She was delivered in 2010 and has a stance of 33.6-metres. <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/151" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Southern Wind (Company)">Southern Wind</a> worked closely with <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/153" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Nauta Yachts S.r.l. (Company)">Nauta Design</a> to craft both her interior and exterior design, and entrusted <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/152" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Farr Yacht Design (Company)">Farr Yacht Design</a> to pen her naval architecture, sail plan and appendages.Her sale was concluded by <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/4439" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Dolphin Yachts S.L. (Company)">Dolphin Yachts S.L.</a> and Jeremy Peek from <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/5582" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Southern Wind (Brokerage) (Company)">Southern Wind</a> who represented the seller, and with Jamie Small from <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/159" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Burgess (Company)">Burgess</a> at the other side of the table standing in for the buyer. The South African sailing yacht dances on the water, thanks to her agility and ease of manoeuvring. The saloon itself is full-beam and provides guests with heaps of space to socialise, thanks to the large seating area to port and dining table to starboard. &nbsp;When her sail is furled, <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/2326" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Thalima33.6m (110'3&quot;)Southern Wind2010">Thalima</a> derives power from a <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/1483" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Cummins Inc. She was sold directly in an off market deal, with the buyer gaining consultation and advice from Will Bishop from <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/6312" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Superyacht Partners (Company)">Superyacht Partners</a>. &nbsp;She was launched in 2014 and has proven to be the ideal cruising yacht thanks to her abundance of deck space and four stateroom arrangement. The Southern Wind 110 RS Thalima in Antigua

Harry Macklowe’s Unfurled and Irvine Laidlaw’s Highland Fling XI have been crowned the winners of the Loro Piana Superyacht Regatta 2011 in Porto Cervo. With strong winds forcing the final race day to be cancelled, Unfurled’s 1st and 2nd places from previous days earned victory in the Cruising Division by one point from Kora 5 of Portofino, with Hasso Plattner’s Baltic 147 Visione in 3rd overall.<img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/135432/image/large-b393d861c3755fd2f61fadd1ab439f1f.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/135432">The strong winds that prevailed for the week suited the ultra-light planing hull of Irvine Laidlaw’s Highland Fling XI. The Reichel-Pugh 82 scored two 1st places to win convincingly ahead of Andrea Recordati’s Wally 101 Indio, with Pier Luigi Loro Piana’s My Song in 3rd overall.<img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/135433/image/large-95a38d99ebf1619f516e2e48e4d805b9.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/135433">Principal Race Officer Peter Craig was sad not to be able to stage a final race for the 27 yachts, but it would have been a tough and dangerous day on the Costa Smeralda. ‘We were seeing all the forecast models predict 30 knots plus in the afternoon,’ he said.<img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/135434/image/large-12b6df361f42dc1bd4c3c3fdd624fdc3.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/135434">In the afternoon the prize giving at the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda brought the regatta to a close, with the wind still blowing hard but the sun beaming down on hundreds of sailors and guests. In addition to winning the Performance Division, Highland Fling’s corrected time calculations under IRC, across all races in both divisions gave Lord Laidlaw the Loro Piana Prize Overall, the Silver Jubilee Cup by Boat International Media.Highland Fling won further awards for the top classified YCCS Member and the top classified member of the International Maxi Association.Lord Laidlaw said his greatest pleasure this week was: ‘Sailing with a great team who just didn’t make a mistake, and being part of that team. People are working hard all the time, and it all goes so smoothly. I love coming to Porto Cervo, we have a home here. We’ve been coming since 1982 and will continue coming here until I kick up the soil. I love the weather and I love the wind.’ Other prizes went to Southern Wind’s 33.6 metre flagship yacht Thalima as the best classified Southern Wind yacht, and to Salvatore Trifiro’s 50 metre Zefira as the best classified vessel from the Fitzroy Yachts shipyard. Ed Bosarge’s spectacular 56 metre ketch, Marie was presented with a beautifully framed, hand crafted light chart of the Bonifacio Strait by Latitude Kinsale for best representing the Spirit of the Regatta. The yacht sails with a grand piano below decks (sometimes played during racing), a full suit of armour, and a cannon which is fired every time Marie goes to sea.YCCS Commodore Riccardo Bonadeo was understandably proud of the event’s success: ‘Despite difficult weather conditions this has been a great event. The racing was great as was the social side and the collaboration with Loro Piana and Boat International Media is a winning one, as shown by this spectacular fleet. I have never seen such a fleet of superyachts gathered together in the Mediterranean before. The SW 110 RS is the new flag ship of Southern Wind Shipyard. Once again, the boatyard appointed Farr Yacht Design for the design of the hull lines, appendages and sail plan for generous interior volumes and high performance. Nauta Design came up with the general concept, interior design and exterior styling and, in terms of sophistication and attention to details, the 110' represents a breath of fresh air. <img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/131952/image/large-302aa13a76152b00e03ad5b63ea1b699.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/131952">Attention to build technology and quality, on the other hand, is the responsibility of the shipyard. The lamination department constructed the hull and deck using the infusion method on a female moulds and advanced composite materials (hull: Kevlar/Corecell/carbon fibre/epoxy resin; deck: carbon fibre, Klegcell, epoxy resin). <img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/131953/image/large-481e7e349c9b0c6b1442e024e4bb3ebf.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/131953">     <img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/131954/image/large-545b56b31a83d3ef7691bed587c09ef1.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/131954">For the first time in the case of the SW 110, the Research &amp; Development office decided to build the hull in three longitudinal sections rather than two split down the center line. This innovative solution is more accurate and efficient for two main reasons. <img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/131955/image/large-9807eae3d00f7ea8862fdfbe38c4ce68.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/131955">Firstly, it is easier for the staff to move around the moulds and position the fibres and sandwich core. Secondly, the resin has less distance to “climb”, which leads to a more even distribution. The need to make the structure as light as possibile has also meant that many of the furniture units have been built with a honeycomb core. <img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/131956/image/large-5e42ecfabb8538db2c1d212cf39c34bf.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/131956">     <img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/131957/image/large-d6b4dd10f9ef420d580d76deb33378d9.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/131957">Like numerous other Southern Wind yachts, the new SW 110 RS was designed and commissioned for circumnavigating the globe without compromising on performance. The VPP (Velocity Prediction Program) developed by Farr Yacht Design indicates good performance in all wind conditions. For example, with a true wind speed of 8 knots and apparent wind angle of 34.2°, a boat speed of 10.83 knots is predicted. <img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/131958/image/large-86731fd4ededa009777f71424595f8e2.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/131958">The open transom (which houses the tender garage) and the uncluttered deck with its captive winches below deck and recessed main traveller, combine with the raised coachroof to provide a sleek yet sporty look. The SW 110 is also equipped with PTO functions (Power Take Off), which permit the use of several hydraulic functions at the same time. Superyacht of the Week: Southern Wind's 33.6 metre S/Y Thalima

At the end of last month the Cape Town based shipyard Southern Wind launched their new flagship, the SW 110 RS Thalima. The superyacht is built for an experienced owner who for the third time has entrusted the same team, Southern Wind, Farr Yacht Design and Nauta Design, to build his latest superyacht. <img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/130178/image/large-37d0d9c80e15fc98d048dc6effdf60e2.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/130178">Farr Yacht Design was responsible for the hull lines and sail plan, while the interior and exterior were styled by the team of Nauta Design. <img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/130179/image/large-6459b95f9ba48c11852083056045441b.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/130179"><a href="#managed-by-application" data-legacy="true" data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/2326">Thalima</a> features a traditional lay-out, as found on the smaller Southern Wind sailing yachts. The crew quarters, galley and two twin guest cabins are situated in the stern, amidships there is the saloon, dining area and VIP cabin, and the owner’s cabin with private study, walk-in wardrobe and bathroom is situated forward. The saloon features a seating area to port, dining area to starboard and moving forward, taking the stairs down there is second seating area with a large TV. <img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/130180/image/large-bfe92b377ab252a4215f252918bbd501.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/130180">The interior styling is typical of Nauta Design’s flair for innovative solutions that provide clean lines and luminous spaces that are also warm and welcoming.
