Her sophisticated interiors accommodate 12 guests in 6 staterooms including an owner’s suite complete with an office on the main deck forward, a VIP suite on the bridge deck and four further guest suites on the lower deck. The <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/284" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="CBI Navi (Company)">CBI Navi&nbsp;</a>41-metre superyacht <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/1497" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Sophie Blue41.0m (134'6&quot;)CBI Navi1998">Sophie Blue</a> sold in the Netherlands in an in-house deal by yacht brokerage firm&nbsp;<a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/1317" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Yachtzoo (Company)">Yachtzoo</a>. <img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/189236/image/large-a8fe805abaa8e3b273acc09b65581e0a.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/189236">The superyacht was launched in 1998 and has been on the market for a number of years. Can you say a few words about your vision for the company?&nbsp;There are two big gaps in the market which we are committed to plugging: the first is to align high-end performance with the ever-tightening expectations on efficiency; whereas the second is to reinvent the very idea of customisation in the more traditional flybridge market.This commitment to performance yachts is driven by the <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/1205" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="AB Yachts (Company)">AB Yachts</a> arm of the <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/6468" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Next Yacht Group (Company)">NEXT Group</a>. With the combined resources and experience from the unification, we will deliver the sportiest yachts on the market, which also comply with the new and rolling Co2 regulations. We will be pioneers in the world of high speeds and high efficiency, upholding our vision to be “better than the best”.In the more traditional flybridge market, we want to reinvent the very meaning of customisation - something we’ve already achieved with the <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/536" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Maiora (Company)">Maiora</a> 30. Customisation has saturated the market for all the wrong reasons, it’s become an “abusive term” that refers to a freedom of expression over décor and design. The <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/536" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Maiora (Company)">Maiora</a> 30 is the most liveable boat on the market in terms of space and embodies our commitment to customisation - in its true form, that is! We are providing our clients with the freedom to curate their yachts truly to their needs. And the <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/536" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Maiora (Company)">Maiora</a> 30 is just the starting point.Next year we will wed customisation with the efficiency of the newly designed <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/536" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Maiora (Company)">Maiora</a> 35 Exuma. She is a modern interpretation of the <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/536" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Maiora (Company)">Maiora</a> line and is styled with crisp exterior lines. The <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/536" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Maiora (Company)">Maiora</a> 35 Exuma is also the first to be equipped with water propulsion. We’ll be presenting her in Miami next year. <img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/20684/image/large-0676cef98e1bd892a1901eb3d6abf498.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/20684">The last few years have witnessed a lot of shuffling up top. Can you maybe talk us through some of this and the impact and influence it has had on the&nbsp;<a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/6468" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Next Yacht Group (Company)">NEXT Yacht Group</a>?&nbsp;Between 2018-2019 <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/374" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Sanlorenzo (Company)">Sanlorenzo</a> bought into the company and took charge of some of the key areas of our boatyards. This investment tempered our strength and quickly prompted schematics to be penned out for new facilities. Last year we started on a new outfitting facility in Massa, Italy, and we are now looking to expand our capacity in Viareggio - the investment through <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/374" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Sanlorenzo (Company)">Sanlorenzo</a> is making all this possible.&nbsp;There was also the big take up of shares last year by GB Invest Holding AB who now holds the lion’s share of ownership with a 60 percent holding. GB Invest Holding AB is heavily invested in hotel proprietorship and wants to experiment with the possibilities of infusing two worlds: hospitality and yachting. The holding company is heavily involved and takes an active role in product planning and development. We are taking their focus on hospitality and tailoring it to the needs of a different type of consumer.How are you looking to grow as a company? Are you gearing more toward an increase of output, or are you turning your head to any new market segments?