Giorgio Armani Superyacht Regatta 2022</a> drew to a close yesterday with <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/12027" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Allegra APC7823.95m (78'7&quot;)Green Marine2014">Allegra</a> and <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/4121" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Magic Carpet 330.47m (99'12&quot;)Wally2013">Magic Carpet Cubed</a> reigning champions of their respective categories. After four days of racing around the La Maddalena archipelago the event closed with a prize giving ceremony held at the <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/2826" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Yacht Club Costa Smeralda (Company)">YCCS</a> Piazza Azzurra. <img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/229446/image/large-8c50b92f35f56c355e6163833c2522f2.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/229446">The weather conditions for the day were overcast skies and a shifty variable breeze with the race once again scheduled for 12:30pm. The Race Committee made the decision to opt for a shorter southerly course due to low winds, with the starting line located off Porto Cuervo. Both the Multihull and Superyacht Division would round the island of Soffi, before heading for the Bisce pass and the finish line. The Multihulls had been battling it out all week, with Adrian Keller’s <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/12027" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Allegra APC7823.95m (78'7&quot;)Green Marine2014">Allegra</a> winning three consecutive races. But it was due to <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/12027" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Allegra APC7823.95m (78'7&quot;)Green Marine2014">Allegra</a>’s tactical decision to sail close to the coast on the approach that allowed her rival Highland Fling XVII to overtake her right at the finish line. The Race Committee decided on a clockwise course of the islands of La Maddalena and Caprera, via the Bisce strait and leaving the Secca Di Tre Monti to starboard.The course saw an interesting passage to the north between the island of Santa Maria and the Isola Piana before rounding the islet of Barettinelli Di Fuori, acting as a natural mark. The initial line-up of superyachts taking part in the Loro Piana Superyacht Regatta 2019 has been announced. The 12th edition of the regatta, organised by the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda will kick off in Porto Cervo between 3rd-8th June this year. Transforming great ideas into great interiors with List GC

