Confined to bed, he discovered yacht walkthroughs online and was captivated by the lifestyle they portrayed. It was not his first brush with ownership though, as decades earlier he had tried his hand with a 35-foot sportfisher, but after a storm sank the vessel he and his wife spent the next forty years content with charters. Following her passing after 47 years of marriage, the allure of life afloat returned with new force. “It seemed like the perfect escape,” he said. “A way to live comfortably, see the world from the water and do it all on my terms.”<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/378422/image/large-c419fe6d311b476faefc8ab314b79111.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/378422">That vision spurred him to call brokers from his bed. An initial interest in a 27.43-metre <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/517" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Cheoy Lee (Company)">Choey Lee</a> soon gave way to the <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/613" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Lazzara Yachts (Company)">Lazzara</a> Skylounge <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/13898" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Dare to Dream24.38m (79'12&quot;)Lazzara Yachts2000">Dare to Dream</a>. “It felt expansive and open, like a floating apartment,” Cohen explained. “It was important to me to have room to breathe and to share that space with friends and family.”Launched in 2000, <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/13898" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Dare to Dream24.38m (79'12&quot;)Lazzara Yachts2000">Dare to Dream</a> had been meticulously upgraded by her previous owner, who invested more than $2 million into a comprehensive refit. “Every detail had been selected with care. It was a stroke of luck to find&nbsp;“Inside, I filled the yacht with Asian antiques and contemporary art I’d been collecting for fifty years, with pieces I never had room to display at home.” His enthusiasm is palpable as he describes the Tang Dynasty sancai-glazed horses, the jade sculptures and the Ming Dynasty ceramics that now grace the yacht’s elegant interiors.The artefacts span dynasties and cultures, from a Tang Dynasty green-glazed poetry pillow to a Qing Dynasty celadon double dragon bottle. Among the most striking pieces are a Tang Tri-Color Glazed Pottery figure and a Qing Dynasty turquoise green amphora, each evoking the grandeur of China’s imperial past.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/378421/image/large-496b5929ea025c75f52e9fe61bd7945b.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/378421">Beyond Chinese artefacts, Cohen has incorporated treasures from across Asia including a gilt bronze Buddha from Thailand’s Ayutthaya period, Southeast Asian bronze fragmentary heads and a selection of Satsuma ware from Japan’s Meiji period, renowned for its intricate gold gilding and vibrant enamel work.Cohen’s passion for art has long been a defining feature of <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/13898" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Dare to Dream24.38m (79'12&quot;)Lazzara Yachts2000">Dare to Dream</a>, but a recent buying spree has transformed the yacht into what he affectionately calls his ‘floating museum’. “I promised myself I’d stop buying art before my colonoscopy,” he joked, “yet the moment they handed me my phone, vulnerability set in and I closed what I thought would be a modest deal. It became my largest purchase to date.”Now a Pierre-Auguste Renoir hangs beside his kinetic sculptures, a luminous Robert Henri greets visitors outside the master suite and a rare Picasso landscape is positioned opposite the day head between the galley and dining area. When a Marc Chagall’s Le Peintre Volant piece arrives, it will replace an Indian canvas beside the Dalí in the main saloon, while new Qing- and Tang-period pieces are scheduled to follow.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/378419/image/large-2dc70d3008631f1993f84caa2504d910.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/378419">Even with a world-class collection of antiques and fine art now onboard, Cohen adds there are practical challenges. “One thing I’ve learned is to always measure before buying a painting,” he said. “Yachts have so many windows and less wall space than an art collector would expect. Finding the right balance between displaying the works and keeping the interiors liveable is a constant puzzle, but the aim is for guests to wake up next to beauty and maybe learn something over breakfast.” <img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/378418/image/large-f01356d7780cb6f2f8b9790de5f63162.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/378418">Cohen estimates he has invested over $400,000, exclusive of art, in refits and new gadgetry, alongside routine technical upgrades. The result is a yacht that feels new, luxurious and personal, a curated reflection of Cohen’s eclectic interests.Yet, he is quick to point out that the yacht is not just a solitary retreat. “The crew is like family,” he said warmly. He believes in treating crew and marina staff with respect. “Take care of your crew and they’ll take care of you. At every marina, I give dock hands $20, or $100 for heavy lifting. Both the captain and I keep cash for this, it pays off in service.”<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/378420/image/large-98441fc71e9c46c7e24a8ad4e40b2dff.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/378420">The freedom of yachting has also introduced Cohen to a new chapter in his personal life. Encouraged by his sons to re-enter the dating world, he invited a potential partner to join him for a dinner cruise onboard. “She was a little unsure about meeting a stranger from another state,” he recalled. “But the evening proved magical and we’ve been together ever since.” Cohen also takes joy in sharing the yacht with family. Although he remains open to occasional charters for guests who will respect the art and antiques that make the yacht a floating museum, he is adamant that it is first and foremost his sanctuary.Underlying it all is a quiet urgency. After a past battle with cancer, Cohen admits the fear of recurrence spurs him on. “Collecting is an investment in joy and memory,” he says. “If a Renoir becomes available once in a lifetime, I’d rather seize the moment than regret hesitating.”<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/378423/image/large-66d422134aac67f3cf7addeb82d039e0.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/378423">“I don’t know if I’ll want to do this forever,” he mused. “But right now, it’s a perfect adventure, one that allows me to create my own world on the water.