&nbsp;We don’t want to be a mass production manufacturing company, that’s for certain. The long and short of this is that it would distract us from meeting our customer’s expectations. The right size for this company is to always be producing less than 20 units per year.&nbsp;We will continue to deliver the range that we already have. But we are also tooling up to dominate the passion segment of agility and speed. There are plenty of clients who are eager to always one knot more, and we are interested in finding the solutions to meet these desires. In essence, we want to deliver the aquatic counterpart to the luxury automotive marques that deliver 0-60mph in under three seconds without compromising on class.&nbsp;At the moment we are working on nine different yachts, seven of which will hit the markets upon completion. In this offering are 3 <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/1205" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="AB Yachts (Company)">AB</a> 100s &nbsp;which have a power delivery of 59 knots. <img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/20615/image/large-0dcb500ff7f1ceb29931d150295ad695.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/20615">Finally, could you say a few words about the job itself?&nbsp;It has been a nice new adventure for me, and I’m surrounded by an excellent team. Finding himself today in the quintessentially Dutch city of Haarlem, Israeli-born Jaron Ginton has taken the scenic route into superyacht naval architecture and exterior design. Serving five years as an officer in the Israeli navy before becoming charter captain of a 24-metre schooner and a 20-metre motorboat and travelling across the ocean to the Caribbean on a wooden sailing boat with his now-wife, “It was only at the age of 29 that I started to study naval architecture and then went into business with my partner, Ferri Weber,” Ginton explains. “After 11 years, in 2002, we split and I formed&nbsp;<a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/285" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Ginton Naval Architects (Company)">Ginton Naval Architects</a>.”<img src="/uploads/store/photo/113496/image/large-83008deb50f8381d6845d1d5a5ffd4ab.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/113496">With such a varied path to yacht design, here Jaron takes SuperYacht Times through the six steps to his superyacht design success.&nbsp;1. My 11 years and 50,000 sea miles of active sea experience have significantly affected the look and function of my designs. As a user of a boat, you know what is required with things like the anchor arrangement and the chain locker - both things are annoying if they are not well designed! We also design to comply with the classification society and try not to go beyond that too much, but, for example, when it comes to the anchor, we often use heavier anchors than are recommended from classification as from personal experience, I know how important it is. Another example is the wetness of the forward deck: those things you cannot study: you have to do it by feeling and there is no instruction manual on how to create a dry bow or a wet bow. There is nothing compared to practical experience. You do it by feeling. <img src="/uploads/store/photo/17101/image/large-d60e0fee10b407d71fb83cb889f4bf22.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/17101">2. There were a few milestones that helped me along the way. One of them was the 48-metre motor yacht called <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/1512" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Elsa48.35m (158'8&quot;)Scheepswerf Peter Sijperda2004">Elsa</a> (previously named Grace), but unfortunately she was a total loss on the rocks in Saba. They were not at anchor, they were on a sinker which apparently was too light for them. Actually, the owner of this boat told me when we started: there is no budget, I don’t want stabilisers but I want a comfortable boat and so we played with the beam until the boat was just about compliant with the rules for cargo ships because at the time, she was registered as a cargo ship. The owner told me that after years of chartering in Norway, he never once missed the stabilisers. It all went very well until he wanted to sell the boat, as no one wanted a boat without stabilisers and to add them at that late stage was a difficult task, but eventually he did sell her. It’s unfortunate how it ended. <img src="/uploads/store/photo/16031/image/large-fe4ee191dd38124d54b40a91ebb5f312.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/16031">A second milestone was the 2006 <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/323" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Metsuyan IV36.2m (118'9&quot;)CBI Navi2006">Metsuyan IV</a> - a 36-metre we did with <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/284" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="CBI Navi (Company)">CBI Navi</a> - this was an exceptionally nice project. Once these milestones were completed, we went on to do six projects in Moscow by <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/442" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Timmerman Yachts (Company)">Timmerman Yachts</a> and another six boats in Ukraine. Later we did many boats in Turkey and are still very busy there, as well as in Holland, mainly with <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/2948" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Van der Valk Shipyard (Company)">Van der Valk</a> and with <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/293" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Mulder Shipyard (Company)">Mulder</a>, and workboats with de Haas Maasluis.