When a young Paola Siniramed, freshly graduated - magna cum laude - from Milano University’s Law Faculty, met Salvatore Trifirò, already a brilliant young lawyer, the two ambitious Italians quickly fell head over heels in love. Salvatore, already a passionate sailor, was quick to introduce his soon-to-be bride to his love for the water, taking weekends to sail on his 7-metre sailing boat on Lake Como, close to their home city of Milan. Paola “quickly realised the wonderful possibilities that come with a life on the water,” and after undertaking some serious studying and training at sailing schools, included a tricky celestial navigation course, so began what would become a lifetime affair with yachting.<img src="/uploads/store/photo/35586/image/large-4a6ec64c765293d03f407926cfcbcfcb.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/35586">Specialising and practising family law for some years, once married Paola made the decision to dedicate more time to the couples’ quality of life, investing her energies into the practicalities of enjoying a busy schedule. “Salvatore does not have much free time, and this is the problem with all yacht owners,” she says. “Of course, they are yacht owners because they work incredibly hard, they have reaped the rewards of a high-intensity professional life. I optimise my husband’s time so that we enjoy our time together to the maximum level. Our beloved boats are always the most important objects in our lives. Work is our priority, our way of sustaining ourselves and our lifestyle, and the second most important is following our passion whenever we can.”&nbsp;Taking the traditional route of steadily climbing up the size ladder, following their passion is exactly what Paola did, and the next 20 years saw the Trifirò’s go from 7-metres to 21-metres in several stages, cruising the wonders of the Italian, French, and Greek coasts extensively whenever they could. The spirit of sailing had the Trifirò’s hooked, and as Paola explains, “Sailing is a dream. It allows you to really discover the world, to happen upon secluded beaches and coves that you can’t do otherwise. We’re always looking for hidden places to explore. It’s a fantastic experience.” <img src="/uploads/store/photo/35587/image/large-d553f303e8dc24360f32eb9acad829cf.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/35587">The thirst for exploration eventually let the Trifirò’s minds wander to more distant shores, and with that, a boat capable of voyaging a little farther than the waters of their homeland. And so they made the jump to superyacht, with the purchase of the 25 metre Jongert-built <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/7580" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Happy Taurus II 26.6m (87'3&quot;)">Happy Taurus II</a>. This, Paola explains, was the first chance they had to really get out there and experience sailing in a way that harks back to the ages past. “We bought her from a German owner, and 25-metres was already much bigger than anything we had had at this time. Jongert built very strong, beautiful boats, so I told my husband that now, we can really pass Gibraltar and go out towards the world. Enjoying navigating as Columbus did, to acquire and better our knowledge, or to discover something new and exciting.”&nbsp;Exploring much of Europe, including the British coast, the rest of the world soon beckoned. “From Happy Taurus II, we went on to a semi-custom, 31-metre yacht, Anamcara in 2001,” continues Paola. “She was also a Jongert and just beautiful. With these two boats, still now in our hearts, we did some fantastic cruising all over the world, from Cornwall to Norway, and to the East Coast of the States. We touched Nantucket with a big emotion, we entered New York and Savannah, we passed Panama many times, and really enjoyed Baja California. We moored in Seattle and navigated the cold, unique waters of Alaska. It was fantastic.”<img src="/uploads/store/photo/35588/image/large-b114551686e3a1d3cf862220c8ae049f.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/35588">Exploration kept the Trifirò’s occupied for an additional four years before they discovered the regatta scene, in 2004, in Porto Cervo at the renowned Rolex Cup. Paola soon had another project in which she could savour learning every aspect - all for the maximisation of their enjoyment of the prized possession. “We had never considered racing, but as soon as we saw the passion for racing, the thrill of the sport, we decided to go for a yacht that was thinner, quicker, and give racing a shot!”&nbsp;Paola was true to her word, and within the year the Trifirò’s were the proud owners of the 40-metre Dubois-designed <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/411" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Zalmon40.4m (132'7&quot;)">Kokomo of London</a>. Never one to do anything by halves, the first regatta the Trifirò’s competed in saw Ed Dubois himself at the wheel of Kokomo of London (“Ed was an extraordinary man and friend, we had a mutual understanding and my respect for him still remains strong today,” Paola says) taken over by serial yacht owner and influential sailor <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Article/48039" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Neville Crichton: How an owner, sailor and entrepreneur sparked industry transformation (2018-01-22 12:00:00 +0100)">Neville Crichton</a> after a family emergency forced Dubois to hastily return to shore. &nbsp;<img src="/uploads/store/photo/32201/image/large-4639d15e95caafce75c1dc0066d4644e.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/32201"> Always with an eye to the future, once the Trifiro’s racing appetite had been whetted the search for their next sailing boat began, which lead to the commissioning of the 49.7-metre<a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/2463" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Zefira49.69m (163'0&quot;)">&nbsp;Zefira</a> to be built at the New Zealand shipyard, Fitzroy Yachts. Choosing the exterior designer and naval architect was easy, Paola says, with Ed Dubois and the team at Dubois Naval Architects undertaking the project from the word ‘GO’. The interior, however, was a little more problematic. Having recently been on board the 52.3-metre Perini Navi ketch<a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/821" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Squall52.34m (171'9&quot;)">&nbsp;Squall</a> where Paola was immediately taken aback by the high-quality of her Rémi Tessier designed interior, that, as they say, was that. It had to be Tessier. Tessier, however, was much more focused on residential design projects in Miami at the time, and having recently welcomed his fourth child into the world, was less than enthusiastic about the prospect of working on a new yacht on the opposite side of the world.&nbsp;So he answered a gentle ‘no’ to Dubois’ request. But, as a testament to the wonderfully Italian, persuasively charming lady that is Paola Trifirò, she would not take no for an answer. “I called him,” she smiles. “It was lucky for me that I speak French quite well as a second language. I convinced him to come to Milano, just for a short meeting. When he arrived, dressed all in white and looking every bit the handsome man, he started admiring our ultra-modern penthouse in the heart of the city, close to the Duomo. He stepped in, looked around and said, ‘Okay. I think we can work together.’ He sat down at the table and said, ‘Tell me what you want.’ One week later he sent us a design. For the first time in my life, I had nothing to say! He understood everything we wanted. I am not an easy lady at times, but we had such respect for each other. He is the best.” The perseverance for perfection paid off, and Zefira went on to win a number of awards upon completion in 2010, including Sailing Yacht of the Year 2011 and Best Sailing Yacht 45m+ at the World Superyacht Awards 2011.&nbsp;<img src="/uploads/store/photo/35589/image/large-1f4a570d0b8ce86950c01c3b6c5ee296.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/35589">The collaboration with Tessier continued onto the next new build sailing superyacht for the Trifirò’s, their current 32.6-metre Vitters-built <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/5917" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Ribelle32.64m (107'1&quot;)">Ribelle</a>, completed last year. This time the Trifirò’s opted for a smaller yacht and, enlisting the help of Malcolm McKeon for her naval architecture and exterior design, managed to create another winning vessel with the awarding of Best Interior Design - Sailing Yachts in the BI International Design &amp; Innovation Awards.&nbsp;Looking at Ribelle’s interior, it’s certainly not difficult to see why she is a worthy winner, with a level of comfort, luxury and style that is unfortunately not often synonymous with sailing yachts. Paola agrees: “We have a very quick, ultra modern, all-carbon and titanium racing boat with a fantastic, luxury interior. By luxury, I am not referring to the shiny, expensive things on board. I’m referring to the big loves of life, what you want on the boat to ensure the best life experience onboard. It’s very ‘luxury’ to be surrounded only by the things that you love, to have the space, the light that we do. I did the layout with Malcolm, incorporating all the smart naval architecture tricks to get the very best result. He is a great designer - he always listens and never tries to impose ideas that are not suited to that specific owner. His suggestions, experience and competence are absolute.”<img src="/uploads/store/photo/35437/image/large-730f6cee9e57fa03113d6f91397d0e56.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/35437"><img src="/uploads/store/photo/12888/image/large-2b89fcd856dc15dc1422fd97328a1a77.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/12888">Did you ever consider building a motor yacht, I ask? “Well, the dispute between sailing and motor yacht owners is long and without an end. As far as I’m concerned, since I had the honour to be called as a Judge in the BI World Superyacht Awards since 2011, I was presented with the task of visiting many boats, the majority of them motorboats. So I started getting to know them better, and I must admit that many are splendid creatures, unbelievably perfect machines with many possibilities to enjoy life, starting from the elegance of the interiors, to the magnificent swimming pools, to the cinema saloons. But let me say, sailing for us ‘addicts’ is also about experiencing the taste of the sea, to glide on the water, and just to listen to the wind and the swish of the sail. It is a totally different way of yachting.”<img src="/uploads/store/photo/35417/image/large-9b9840006081896eaf81f943de278d87.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/35417">Demonstrating their fierce passion for the sailing way of life, as soon as Ribelle was ready to go the Trifirò’s took her on three back-to-back regattas. The aim? To show the world that it is indeed possible to create a performance-orientated sailing yacht that is beautifully designed both inside and out. “In 2017, the first year for Ribelle, we won the Rolex Cup in Porto Cervo,” Paola tells me proudly, “so we proved our idea of a very fast boat with a fantastic interior which looks like a luxury superyacht but is, in reality, a racing boat. People may think she is severe because she is a racing boat, but she is not only so. I am a passionate sailor, and I love to have the best interior on what many consider a severe vessel. The most beautiful thing is to stay on your boat and love every second, breathing in the sea life. It doesn’t have to be such a contrast between the performance boats and luxury boats, and that is very important to me.”&nbsp;With Ribelle still relatively new to the Trifirò’ fleet, what’s the next project for Paola and Salvatore? Despite that fierce loyalty to sailing, the ultimate dream is the rebuild of a 1930s classic yacht. “I have a dream to find a narrow, sleek motorboat of the 30s, and to refit it perfectly. The 1930s was a period of yachting I very much admire, so I would love to refit it and take it around the Mediterranean. Perhaps I am glamorising the idea, thinking of a movie style cruise around the Med on this glorious classic yacht, but I would really enjoy that refit process. One of my favourite things to do with boats is to think about the every aspect of the construction of my dream.” If Paola’s previous dreams are anything to go by, this could certainly be one to watch out for in the future.&nbsp;<img src="/uploads/store/photo/35436/image/large-099b1fd1102eeaabe2d40515c53f0b5e.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/35436">Paola Trifirò on...BUYING VS CHARTERThis is another long dispute between yachties. We have friends who think that a boat - sailing or motor, doesn’t matter - is complex and difficult to run… not to mention expensive. So they feel happy to charter a yacht, the size and the type they prefer, in the part of the world they like. They say to me: ‘what can be better?’ Of course, the boat owners feel their boat as a creature, whom to dedicate time and passion into as they do with their home. They like to cross the seas among their own familiar objects, pointing their prow where they want and when they want and feeling at home. It is another taste, they say. For me, that is worth the investment.&nbsp;BUILDING IN NEW ZEALANDThe distance was an issue, but of course I knew I would have to travel far and accepted that. My husband only came once at the beginning, and another time at the end. I went down every month! It was a long way, but I had a nice flight with Emirates and a lady friend who came with me from time to time to help with the hard times. It was a great experience.&nbsp;<img src="/uploads/store/photo/23560/image/large-cb4b92eeb7ccfa1407fdc6f996979967.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/23560">I’m so sorry for the condition of the New Zealand shipbuilding industry today. I hope that the America’s Cup will give New Zealand a boost, because the quality of the work is just fantastic. The people there are just as high a quality. They are so open-minded. They were looking at me at first like I was from another world, but after two days, everybody knew me and I made a lot of friends. Competent and serious people, fantastic land, full of blue agapanthus flowers and thousands of rainbows. I miss them a lot!&nbsp;FAVOURITE CRUISING GROUNDS We’ve sailed all over the world, and it would be reductive to name favourites. Every moment is special onboard. Of course something like cruising in Baja California in May when the whales have their small little calves is more impressive than navigating between Corsica and Sardinia, but I do love both! Sailing is a big occasion of knowledge and emotions.&nbsp;<img src="/uploads/store/photo/30823/image/large-7238e480d179f5ab2e595392bf3fa910.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/30823">There are spots in which I was particularly delighted with the people I met - like in Alaska, where I had a fantastic, very interesting afternoon meeting people who were astonished we could have decided to leave sunny Italy to head to Alaska’s cold waters! Also when we were cruising just off Fiji, we were invited for tea with the village chief. These are very special moments for &nbsp;us when sailing, moments when we feel immensely proud to be sailors.