&nbsp;<img src="/uploads/store/photo/68362/image/large-cc989b558a19264f1219de4a127487a6.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/68362">3. About half of our work is what we have designed ourselves. The other half we get from styling designers like <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/234" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Guido de Groot Design (Company)">Guido de Groot</a>, <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/43" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Cor D. Rover Design (Company)">Cor de Rover</a> and others. Shipyards make up 50% of our client-base such as <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/752" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Mengi-Yay (Company)">Mengi Yay</a>, who we work very harmoniously with and with whom we have completed nine boats since 2009. The very first boat with them was the successful 41-metre motor yacht <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/4585" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="My Steel41.0m (134'6&quot;)Mengi-Yay2011">My Steel</a> and a repeat order immediately followed. The latest was the 44m <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/6838" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Tatiana V43.7m (143'4&quot;)Mengi-Yay2019">Virtus</a> which was launched last year and has already been sold. With <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/293" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Mulder Shipyard (Company)">Mulder</a> shipyard we did the naval architecture for 13 boats, including the 30-metre A Squared as well as the 22-metre Fairwind, and followed with six boats with the same hull over the years. <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/2948" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Van der Valk Shipyard (Company)">Van Der Valk</a> shipyard has assigned us for the naval architecture of eight yachts including the 37-metre <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/5022" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Santa Maria T36.8m (120'9&quot;)Van der Valk Shipyard2015">Santa Maria T</a> and the fast boat series called ‘Beachclub.’ <img src="/uploads/store/photo/103996/image/large-6be9cec5fa11d12d6d745116d1155664.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/103996"><img src="/uploads/store/photo/104004/image/large-4710a139e8bb2d865caab827a5319b89.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/104004">4.&nbsp;We don’t tend to experiment with new hull shapes and we are reserved with adopting new trends without recognising the side effects. For example, when it started to become fashionable to adopt a straight bow, we recognised the advantages of the longer waterline and more space at the bow, however, this also has two drawbacks. One is that the anchor chain may touch the stem when swinging on anchor and the other is the wetness of the bow deck. Whilst the anchor is a drawback one should just accept, the wetness of the deck could be improved scientifically by adding a pronounced spray rail above the waterline, and obviously, having a high bow also contributes. <img src="/uploads/store/photo/22743/image/large-7986dda2c894f1e161a324c212b6080c.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/22743">5. The 31.2-metre <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/5398" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="CCN - Pisa (Company)">CCN</a> boat <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/7194" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Vanadis31.2m (102'4&quot;)Cerri Cantieri Navali (CCN)2019">Vanadis</a> was the first time we did a hybrid with a pod drive on board. We needed to facilitate the space in the engine room for the electrical system and so we created one small generator room at the bow and one engine room at the stern. One big advantage of this setup is that you don’t need to put the accommodation at the point of the bow but it starts a few metres behind the collision bulkhead where the boat is much wider. The pod drive has its own advantages compared to a conventional propeller, as the propellor is directed to the stream, whereas with the conventional propellor you have a shaft angle which is not the natural position in relation to the stream, so you have less vibration and higher efficiency as a consequence. With <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/7194" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Vanadis31.2m (102'4&quot;)Cerri Cantieri Navali (CCN)2019">Vanadis</a>, we were the winners of the Boat International Design &amp; Innovation ‘Eco Award‘ this year. <img src="/uploads/store/photo/111696/image/large-9dfa866de2816c3d01b975bb0dc6ee93.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/111696"><img src="/uploads/store/photo/111702/image/large-d6c1ac6ed9d145b3c3925122ecb895ed.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/111702">6. I think it is impossible to predict the future of the industry, but taking into account what’s happening for us now, it looks positive. Under construction we have a 42-metre sloop with <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/752" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Mengi-Yay (Company)">Mengi Yay</a>, which is very much our style. Also, the 41-metre M55 at <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/191" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Yildiz Shipyard (Company)">Yildiz Shipyard</a> will be launched this year alongside the 43-metre <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/7070" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Sunrise 43.06m (141'3&quot;)Yildiz Shipyard2019">Sunrise</a>, which was delivered to her owner at the end of December. In the Netherlands, we are involved in an extension of a large yacht and we are also refitting a 50-metre Russian/East German fish factory boat called Kaspryba built in 1992 in East Germany which will become a geological research vessel. The process is very similar when working on both a yacht and a commercial vessel. That said, we do not identify too much with supersonic boats and styling is not our major activity. Superyacht designer Umberto Fossati hails from the vibrant northern Italian city of Turin. In this former royal capital of Italy, firmly rooted past traditions blend with the dynamism of industry, creating a unique cosmopolitan metropolis. Spending most of his spare time in the antique and interior design family business located in this same city, the young Fossati soon developed a taste for fine arts and antique furniture which would inform his future career, with a particular interest in pieces which have a history to tell.<img src="/uploads/store/photo/83299/image/large-149b2692574dd2b1eba42c3389411f0a.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/83299">After sharpening his eye for detail through his architectural and interior design studies at the universities of Turin and Milan respectively, Fossati cut his teeth designing luxury interiors for Italian studios before working at two yacht builders in Viareggio to complete his education.&nbsp;Following his shipyard experiences, Fossati decided to start his own firm, beginning with a superyacht interior design project developed directly for the owner of the 55-metre <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/2496" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Galileo G55.2m (181'1&quot;)Perini Navi2011">Galileo G</a> built by <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/350" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Picchiotti (Company)">Picchiotti.</a> Since then, Fossati has developed an impressive design portfolio, including the 39.67-metre <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/284" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="CBI Navi (Company)">CBI Navi</a>-built <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/5931" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Stella di Mare39.67m (130'2&quot;)CBI Navi2018">Stella di Mare&nbsp;</a>which was delivered last summer. Catching a breath at this year’s Versilia Yachting Rendezvous, SYT finds out what’s next for this distinctively Italian designer. <img src="/uploads/store/photo/83300/image/large-aaf393da9a78dc9cc7cf5e43dc006993.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/83300"><img src="/uploads/store/photo/80774/image/large-7e15f4c2e230fa83b6106e1e7161f14f.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/80774">First off, talk me through the inspiration behind the interior design of the&nbsp;Maiora 30m&nbsp;which is <a href="https://www.superyachttimes.com/yacht-news/first-look-at-maiora-30-yacht">under construction</a> and will be delivered this summer.&nbsp;As with all of our projects, we always start from a blank piece of paper and an empty mind. Our immediate focus is on the person who will have to spend his time on board, understanding how he lives, what his habits are, how he dresses and so on.&nbsp;After the first meeting with the owner, we immediately asked him for some images that would represent him: not of yachts, but pictures of his house and so on and created a mood board from this. We finalised the windows in collaboration with the shipyard and created the interior architecture which was a re-interpretation of 1970s period style. The interior design is full of details that, at the first view, do not take up too much attention, with a colour connection between them: lacquered wood, leather, oak wood - always with the same nuance and using thin and elegant brass inlays.<img src="/uploads/store/photo/80773/image/large-9fa68e0c98dbfddb54ea0d9d176f1979.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/80773"><img src="/uploads/store/photo/80772/image/large-d85199cee96277c02ba454d1551f6ae1.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/80772">The client has an international background which helped us to motivate him towards a more contemporary and fresh style, never losing the elegance, but losing the feeling of heaviness which can be present in some designs. As an example, the only glossy finishing we have on board is found on the lateral ceilings in all of the areas close to the windows with reflections coming in from the exterior scenery.&nbsp; <img src="/uploads/store/photo/81622/image/large-9f15b4029c5585b0f94485b63cbdf38d.