The winners of Boat International Media's World Superyacht Awards 2018 have been revealed. Now in their 13th year, these awards celebrate the ingenuity and innovation which is demanded by the design, engineering and construction of the world’s finest superyachts.&nbsp;<img src="/uploads/store/photo/35396/image/large-4c2cc25bd028e6aec6c3cf7b4c53a1d8.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/35396">This year, two new categories were added, Support Vessels and Sail-Assisted Motor Yachts, in order to reflect the ever-changing nature of the superyacht industry. The Awards are judged by a committee of superyacht owners and thus represent the only peer-reviewed yachting awards in the world.&nbsp;There were a total of 68 nominations making up this year’s highly competitive class, with a total of 18 Neptune awards received by the winners. Yesterday was the third day of racing at the world’s most prestigious regatta in St Barths as the 23-strong superyacht fleet set off on a 22-25 nm course littered with several natural turning marks on the western side of the Caribbean island. Sailing in a separate fleet, yesterday was also the fourth of five races for the J Class sailors. Racing action from St Barths Bucket 2018 Day 3

Super sailing yachts in St Lucia

2017 has been a good year in terms of large sailing yacht launches with 16 sailing superyachts taking to the water over the last 12 months. The super sailing yachts of 2017

Following six days of exhilarating racing action out on the water in the picturesque setting of the Porto Cervo, the 23rd edition of the Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup and the Rolex Maxi 72 World Championships was full of surprises.

Jointly organised by the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda - which celebrates its 50th anniversary this year - and the International Maxi Association (IMA), with support from their historic sponsor, Rolex, the first day presented the seven classes competing with numerous challenges, including winds of almost double those forecast, 15+ knots rather than eight, facing the course down the length of ‘Bomb Alley’ to the Island of Spargi and back.