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/81622"> What was your relationship with the owner like on this project? We met for the first time during the last <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Event/13" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Monaco Yacht Show - 2018">Monaco Yacht Show&nbsp;</a>on board <a href="https://sya.superyachttimes.com/news#managed-by-system">Stella di Mare&nbsp;</a>(our most recently-delivered interior project built by <a href="https://sya.superyachttimes.com/news#managed-by-system">CBI Navi)</a> and talked about his vision for this project. We immediately feel comfortable with each other and it was his first boat that he ordered. We do not meet many times during the project development or construction due to his busy schedule working all around around the world, but we were always in touch by phone or email and easily understood each other even when issues arose. Our way of working has definitely flowed well.<img src="/uploads/store/photo/80767/image/large-03d3deff397078c493c2fa38d980cb3a.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/80767">What are some of the trends you have noticed in superyacht design?&nbsp;The superyacht design world is full of trends and these always change much more slowly than in the automotive or residential building world (with which we are also fully involved as a studio). Yacht concepts and designs often follow the trends of car design for the exteriors and residential trends for the furniture and interiors.&nbsp;One trend is to take out as much natural wood as possible from the onboard bulkhead covering, opting for leather, 3D coverings and so on. The thought behind it is to create not a yacht interior but something as close as possible to a villa or apartment. Nowadays, in general, the owners are younger, more international and confident about living all around the world. The knowledge they have about the yacht design world is deeper than in past years. It is not enough to give them something showy. They are looking for something easier and lighter, with less maintenance and that can be enjoyed in a short time with less preparation and difficulties. <img src="/uploads/store/photo/80769/image/large-85a97ee3c34c956b1dcb9f1c1fbb328a.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/80769">In addition, there is definitely a loss of formalism which is resulting in the onboard spaces changing. Superyacht interiors are no longer closed off or separated from the exterior spaces in order to achieve privacy but are fully transparent, making it possible to connect all of the interior and exterior spaces. Today it is a must to have full windows, an extendible balcony and so on. We have already seen some superyacht projects with these concepts: transparent bulkheads, open galley to the dining or saloons, the wheelhouse opened to the foyer and so on.Connectivity and continuity of view are some of the top priorities now. In the interior division, owners do not want to have double areas which have the same principal uses as this is lost space. In the residential world, bathrooms and galleys used to be areas which you would hide, but now, as in yachting, these are areas which are shown to guests with pride.<img src="/uploads/store/photo/80768/image/large-4104e54b22b2a7e45f61356af3575896.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/80768"> What has been the most memorable project you have worked on and why? One project where we definitely didn’t follow fashion in the design was<a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/2496" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Galileo G55.2m (181'1&quot;)Perini Navi2011">&nbsp;Galileo G&nbsp;</a>(built by <a href="https://sya.superyachttimes.com/news#managed-by-system">Picchiotti</a>/<a href="https://sya.superyachttimes.com/news#managed-by-system">Perini Nav</a>i) where we were involved directly by the owner, Silvio Scaglia. He comes from a sailing yacht background and he asked us to develop a ‘gentleman’s yacht’ interior to be both aesthetically and functionally comfortable during his plan to <a href="https://www.superyachttimes.com/yacht-news/the-road-less-travelled-galileo-g" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="">cross the world by sea.</a> The amazing exterior design is by <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/53" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Philippe Briand Ltd. (Company)">Philippe Briand</a> and follows the same elegance that the client wanted for his interior.<img src="/uploads/store/photo/77656/image/large-4a5908c35ef2306b186aef379fde4d1d.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/77656">We developed the interior with mahogany using semi-matte finishing, an all-around bulkhead, and gave a contemporary touch to the ceiling which was striped in slats. The foundation of the project was based on the past experiences of the sea which clients had enjoyed before and that we wanted to bring on board. It was less a design project, but more like a coordinated effort, taking into account his itinerary, from which the interior design styling began.<img src="/uploads/store/photo/77653/image/large-cb34e8c15d97c0c3a0628e3874b90531.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/77653"><img src="/uploads/store/photo/77650/image/large-cf084e40d35ba991f889d964aa849bd5.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/77650">Name some of your favourite materials to work with as an interior designer&nbsp; We love to use natural materials which are characterised by imperfection. It is this which makes them alive. We always start from these materials and then we develop the concept through inlays and details. For example, we love using stones instead of marble exactly for that reason because they are cut and cleaned but and not polished.<img src="/uploads/store/photo/50728/image/large-c93522720e39a694ae203226574b4cf4.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/50728">The finishing we opt for in general is matte or semi-matte, leaving some glossy touches to enlighten some details or inlays, but in general, we always connect materials and finishing together with gradient scale for a soft effect and avoid any dramatic effects. A clear example of this strategy is our project&nbsp;<a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/5931" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Stella di Mare39.67m (130'2&quot;)CBI Navi2018">Stella di Mare&nbsp;</a>that has absolutely nothing shiny or glossy on board. Years ago, it was all about materials and branding. We can see now that the name is not enough and materials are no longer the basis behind luxury. Today clients are looking for the real “tailor-made” finish, the real “bespoke” which is seen as a unique piece with no possibility to be replicated. Clients prefer the certainty of quality than the name of the brand.&nbsp;Custom products also give the possibility to personalize everything, from materials, finishing, design but also on space management. We already know that about 70% of the materials we use are eco-friendly, being natural materials and not synthetic but is difficult to obtain a full result for the background work we have in our varnishing and painting and so on. Eco-aware and luxurious: behind the drawing board with Umberto Fossati 

At just under 40 metres overall and 430GT, <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/5931" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Stella di Mare39.67m (130'2&quot;)">Stella di Mare</a> was among the smaller custom superyachts at the Monaco Yacht Show. But small can be beautiful and a tour on board soon revealed her true vocation as a steel and aluminium passagemaker designed to the exacting requirements of her experienced Italian owners.<img src="/uploads/store/photo/50717/image/large-c8e01bbdc218f8e7e96dc4407d128852.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/50717"><img src="/uploads/store/photo/50719/image/large-568b0f04f5a8cb6b51b0cd6fe32f772b.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/50719">"Our intention was to create a connection between three family generations, starting from the first of 75 years old to the last of 7 years old," says the senior owner’s son.&nbsp;“We wanted a yacht of substance and real value, not just a fashion statement or status symbol.”<img src="/uploads/store/photo/50721/image/large-8d95dde31b1af45f244829e93f541598.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/50721">The family had previously owned a Darwin 96’ (Cantiere delle Marche), but as they spend up to four months on board each year they wanted more interior volume and storage space, not least because next year they are planning a trip to the Arctic Circle. This required a rugged yet comfortable, long-range explorer adapted to colder climates and able to be autonomous for weeks at a time. <img src="/uploads/store/photo/50764/image/large-6a2d60c2d463e128b070743a55082242.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/50764"><img src="/uploads/store/photo/50798/image/large-682cb68be2c717b068978c37cf6bd9db.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/50798">&nbsp;They approached HydroTec for the naval architecture and exterior design, and Fossati Design Bureau for the interior styling. Construction began at Mondomarine in Savona in early 2015, but when the shipyard ran into financial difficulties last year the project was relocated to CBI Navi in Viareggio for completion. <img src="/uploads/store/photo/50815/image/large-df9a68543c9129c8ab63d4a020652731.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/50815"><img src="/uploads/store/photo/50773/image/large-ebad72a2935e5c3d8fec7acf157743b3.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/50773">Like her purposeful exterior styling, the interior design is classical and low-key yet also fresh and tastefully Italian. The principal wood is warm walnut, cut variously to expose the flame pattern and densely striped grain, and tinted cherry with wenge inserts for the flooring. Walnut tends to darken over time and this was taken into account when specifying the soft furnishings and accessories. <img src="/uploads/store/photo/50770/image/large-4337ab38b90e82adbf44cfba56bd196c.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/50770"><img src="/uploads/store/photo/50766/image/large-818f1da3fe405e9eb3f853948ac01064.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/50766">All the veneers are satin finished and the only metal detailing is a hint of brushed bronze to complement the dark-wood joinery and custom-tinted leather from Royal Leather. Instead of marble for the wet surfaces in the bathrooms and dayheads, the owners chose a laminated porcelain stoneware called Kerlite.<img src="/uploads/store/photo/50804/image/large-ae056f875086a629a55950b53dbb991b.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/50804"><img src="/uploads/store/photo/50801/image/large-f74e66cc9228165288b155a0aded4649.