This favoured the smaller boats competing, with a highly stressful start for the larger, glamorous sailing yachts. Excelling in these unexpected conditions was the first-time winner of the Wally Class, Toni Cacace on Magic Blue. In the Super Maxis, International Maxi Association member Filip Balcaen ended the race assuming his Baltic 112 Nilaya had scored a deep result and missed out on the top prize. Much to his surprise, she won ahead of Salvatore Trifiro's new 32.6-metre long Malcolm McKeon design, Ribelle.

These tricky conditions continued on the second day, with racing being cancelled in both the Maxi 72s and the Wallys due to the wind turning through 180° halfway down the run. Although the news was better for the Super Maxi, Mini and Mini Maxi classes, unexpected gusts of 18-19 knots resulted in the three Mini Maxi classes having their course shortened.

The larger classes struggled on through the wind, leading to disgruntlement among the Super Maxis, where the new 32.5-metre Malcolm McKeon-designed Ribelle claimed the class mainly by avoiding a hole, in which Nilaya and WinWin were stuck. The winds subsided on the penultimate day of racing, with Costa Smeralda serving up near perfect conditions and northwesterly winds peaking in the mid-teens.

The surprise winner of the day was Alex Schaerer’s Swiss Maxi 72, Caol Ila R. Although the boat led from start to finish, their lead was tenuous at times. Cannonball was just 14 seconds behind during the race and her two points lower IRC rating translated into victory for her by a mere four seconds, prompting whoops of joy from the Cannonball crew.

Drama continued between the Wallycentos, where the Wally 107 of International Maxi Association President Thomas Bscher, Open Season, got stuck in traffic, enabling Galateia and Magic Carpet to close, and Galateia to win by a mere 12 seconds,

On the final day, it was Germany’s Dieter Schön and the crew of Momo who were the crowned the overall winners of the 2017 Rolex Maxi 72 World Championship. Going into the last day of racing, Momo held a 2.75 point lead over Dario Ferrari’s Cannonball.

Following two exhilarating windward-leeward races, she won by a point, with the top four Maxi 72s all finishing within two points. At the prizegiving ceremony, Momo was awarded the 2017 Maxi 72 Overall trophy.

Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup full of surprises

The Palma Superyacht Cup 2017 came to an end in style this past weekend as the annual four-day event closed with its customary prize giving ceremony where the 32.5-metre Bolero was awarded as overall winner after three races.

This year’s fleet included a number of Superyacht Cup regulars such as Saudade and WinWin, as well as some new faces such as the carbon racer Ribelle, built by Vitters. although the Frers-designed Bolero put up a solid performance it was no mean feat to fight off the chasing 27.5-metres Atalante 1 and the 39-metres Atalante, both built by Hoek and built by Claasen.

Over the course of the regatta, yacht owners and race crew enjoyed the Pendennis Paddleboard Challenge as well as the lively happy-hours sponsored by North Sails and Southern Spars which continued long after the day's winners had been announced. Highlights this year also included the annual SYC Dock Party and the Owners' Mid-Summer BBQ at the stunning St. Regis Mardavall Mallorca.

Saudade's tactician and Volvo Ocean Race veteran, Bouwe Bekking commented on the regatta by saying: "It's a really relaxed regatta. After racing there's a very nice ambiance on the dock, the atmosphere is really laid-back and everyone has a really good time."

Bolero victorious at Palma’s Superyacht Cup 2017

Vitters Shipyard transported its brand new full-carbon sailing yacht Ribelle from its shipyard that is located in Zwartsluis in the Netherlands. The composite outer shell of Project 3705 was built by Green Marine in the U.K.

With an overall length of 32.5 metres, Ribelle is the second Vitters superyacht to have been designed by Malcolm McKeon Yacht Design, after the delivery of Missy in 2016. Her interior is the work of Rémi Tessier, better known for his contemporary motor yacht interiors.

Details about the yacht are scarce but from first appearances, it would seem that she is set to become another fast cruiser once she has her mast stepped and ready for sea trials over the coming weeks.