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/50801">Although certified for 12 passengers,<a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/5931" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Stella di Mare39.67m (130'2&quot;)">&nbsp;Stella di Mare</a> can carry 14 guests in a master suite on the forward main deck and four cabins on the lower deck. Pullman beds provide the extra berths in the twin cabins, including a children’s cabin with bunk beds that is playfully decorated with their favourite cartoon characters. <img src="/uploads/store/photo/50792/image/large-549869ae6c704d75768debd489cc4cf0.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/50792"><img src="/uploads/store/photo/50780/image/large-ecbce224cd062e271d49ff3103efae16.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/50780"><img src="/uploads/store/photo/50775/image/large-2c68e8d66e4714e6b3159ea33dfbdfb5.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/50775">The bulkhead behind the dining table, custom designed by Umberto Fossati in wenge and brushed bronze, features an enormous circular map of the world by Bellerby &amp; Co, artisan creators of hand-painted maps and globes. A large globe by the same London-based company is a standout feature in the sky lounge. Antique Venetian prints from the owners’ private collection appear elsewhere on the yacht. &nbsp;<img src="/uploads/store/photo/50819/image/large-391b641c3590e94e8fb3d489d5147856.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/50819"><img src="/uploads/store/photo/50817/image/large-5dd903383c25da5ec0b67258b288a534.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/50817"><img src="/uploads/store/photo/50768/image/large-feb107b6b877541f09fd5fd7cc493f20.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/50768">Unusually, the owners favoured manual lighting controls instead of a domotic system (though the wiring and rack space for full automation has been designed into the boat). Refreshingly, there are also just three TVs on board: one in the owner’s suite, one in the crew mess, and a giant curved screen in the sky lounge that serves as a chill-out space/media room for all the family. &nbsp;<img src="/uploads/store/photo/50753/image/large-23ad9807e682e7f7086b9b8fc7f5ea7e.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/50753">The practical wheelhouse, elegantly clad in marine blue leather, has a dedicated chart/radio corner and is surprisingly spacious for the size of yacht, as is the captain’s cabin fitted out to the same standard as the guest areas. <img src="/uploads/store/photo/50760/image/large-d205fe90b7f22023ebefaa63d551d7e9.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/50760"><img src="/uploads/store/photo/50759/image/large-4987081d624e82657a6833c50ed8204d.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/50759">The galley is equipped with pro-spec equipment and features an adjoining breakfast corner that the owners use for informal meals. There are high-capacity fridge/freezers both in the galley itself and on the under-lower deck (another rarity on a 40-metre yacht), along with a refrigerated garbage store and wine racks for up to 800 bottles. <img src="/uploads/store/photo/50761/image/large-7ed14991b4abc9331578e0d6394e3786.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/50761">Just as important for long-range cruising is the fully ventilated laundry on the forward lower deck, which is roomy enough to take an ironing board without occupying the crew corridor.&nbsp;Shaded exterior dining is provided on all the deck levels, including the fly deck that has a well-equipped galley unit with BBQ behind the helm station. A couple of exercise machines are tucked under the radar roof and a skylight set into the deck illuminates the main stairwell below. <img src="/uploads/store/photo/50746/image/large-a3a72d6c1f4e1798ea7be4cc29b7e791.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/50746"><img src="/uploads/store/photo/50740/image/large-92b452d65f76061e686c59e3dd1fe7df.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/50740">Keen to make use of all the usable exterior space, a specific request of the owners was the small observation deck perched in front of the radar arch. On the foredeck is a large sunbathing area above the rescue tender garage and a cosy seating area that has been kept safely separate from the mooring station in the bow. <img src="/uploads/store/photo/50736/image/large-225a9c7a2e6b60ef5cdc21cfbb511063.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/50736"><img src="/uploads/store/photo/50737/image/large-e1183cfa4fe9a4c459c4360264968cb5.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/50737">The guest tender, custom-built to echo the styling of the mother ship, is stowed on the upper aft deck (with a central crane so it can be launched from either side). This frees up space for a large lazarette on the lower deck to house a variety of water toys such as a Laser, Optimist and paddleboards.<img src="/uploads/store/photo/50735/image/large-f9d89159a08bc1e42d25f76530624617.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/50735">The round bilge hull with a bulbous bow was CFD-optimised and tank tested to focus on fuel economy. But she also proved the designers had fulfilled her owners’ brief in more telling ways: “When the family disembarked they told me they felt completely at home as if they had owned the yacht for years,”&nbsp;says interior designer Umberto Fossati.&nbsp;“And they’re already talking about their next yacht!”

Italian shipyard CBI Navi has announced the successfully delivery of the 39.6-metre explorer yacht Stella di Mare to her new owners in Viareggio. Following her delivery, <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/5931" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Stella di Mare39.67m (130'2&quot;)">Stella di Mare</a> set off on a summer cruise with her European owners. <img src="/uploads/store/photo/44453/image/large-82c431d60370d55067705d7f621efa1e.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/44453">Built to a RINA class, <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/5931" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Stella di Mare39.67m (130'2&quot;)">Stella di Mare</a> exterior design and naval architecture were developed by Hydro Tec. Featuring a traditional silhouette, with a full displacement steel hull and a bulbous bow which is usual for a long-range explorer vessel, her experienced owner’s input into the project were implemented into her full custom design. <img src="/uploads/store/photo/44456/image/large-46f7c9c1693fa7c8d6c0f0994a34d4e2.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/44456">Her interior design, commissioned by the owner, is by Fossati Design Bureau and incorporates high-end materials such as walnut, cherry wood, beige leather and brushed bronze. The owner’s suite, complete with an ensue bathroom and dressing room is also located on the main deck, tight with the main lobby and gallery. Delivered: the 40m explorer yacht Stella di Mare

Italian yard CBI Navi has announced the launch of the explorer Stella di Mare. Known by the project name of CBN45, the 39.6-metre custom vessel has been built for a European client. The project was originally contracted by Mondomarine in early 2015, however, when the shipyard ran into trouble, the project was moved in August 2017 to Viareggio for completion at the CNI Navi yard.<img src="/uploads/store/photo/39269/image/large-59b2b996010fb193a6fe356b7099e2af.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/39269">Stella di Mare&nbsp;has been built to RINA class and features exterior design by Hydro Tec who have given a contemporary feeling to a classic silhouette, with a full displacement steel hull and a bulbous bow typical for a long-range explorer vessel. The interior design is by Fossati Design Bureau, as commissioned by the owner, with her 430 GT volume spread out between generous interior spaces for the private use of her new family.&nbsp;<img src="/uploads/store/photo/39270/image/large-146078841d6b70f1e43b084d819b9178.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/39270"> Thanks to her beam of 8.6-metres, the interior spaces have ample space to accommodate 14 guests across four generous staterooms situated on the lower deck, with a crew of eight also housed on board. 36-metre superyacht Metsuyan IV lying in Kotor, Montenegro

The 36-metre Metsuyan IV was built by Italian shipyard CBI Navi in 2006. The popular charter yacht is a regular sight across the Eastern Mediterranean and is seen here moored in the beautiful port of Kotor in Montenegro. Her exterior design and naval architecture is by Ginton Naval Architecture with a classic interior by Ken Freivokh.

The 51-metre CBI Navi superyacht Alibi, listed for sale through Rupert Nelson at Burgess, has been sold. Axel Douqué of Ocean Independence represented the buyer. Alibi, currently lying in Imperia, was listed at an asking price of €13,500,000.

Alibi was built by CBI Navi in 2005 to a design of Luca Dini Design and Studio Scanu. Luca Dini Design was also involved with the interior design which was created in co-operation with Giorgio Radice. The luxury yacht comfortably accommodates 12 guests in six staterooms; one master, four doubles and one twin.
